...mentioned above Javier Bardem won an Academy Award for best supporting actor, this was highly deserved as I said earlier, as he played his part brilliantly, however it did not end here, No Country For Old Men won 3 more Academy Awards, they were; best director and best adapted screenplay for Joel and Ethan Coen and it also won the coveted best picture award, so if my review does not get you to watch this great film, then maybe that will! DVD Bonus Features Also included on the DVD are the usual extras you get, including a program entitled 'the making of no country for old men' this is very good and if you enjoy the film it is well worth watching. There is also a short program about working with the Coen's and a diary of a Country Sheriff, these two are ok and give a luittle bit of insight into the two subjects and are worth watching...

...No Country for Old Men There are no clean getaways!! I have been wanting to see this movie ever since the Oscars at the beginning of this year. This film won four Academy Awards including best picture so I was very interested to see what it was like. It is directed by the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan who are themselves 4 time academy award winners so I knew that it would be different and hopefully good. The film came out in 2007 and was actually adapted from the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy. The genre of this film is crime thriller. I would also say it is quite a physiological thriller as the drama was very nail biting, edge of your seat stuff. Disadvantages: Tries too hard, and so wastes valuable enjoyment, trying to say something deep

...The Coen brothers' NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN was released in 2007 to glowing reviews and a wealth of Oscar nominations, of which I never bothered to find out about, not being an advocate of the modern day Academy Awards; however, having watched the film and not the hype surrounding it I feel more than qualified to review the film. The story concerns a cowboy who one night while out hunting in the desert comes across some stranded jeeps full of drugs and guns, a whole host of dead men, one poor sod still barely alive, and, God dammit, a dead dog. No country for weary viewers

Advantages: Strong performances and lack of music supplies chills
Disadvantages: It drags and might leave you confused with a feeling that you've been had

...I can't believe all the hype that has surrounded this movie. "No Country" was a major disappointment for me. To be honest, I was looking forward to seeing this so much, as all the basic elements were there to make a great film, being a fan of stories about good versus evil, and having loved just about every Coen brother's effort until their most recent offerings such as the remake of Ladykillers. The first half of the film is pretty mindblowing, and the performances of Javier Bardem and most of the cast are very impressive. Bardem gives the best portrayal of pure unadulterated evil that I can recall since Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. He was well worth his oscar nod. Kelly MacDonald also puts on a very convincing Texan accent for the duratin. I've always had a soft spot for her since Trainspotting, so good to see her getting...

...had expected and as it moved along I felt quite disappointed. To me this never felt like it was going to end and when it got there, the person I was watching it with looked at me with the same look on their face, why did we sit through all this for and ending that seemed like the writers had lost focus and couldn't be bothered anymore so that was that. Chigurh ain't no sugar

Advantages: Superb acting, beautifully filmed
Disadvantages: Some will find it deeply depressing

...hyped up to the hilt like this one. More often than not, I'm disappointed because they don't live up to expectations. Finally, however, I succumbed to the draw of No Country for Old Men, simply because it sounds like exactly the sort of film I would enjoy. The fact that it is directed and written by the Coen brothers is neither here nor there for me - I have loved some of their films, particularly Fargo and The Big Lebowski, but hated others, such as Intolerable Cruelty and O Brother, Where Art Thou?
