No One's Decision But Yours! (Working Mums vs. Stay at Home Mums)
Advantages: Wider horizons for mum and financial independence in working.
Disadvantages: Women can feel trapped at home.
...Staying at home or going to work as mums-this is probably one of the most difficult decisions many of us have to make, and there are no right answers. I want to talk about this from the perspective of a mum who has brought up two sons and two daughters, the youngest of whom is now 17.
In the 1950's this was never really the massive issue it has become today. Women in many cases just expected to be at home raising children, and of course caring for the home. The choices for child care were limited, and for many it was a dream to become a mum and a housewife. I remember vividly being a bridesmaid for my cousin when he married in the early 70s. His wife was thrilled by the thought of a future caring for a home and a family, she had been buying groceries weekly and storing them under her bed. I'll never forget her excitement when she pulled...

It Works for me....sometimes....!
Advantages: Cheap. Good for buying presents.
Disadvantages: Sell a lot of titles you've never heard of....
...The Works is a discount bookstore which can be found on many high streets. I have browsed around a fair few discount bookstores, but have always found this store to be the best in it?s class. Overall, I tend to find that a lot of discount bookstores sell a lot of uninteresting titles, & books you?ve never heard of. The Works does also fall into this category, but seems to also sell more bestsellers than other stores (often current ones at that), covering a wide range of authors. Books are laid out according to genre & are for the most part stacked on shelves with the cover facing forwards, so that you can see at a glance what titles are in stock. The more popular fiction & bestsellers are laid out on tables at the front of the store, with reference books & childrens books being on shelves running down the sides & back of the store...

All work and no pay...
Advantages: Flexible Hours, Comfortable Working Environment
Disadvantages: Needs a lot of self discipline
...the morning (as it often does) I want to be out by the sea enjoying life, instead of trudging off to work hoping the sun will still be shining at the end of the working day. I have seen too many dismally disappointing weekends to want to miss out on the good times mid-week.
But how in this day and age is such a lifestyle achievable? There is of course no easy answer (unless you still follow the lifestyle of the hippies of the sixties) - in this life it seems we only get out of it what we are prepared to put in.
Some years ago I spent a lot of time researching ways of earning money on the Internet. I have been in IT for 35 years and so had a good idea of what would, and more importantly, what wouldn't work.
My research included MLM schemes (multi-level marketing), Network Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Paid to Surf, Paid to Read (E...

Work It Out
Advantages: Cheap, random selection
Disadvantages: Random selection, rather hit and miss
...Student life requires budgeting, which often involves purchasing daily essentials in cheap pound shops or from chains like Morisons, Wilkinsons and the like. Unfortunately Oxford does not have many of these, The Works is about the only cheap shop there is ? though there are two or three of these (on in the Westgate Centre next to Sainsburys, one on Cornmarket Street and maybe one on the High Street). I don?t know how many branches there are nation wide; but I know there?s also a branch in Colchester, which is much the same.
What do they sell?
The Works is primarily a cheap book shop, but also sells stationery, art equipment and other bits and pieces from time to time. The books tend to be slightly obscure, but are often going cheap. There seem to be a lot of biographies of D-list celebrities, for example Ulrika?s Johnson?s ?Honest...

Working Girl
Advantages: Interesting and well thought out story
Disadvantages: A bit dated and lacked depth in descriptions of characters
...of the book:
A prostitute, Monica Purvis?s body is found in her London flat having been brutally murdered. Detective Chief Inspector Brock and his partner Dave Poole are called to investigate the crime. Initially they check with her co-workers and find she was a popular lady with seemingly few enemies.
On further investigation into her life, the detectives discover she was up to 18 months ago working at Heathrow Airport as a check in girl, but got fired because of her bad time keeping. Why had she turned to Prostitution? As she was by all accounts an intelligent and very capable young lady with no expensive habits.
Further enquiries discover an estranged husband who has recently been realised from prison after serving a three year sentence for armed robbery. Brock discovers that her co-worker at Heathrow Sylvia Moorcroft and boyfriend...

