...I knew from the outset that i would be one of those paranoid mum's constantly worrying about my baby & wondering if he was still breathing through the night, so I invested in the Angelcare monitor with movement sensor mat. The set includes a 'baby unit', 'parent unit' & movement sensor mat. The mat is placed under baby's mattress (if like mine, the base of the cot is slatted, or you're using it in such a moses basket, then you will need to place the mat on a firm surface such as a piece of plywood under the mattress), & is so sensitive that it can detect even the lightest of breathing. The mat connects to the baby unit which then transmits to the parent unit. If no movement (yes, even light breathing counts as movement) is detected for 20 seconds, an alarm sounds on both the baby & parent units, enabling time to get to your baby...

A Quality Monitor

Advantages: Many functions, clear sound, no interference, talk back
Disadvantages: Temp sensor maybe a bit sensitive

...for some reason the temp in our daughter's room was going from 23-24 degrees every few minutes, so we had this blue light flashing on constantly which really was quite irritating. I'm not sure if this can be turned off too. There is also a handy talk button on the side of the parent unit which works like a walkie talkie I suppose, allowing you to talk to your baby through the monitor instead of going up to their room. I'm not sure what my daughter would think if she heard my voice coming out of nowhere.... But I think it might soothe a younger baby to hear their parent's voice. It is also quite useful for talking to your partner if they are upstairs and you can't be bothered to go and find them!! Angel care baby monitor set my mind at rest!

Advantages: easy to use, flexible, gives peace of mind

...This product was a definite good purchase! I was quite overwhelmed with how much choice there was in the market as to which baby monitor to buy and I settled on this one as it sounded ideal. The product is a senor pad which detects tiny movements and will alarm after 20 seconds if there has been no movement so, for example, if your baby stopped breathing an alarm would go off after 20 seconds alerting you to this. The sensory pad is a flat square which you place underneath the cot mattress so it isn't bulky or uncomfortable for the baby to lie on. The pad is attached to the monitor which is really easy to use. Good cheap baby monitors (Tomy Walkabout Classic Advance Monitor)

Advantages: 100% portable, mains or battery powered, good solid units
Disadvantages: Can eat through batteries

...I read said the units had a constant interference and the range of them was terrible, I have had neither of these problems, you do get a low white noise type of sound coming from the parent unit but if you have the volume set low then you can hardly hear it & you get used to it, or do as I have and set it to the sound activation feature, the units are then silent until your child makes a noise. As for the range of these monitors I have also had no problems, I live in a three bedroom house and in a evening my little girl is in bed upstairs and I have the unit on downstairs whilst I watch TV and as yet I have had no problems with loosing connection. Only downside to these is they tend to go through batteries very quickly even if the power save mode is used, as yet I have not managed to get these to work from rechargeable batteries. I tend...

Monitor Your Baby

Advantages: peace of mind
Disadvantages: none

...and well worth the money paid. The monitor gives peace of mind as well as being a great way to monitor if your child wakes in the night or after a nap. It really enables you to get on with the other things that need doing in the house and not be tied to sitting with the baby. Of course checking in on the baby is still a must every now and again as there really is no substitute for human contact. This monitor however does everything you would really need from a monitor. The sound is clear and the volume loud enough to hear them snore. The price is very reasonable and I am very pleased I did not pay out as whole lot more money for a more hi-tech one as I feel this does the job perfectly....

...I recently bought the CD Wall Tiles CD Display System for £19.99 from online retailer iwantoneofthose.com. It was well packaged and arrived in perfect condition. What is the product? The complete package contains 9 plastic wall tiles in white or black, depending on the colour you order, 24 clear plastic clips to clip the tiles together in the pattern you desire, 9 plastic wall hooks, 36 rubber grips for keeping the CDs in the tiles and sticky pads to stick the tiles to the wall. The tiles are hollow so that you can put your CDs in to make a unique wall display using your favourite albums, or just ones you own that match the colour scheme of your room. Quality of the product I think the product is good quality in terms of the way it looks in your room, however I feel that the tiles themselves are somewhat flimsy...

...This was a very strange book and one that I picked up as I was intrigued by the title and the fact that the author was Anonymous. According to the blurb on the back of the book this was originally self-published on the internet. The plot centres around (unsurprisingly) "The Book With No Name" - a book which if read leads to the death of the reader. I thought this sounded quite interesting but the mysterious book is not as central as you would assume from the premise. The other main plot focus is on the retrieval of a precious stone known as "The Eye of the Moon". This stone is rumoured to have magical powers and is guarded by a group of monks known as Hubals who live on an island. No, no, NO Virginia!

Advantages: There really are a couple of stunning tracks and it is essentially the same Dolls sound
Disadvantages: You get the impression that many of the tracks are recycled versions of better songs...

...The Dresden Dolls are one of those amazing bands that are hard to categorize; not in the case of HIM where I lazily describe their genre as 'gothic' for the sake of it. The band from Boston, Ma are a bit different to all of that and instead of being gothic, the Dresden Dolls created their own genre for themselves, namely Brechtian punk cabaret.
