...a fan, I would say that Brazil is where Gilliam is given free reign, where his unique vision is allowed to graze the pastures of deranged whimsy and paddle in the murky waters of bureaucratic nightmare. The story revolves around a clerk, Sam Lowry, played by the excellent Johnathan Pryce, who works for the omnipotent Central Services, a sort of Big Brother/Civil Service/Dictatorship that rules a steampunk future of no personal freedom, where dreams are stifled and the system is never wrong. A clerical error (explained in a beautiful sequence where an insect falls into an automated filing system) causes the wrong (Henry Buttel instead of Henry Tuttle) man to be processed, and Pryce is opted by his spineless supervisor to try and clear up the mess before anyone notices. Review of Brazil (DVD)

Backpacking in Brazil

Advantages: breathtaking scenery, beautiful people, lots of fun....
Disadvantages: long, long bus journeys, quite expensive for a backpacker

...tropical island, with four long sandy beaches, a laid back atmosphere during the day and a fun atmosphere at night, typically Brazilian!. As we were there in May (essentially winter, but still very hot) we were able to get a beautiful pousada (guest house) for around $8 per night each with a massive breakfast thrown in too. We stayed here three weeks and then it was on to our last stop: Rio de Janeiro. Again we'd heard all the horror stories, but we stayed in a hostel in Copacobana, two streets from the beach and we had no problems. Rio has been described elsewhere, but suffice to say it is a beautiful, fun, vibrant city and I fell in love immediately. We followed our usual rules (no wandering around at night, no valuables on the beach etc) and had nothing but a warm reception from everyone we met. So, is Brazil dangerous? Yes, it has...

Paradise beach resort in Brazil

Advantages: Beautiful, charming, sophisticated beach resort

You can also buy chilled coconuts for a refreshing alcohol free drink. For the more active there is windsurfing, scuba-diving, trekking, fishing and many other water-sports. ...I was lucky and arrived just for the carnival where every ones is hyped up and exited, but this is Brazil for you. The weather is hot and every one is in a good mood, you put on your shades and you party day and night. I loved Brazil; I loved the food, beaches, city and the women. We got meet very nice people there and they were even nice enough to show us places where your average tourist will never find. Beautiful waterfalls, rainforest and exotic fruits were on menu everyday. This is a must for all adventure travellers....

Brazil Nut Hair MASK

...I first bought this hair mask when visiting my local Body Shop before going off on my travels to Turkey, where I knew the suns harmful rays would take their toll on my hair. The packaging was great. In general Body Shop packaging is not bland and boring as you expect it to be it is indeed minimalist but it appeals to the senses and has a great organic feel about it. And I love the organic look. It was a large round tub with a round sticker on top and of course the usual details onm stickers underneath the tub. According to the blurb on the back of the book this was originally self-published on the internet. The plot centres around (unsurprisingly) "The Book With No Name" - a book which if read leads to the death of the reader. I thought this sounded quite interesting but the mysterious book is not as central as you would assume from the premise. The other main plot focus is on the retrieval of a precious stone known as "The Eye of the Moon". This stone is rumoured to have magical powers and is guarded by a group of monks known as Hubals who live on an island. Nutty in the head, NO on the head!

Advantages: Moisturises and adds shine.
Disadvantages: Hair looks greasier more quickly after washing than usual.

I bought this hair mask as a birthday gift for someone but bought too much in general and changed what I am planning to give her (don't worry I am not depriving her) and decided to keep this for my poor tired looking hair. I have used a couple of hair masks before and some have been better than others. The last one I used (and bought several times but can no longer get) is The Strokes from Lush. I loved that mask and so didn't think I would end up being too pleased with this one. This comes in a nice big tub of 200ml, it has a screw top lid and the packaging is nothing special, but who cares about the exterior it is what is inside that I am interested in.
