Almera 1.8s for me!
Advantages: A womans car for sure!
Disadvantages: None that I can find.
...Newmarket in it, in a hurry and with the cd player blasting out.
What a lovely car I thought, and today just over a year later I still think that about this car.
In 1914 the first cars were made in Japan, they have come a long way since then I can tell you.
So, lets look to see what my money got me!
It is black,
it is sleek,
it has a dog guard and space for two largish dogs in the back,
it seats five adults although the three in the back are more comfortable if they are fairly short. My six foot two inch daughter in law moans like heck when she has to sit in there but she does manage it.
To me it looks like a powerful car, I wanted this one to be a he but unfortunately after years of calling my cars she, I couldn't manage to change so a girl car for the girls (old ones) to drive.
It has a 1.8 fuel injected engine. This is...

All you need Tino about Nissan's people carrier
Advantages: Well equipped with precise steering and gear change
Disadvantages: So much body roll I felt seasick!
...Car: Nissan Almera Tino
For: Well equipped with precise steering and gear change
Against: So much body roll I felt seasick!
Value: Good levels of equipment as standard but it is a bit expensive when compared with the likes of the Scenic and the Tacuma.
Costs: Fuel economy is pretty good from the 1.8 which gives about 36mpg on a good day. Insurance and servicing costs are also quite reasonable
Reliability: It is a Nissan so nuf said really
Driving: This I where the car lets itself down quite badly. The steering is good and has lots of feel and the gearbox is slick too. However these are about the only good points that I can think of. When you try to accelerate hard there are two problems; first nothing happens and secondly the engine sounds as if someone has chucked a load of nuts and bolts into it. NOT GOOD! People carriers are not...

Audi A4 1.8SE Auto 4 Door
Advantages: Ride, Build Quality, Image, Looks, Equipment
Disadvantages: Rear Legroom, Running costs, Dull Handling
...Here's my first ever review (again - sorry for posting it in the wrong section before!)
I've had my 1998 Audi A4 1.8SE Auto 4 door for 4 months now and it still puts a smile on my face. Whether it's the solid 'thunk' of the doors closing, or the gorgeous tone of the superb 'Concert' stereo, the Audi continues to be a car I will never regret buying.
I purchased privately from a family who had cherished the car - it came in superb condition, with low mileage, and a full Audi service history. The light green (Jasper Green) really looks great when I've thrown the sponge on it, and the standard 16" alloys do a good job of setting the car off.
It's by no means a perfect car though. The rear legroom is really poor, and the boot openning isn't too clever either - I'd have had an Avant if I could have afforded one. The handling is...

Almera Go Go
Advantages: See op
Disadvantages: See op
...for dust.
Spec: –
2-litre 16v engine
ABS
All round disc brakes
Air Con
Sony CD / Tuner, with steering column controls
140 bhp, 135 mph top speed, 0 – 60 8 secs
Electric Windows and Mirrors
Height and Rake adjustment on steering wheel
Performance – This is obviously the key point of such a vehicle and the Almera is one of the most under-rated and unassuming cars in this area. The engine is extremely torquey and pulls superbly thorough all the gears. One problem especially in the wet is trying not to spin the wheels as you pull off. The car has wide fat tyres and hard sprung suspension so it seems to hold the road forever and a day. The exhaust note is quite an unassuming until you get above 4,000 rpm and then a great rasping quality comes thorough. The clutch and gears are surprisingly light...

Nissan Almera Tino SE 2.2 dci 136bhp 6speed
Advantages: Cheeper than most , powerfull engine , equipment levels
Disadvantages: Poor engine managment - not so frugal - wear and tear
...II have had my Tino for 12 months now and covered 42,000 miles thus able to share my mixed experiences.
Mine is the 2.2 DCI SE extras 136bhp with the 6 speed gearbox in metallic black. The Extra's models are a Limited Edition version having SVE equipment the leather seats but without the sat nav system and traction control.
Ride quality is good if a little harsh you do feel every other bump, body roll not that excessive but seems more when coming from a standard car.
The driving position is very good with clear visibility the power steering being nicely weighted and larger steering wheel all help, all controls are easily to hand however the climate control/ radio console is over complicated with I feel the LCD screen a distraction (although it can be turned off.
The 2.2 diesel unit is from the Renault Espace parts bin (Renault owns...

