...Vacancy was a film I actually only saw a few months back, even though the film had been out for some time prior to this. Vacancy starts the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale, and Luke Wilson, brother of Owen Wilson. The film opened in April 2007; however it wasn't a smash hit horror film only ranking in as high as number 4. Plot: David and Amy fox, a married couple are driving back from a counselling session, when during the middle of the night their car breaks down in some random, unknown area, near the LA region. After a few minutes of arguing the couple decide that rather than staying in their car the whole night, they check into a local motel for the night, the comfort of a bed and somewhere warm soon takes over their minds. Advantages: Lovely Acting
Disadvantages: Typical Start

...Vacancy is a movie which has Luke Wilson and Kate Beckingsale as its main parts David and Amy. The film is supposed to be a horror/thriller, but when I first saw it advertised on the television I really could not take the time to go down to my local cinema and watch it, for the following reasons: - • There is a different horror movie realized every week and three quarters of them are pathetic and I don't enjoy. • Films come out on DVD so quickly that even if I wanted to watch it that much, it would be so much that I can't wait for its DVD release. • Kate Beckingsale is lovely and very beautiful, and Luke Wilson is one of my favourite actors (he and his brother Owen) but I couldn't personally see them pulling of the thriller story, especially not as a stage couple, don't ask, I just had a feeling! • The story...

Bon Vacances at Port Bourgenay

Advantages: Masses to do, something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Maybe a bit pricey in high season

Vacancy - a must see film for 2007

Advantages: Surprisingly good acting in different roles for Wilson & Beckinsale - suspense throughout
Disadvantages: Slightly cliched horror film but doesn't really have an effect on the film

...- when David complains to the hotel manager he is told it will be taken care of. Back in the room David finds some videos and puts them on, thinking they are cheaply made horror/slasher films, but before long realises the videos were filmed in the very room they are in, and are REAL murders of previous guests, and they're being watched. With camera's everywhere and the snuffer film makers closing in on them, it's a race against time to find a way out of the room before it's too late. OK yes, this is slightly cliched you might say. It does has a fair few standard traits you would find in the standard horror film. Of course they get off the interstate. Oh no the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. No Room at the Inn

Advantages: At least the main characters aren't nubile teens.
Disadvantages: The writing, direction and acting are all lazy.

...When their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, David and Amy are forced to spend the night in the kind of nasty old motel you thankfully don't see much anymore. The place is crawling with cockroaches, the tap water is brown and the sheets don't look like they've been changed since the 70s. With nothing else to do, David starts flicking through a pile of dusty video tapes he finds by the TV. They all appear to show a series of low budget stalk-and-slash video nasties. But they all have one thing in common - they all seem to have been shot in the room that David and Amy are currently staying in? "Vacancy" is one of those new back-to-basics horror films that dispenses with little things like plot and characterisation in favour of terrorising and torturing its characters. Advantages: Good, solid acting, interesting story, very atmospheric, not too gory,
Disadvantages: Some flaws in story, somewhat predictable

...help David, offering them a room and telling them that their the only people in the motel. They agree to take a room and while it looks pretty shabby, they start to settle down for the night. However, it isn't long before someone knocks on the door (there's no one there(!) and then bangs are heard on the side wall. David tries to shout through to the room next door to ask them to keep the noise down but there's no answer. This is, of course, particularly creepy considering they'd been told that their the only people in the motel at that time. So David decides to go back to the reception in a huff and demand that the receptionist/manager does something to make the room next door keep the noise down, so they can get a decent nights sleep. The Book With No Plot

Advantages: It's different...
Disadvantages: Not terribly cohesive, too many characters and sub-plots.

...This was a very strange book and one that I picked up as I was intrigued by the title and the fact that the author was Anonymous. According to the blurb on the back of the book this was originally self-published on the internet. The plot centres around (unsurprisingly) "The Book With No Name" - a book which if read leads to the death of the reader. I thought this sounded quite interesting but the mysterious book is not as central as you would assume from the premise. The other main plot focus is on the retrieval of a precious stone known as "The Eye of the Moon". This stone is rumoured to have magical powers and is guarded by a group of monks known as Hubals who live on an island. The book is set in Santa Mondega, a town that is a dangerous place to live and one that is conveniently forgotten about by the rest of the country. We are...

When speaking the manager they automatically take an instant disliking to him and his humour, however after not being able to getto a garage before morning they decide that it is either sleep in the cra in the middle of nowhere or stay in the motel. No, no, NO Virginia!

Advantages: There really are a couple of stunning tracks and it is essentially the same Dolls sound
Disadvantages: You get the impression that many of the tracks are recycled versions of better songs...

...The Dresden Dolls are one of those amazing bands that are hard to categorize; not in the case of HIM where I lazily describe their genre as 'gothic' for the sake of it. The band from Boston, Ma are a bit different to all of that and instead of being gothic, the Dresden Dolls created their own genre for themselves, namely Brechtian punk cabaret. No idea what it means but it looks good on a computer screen! Technically, lead singer, pianist and songwriter Amanda Palmer and drummer Brian Viglione aren't together as the Dresden Dolls anymore. Well at least for the moment.