WORKS BUT COULD WORK HARDER
Advantages: Cheap books
Disadvantages: Can rarely find what you're looking for
...subject there is little in the way of specialised training to be found. She?s occasionally produced some very good work related to football techniques, golfing, swimming and other sports but these are never her main focus.

~ RE ~
The Works shows very little interest in cultural matters with religion being no exception.
The Bible can usually be found in her presence, both for adults and in picture versions suitable for children of various ages, but I believe her general lack of interest is merely a reflection of the general public?s demands. Whilst many still like to have a Bible available, few are interested in acquiring a deeper understanding of world religions.

Do you want 'The Works'?
Advantages: See text.
Disadvantages: See text.
...This review is on that good old British shop, known only to those of us who for some reason admit to going in there as The Works. It is one of those shops that you just like to either love and/ or hate, but sadly I hate it.
The Works is one of those shops that sells off all the old 'rejects' from other places, and they stock everything from books to music to craft things. They sell everything at stupidly low prices, just really for the simple reason that no-one will buy them otherwise. Take foro example an encyclopaedia of the Royal Family that would normally retail at £20 or more in one shop, but take it and put it in the works - and you are looking at probably £3 or £4 for exactly the same thing.
Although everything is placed in to different categories within the shop to make it supposedly easier for you to find what it is that...

Chanel No. 5 - eternal Femininity.
Advantages: sensual and feminine floral hart, good staying powder
Disadvantages: aldehydes - not everyone is used to this smell; can be found old-fashioned
...Chanel No. 5 will always remain a controversial perfume. Although used and praised for decades it's still a love or hate fragrance. I think it's because of aldehydes, the most important constituents of this fragrance. They possess a waxy, fatty smell that often makes think on washed and dried clothe. Aldehydes are found in nature (for example in a citrus peel), but never in amounts used in Chanel No. 5. That makes this smell a bit unnatural from one side, but it also gives an interesting exotic twist.
In my opinion EDP is much softer than EDT version - the aldehydes are less sharp and the floral bouquet is more prominent. On my skin it starts with a fresh citrus note that slightly fades into a floral hart of orange blossom, rose and jasmine. An ultimate feminine bouquet, but modernized with waxy sharpness of the aldehydes...

It Works for me!
Advantages: Lot of books to buy
Disadvantages: Lot of books to buy. Can get expensive!
...The Works. This is one of my favourite bookshops, as you are almost always sure of a bargain. Although every branch of The Works should be the same (and they all follow the same basic design, bearing in mind restrictions resulting from shape and size of premises, etc., all branches seem slightly different.
For example, the branch in New Street, Birmingham , is different from the branch in over New Street Station, which is different again from the branch in Shrewsbury, which, in turn, is different from the branch in Telford.
The idea behind The Works is a simple one Publishers think that new books only have a very limited shelf life. To this end they sell books on a sale or return basis. New books that are not sold through ordinary bookshops are sold through publisher's remainders bookshops such as The Works.
What books does...

Devil's Work
Advantages: Great suspense thriller
Disadvantages: Little obvious, no epilogue at all.
...Background:
I have read several novels written by Margaret Yorke over the past few years and enjoyed her style of writing. This is her 42nd book. Yorke is a respected and highly popular English writer. In 1999 she received the CWA Cartier Diamond Dagger Award for her outstanding contribution to literature.
I was looking for a book that I would find easy to read and difficult to put down. I'm glad to say in this book I found it.
The storyline:
Alan Parker has been made redundant from Briggs and Company (an engineering company) having worked there for 25 years. Alan now 50 years old, finds it impossible to tell his busy wife Daphne. So he maintains the pretence of going to work every morning and arriving home at the same time, so as not to upset or alarm her. In the meantime he is busy filling in job application forms...