Standard Almera features with a bit more power...
Advantages: Driver comfort, general ease of driving
Disadvantages: A little cramped in the back if you have longer legs!
...As always, Nissan have appealed to the safety-conscious driver, but this engine size means that you feel a bit less staid. It's great knowing you can put your foot down and pull past traffic even though you're driving a car that is often thought of as a "woman's car".
There's plenty of space in the front for drivers (and passengers) with longer legs, although it can bit a little cramped in the back. However, the boot area is usefully large. This means that it probably appeals most to people with small children (with all the accompanying paraphernalia) or those that don't carry passengers too often.
The car hugs the road well (much like the micra), ensuring that you feel safe during rainy and icy conditions. It also retains that 'crouching' appearance that appeals to some people.
It's a very practical, sturdy car for people that...

Family Tardis
Advantages: Cubby-holes
Disadvantages: Sluggish
...The Nissan Almera Tino is a mini-people carrier variant of the Nissan Almera hatchback. We have had a Tino 1.8SE+ for 2 years (28,000 miles). Extras include satellite navigation and pearlescent paint.
On the outside the Tino is a more attractive beast than it's counterparts (the Scenic et al). On the inside it has been extremely well designed. When developing the Tino Nissan enlisted the assistance of the National Childbirth Trust here in the UK. Consequently, many child-friendly features have found their way into the car's interior. In particular, the rear seats are all individually removable. With the center rear seat removed, the two outer seats can be repositioned closer together and are variably slidable forwards or backwards. The two outer rear seats are also reclinable and foldable. All the rear seats are also mounted higher...

Hatchback without a bracket
Advantages: Loads of load space, very family friendly
Disadvantages: Does not fit in a specific bracket. Quite expensive
..., it looks very box-like and square.
From the back, it is again very square and appears much bigger than it really is.
Wheels/Tyres
------------
On a standard Almera, on first look I felt the tyres could just not cope with size of the car. They even look very skinny but are actually running on 185/65/15 tyres so it may be an optical illusion.
The 65 height of them ensures a soft ride for the passengers while the width gives a good grip on the road. The Wheels come in either Alloy or Standard Steel Wheels with Trims. For the extra £350, it may be worth the extra street credit to opt for Alloys. Almeras look exceptionally ugly with trims.
Engine.
-------
The 1.8 litre engine that sits under my Mums bonnet pumps out some good power for its size. Not the most powerful on the market, it is one of the cleanest burning and economical 1.8...

Toyota Avensis T4 Spirit Auto 1.8 saloon
Advantages: Great value for money, reliable, looks good, very safe car, loads of gizmos
Disadvantages: no rear wash/wipe, no MP3 dock, not brill on MPG, expensive parts
...the day - actually they seem to get dimmer at night when you put the headlights on. Hmm..
You can press the remote control thing twice and it double locks if you are outside the car (not if you are inside so the emergency services can get in more easily in a crash, apparently), child locks, and remote transponder key fob thingy.
The bad things are the road noise is quite bad on some surfaces and the ride can be less than smooth at times. It doesn't exactly roar away at the lights with having only a 1.8 engine. Mind my last car had a 3 litre engine so I did notice the difference. It has a turbo thingy which gives it a bit of welly when you overtake on a motorway.
It is a bit thirsty on the old petrol, being an automatic - it does about 25-30 MPG for me in town, about 35 if I'm on a motorway all tank, unless it's very uphill, when it...

Motor trade pundits get it WRONG.....(often!)
Advantages: Comfortably smooth, cost effectively elegant, superbly designed
Disadvantages: Poor economy, some naff dealers, not suited for the tall
...?!
To sum up, this car has changed our lives. My wife actually wants to drive now, her mum can get in and out very easily, and the kids are so much more comfortable and they can see out. It is the best family investment we have made.
There are some niggles though:-
1: The boot could have been slightly bigger/better laid out, in my opinion, but is ok for most applications.
2: There is no Glove compartment light
3: The boot "parcel shelf" doesn't fit perfectly, by design fault, but most other components/fixtures fit snug.
We would all recommend an Almera Tino to anyone, who is looking to change up/down to a small MPV. Buy this motor! You will not regret it, nor will your pocket,
(that is, unless you want a diesel - but they cost much more to buy and maintainance costs are higher, and the fuel savings would probably take about...
