Nissan Primera GT

Advantages: Cheap, Reliable, Spacious, Handlling, Well Spec'd
Disadvantages: Clutch, Driveshafts - wot to buy next !

...On my second Nissan Primera GT - 5dr. Very cheap to buy and run. Driven hard and still 34mpg - not bad for 2.0l engine with 150bhp. Sytling OK if kept clean. Interior has everything and easy to fit DIN MP3 head unit. Great space, comfortable and excellent ride. Handling good but longish wheelbase can mean a bit tail happy. Reliability superb - I service my own myself and easy to change fluids , plugs and filters. Chain drive so no cambelt replacement. Clutches can go around 100k but £220 to replace from Mr Clutch. NS drivershaft can snap (corrosion due to water trapped inside rubber balancer on shaft) - £250 to replace from Mr Clutch (get £50 cashback if you can give them and old 'non-snapped' shaft - they send back for reconditioning). Can be heavy on brake pads or is it me ? Lost 'feel' on brakes but Garage loosened up sliders...

Nissan Primera - a drivers car

Advantages: Reliable, comfortable, driving pleasure,

...Since my wife converted me from Vauxhall to Nissan circa 1993, I have never bought (or even considered) buying anything but a Nissan. I purchased my S-reg Nissan Primera 1.6GX A/C 5 door hatchback in Jan 2000 to replace my P-reg Almera, as I needed a bigger car having 2 young children. The car has proved to be extremely reliable and a through joy to drive. As part of the role (I work as an IT consultant), I often have to travel around the country. The company I work for provides hire cars rather than company cars so during my time, I have driven Peugeot 306 & 406, Rover 400, Vauxhall Astra & Vectra, Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Passat and the only one that I would say is a better driving experience is the Passat (although this had EXTREMELY light power steering). ...Let's get the obvious out of the way - if you are looking for charachter and good looks then look away now! But if like me you are appreciate vale for money, reliability, and practicality then keep reading! (In fact I won't waste your time commenting on the exterior looks - decide for yourself on that one!) That might be a little unfair on the 'Sport' model which tries hard to please with decent equipment levels, nice alloys, and full exterior colour coding. But if only Nissan didn't fill their cars with acres of tiresome grey plastics they seem to get from the same suppliers as the Korean manufacturers. I purchased my metallic blue Primera privately in 2005 for £3500 with a full MOT and just 45000 miles on the clock. Immediately you can start to see that it's a lot of metal for your money. The value doesn't stop with the purchase...

Nissan Primera 2.0 Sport

Advantages: Comfortable, safe car to drive with the power when needed.
Disadvantages: None spring to mind

...I purchased my Nissan Primera 2.0 Sport in March, it was 6 months old W plate and had done 3,045 miles. Since then I have covered 11,000 miles averaging 38.5 mpg at a reasonable 70 mph. The car drives and handles very well. We use it at weekends - once a month for a trip to Newcastle-upon-tyne, from Sittingbourne and once a month to Bournemouth. So we do a minimum of 1,500 miles per month. It is comfortable and has enough things to change (seat position for height, rake, steering wheel etc.)when we share driving without it becoming a pain. All switches etc. are easily reachable. Outlook from the car is good. It is a pleasure to drive. We chose Nissan because we had a Nissan Sunny Coupe which had done 200000 miles and was still going strong, with hardly any rust. It came with extras such as cd changer, alloy wheels. Advantages: Well built, reliable, onboard computer with satnav, parking camera, spacious

...I purchased my Primera in April 2006, production has now ceased for this particular model, so I was one of the last ones to buy from new. The Nissan Primera 1.8 SX is a Front Wheel Drive, Petrol hatchback it cost me just above £16,995. The extras I opted for were full privacy glass front to rear, and supaguard paint protection. The Primera has been awarded a four star NCAP crash test rating by the European New Car Assessment Programme out of a possible five stars. It comes fully kitted with all the necessary modcoms like sat nav with real-time traffic updates, rain sensors, rear view camera for parking, climate control, audio system with subwoofers, ISOFIX back seats and an onboard computer to tell you everything from current fuel consumption to how long you have been driving. 2002 Nissan Primera 2.2 SVE TD (Estate)

Advantages: High Spec / Large Boot / Reliability
Disadvantages: Averaging 40mpg for a Diesel!!!

...I bought my 2002 Nissan Primera SVE TD (Estate) back in September 2004 for £7995 with 45,000 miles on the clock. I've now had it a year, and covered 13,000 miles. During this time, the Primera has given me no trouble at all ... it has been a blissful years motoring ... however ... my only gripe about the Primera is that for a diesel engine, and despite having a light right foot, I can only manage around 40mpg. A tank of diesel is only lasting around 400 miles. Fair enough, the car is 143bhp but I expected to get more mpg. I don't do motorway miles so the 40mpg figure is on a combined run (country roads / dual carriageways etc.) The spec on this model is excellent ... some nice toys include:- Sat Nav, Full Electric Windows, Digital Climate Control, ABS, Power Steering, Electric Mirrors, CD Player, Driver and Passenger Air Bags...

Disadvantages: offensivley bland, dull interior, clutch steering quandry.

...the cabin itself is dull and not particulary touchy feely when it comes down to it. Uninspiring you'd have to say. Seats are just on the right side of comfortable but again they look as boring as everything else in here. The air con is ok, but is obviously a cheaper kind that needs to be gassed up regularly. The car has a remote control for a nissan anti theft system which locks alarms and immobilises the car, very handy indeed. On costs of running, it is very good with the petrol, the engine itself is a 16 valver that actually likes to be revved, but when it is, the noise it makes is so boring it almost matches the interior. Throttle response is good and the motor is pokey without being rapid. With regular driving i get about 35 mpg, which aint bad. To look at, the primera isn't art by anyone standards, in fact looking at one in green...

Nissan Primera 1.8S

...Having had a Nissan Bluebird (you remember the one - Jeremy Clarkson's favourite!) for some 10 years, its solid reliability and (for its age) comfort, made the search for a new car easy. It had to be reliable it had to be good value and it had to be family sized - enter the Primera! I bought the new look (1999 model) Primera 1.8S hatchback. The new 1.8i engine is powerful - especially where it counts in the 50-80 mpg range. For its size its economical too. So far reliability is excellent - but it is early days yet. The car will never appeal to true afficionados (don't bother Jeremy!) but if you are a mere member of the family man brigade, it has all you need.
