Toshiba TLP-S30 A Form Over Function Projector
Review of Toshiba TLP S30 by
taylora-2006
Advantages: Looks Great - Very Stylish, Compact & Very Light.
Disadvantages: Not Bright Enough At All
...The Toshiba TLP-S30 Projector
This projector is very aesthetically pleasing, it looks very modern and and the face of it looks to be a great projector.
There are several important factors to look at when considering buying a projector and that is the brightness. This projector boasts a 1400 lumen lamp. For those of you who aren't used to projector terminology, lumens are just a unit for the measure of how bright the bulb in a projector is (and lamp is just the correct term for a projector bulb) Now this isn't an amazing brightness, but the Sanyo PLC-SU20 (just as an example) works comfortably at 1200 lumens and around 1500 lumens is really what somebody new to projectors should probably be looking at.
So the brightness of this projector is good then you woul think. Well actually no; On paper the projector should perform very...

Philips Hopper SV20 A Function Over Form Projector
Review of Philips Hopper SV20 Impact by
taylora-2006
Advantages: Silent operation, good speaker, very well constructed.
Disadvantages: Heavy at 5kg, and very bulky.
...This really is a true function over form projector. I promised to review it in another projector review so here we are.
If you are looking for your first projector and are looking at the second hand market, then I very much doubt that this will be your first choice. It is big, bulky and heavy. And lets face it, it's not the most stylish projector in the world (though the picture of it here on ciao is quite good).
So why would you buy it then? Because this is a really solidly built, reliable projector. The lens for example has a nice big rubber edging around it. The lens on a projector is probably the second most fragile part of a projector (after the bulb), but it's one of the most commonly damaged. Having a protective edging around the lens means that should anything nock it, it is unlikely to damage it. Also the protective ring...

Infocus Lite Pro 425 Projector
Review of InFocus LP 425 by
richard_richard
Advantages: Reliable, good picture quality, easy to use
Disadvantages: Starting to show its age!
...The Infocus Lite Pro 425 is a LCD projector designed to display computer images onto a screen or wall. Its compact size shows that it has been built with portability in mind.
This projector was purchased about 3 years ago by the company I work for. The projector cost about £1400 and at the time and it was a pretty high specification machine.
The projector can display a maximum computer resolution of 800x600 and this is in 24bit colour. Although this is still acceptable, the resolution is perhaps a little low by today’s standards.
For those who are unsure of what an LCD projector does, here’s a brief explanation of what we use it for. The LCD projector is designed to be used with a laptop or desktop computer and is best used to display images onto a white screen. If you are familiar with overhead projectors, (like the ones most...

Sony VPL-CS1 A Projector Well Ahead Of It's Time
Review of Sony VPL CS1 by
taylora-2006
Advantages: 1280 x 1024 Maximum Resolution
Disadvantages: Not designed for ceiling mounting.
...This is a great projector overall. I recognise that this is a fairly old projector and pretty much outdated, but as I work with secondhand electronics, I am seeing this projector becoming more and more popular. If you are looking to buy one secondhand I wouldn't expect you to pay any more than £200 at most.
Please do not be put off by the fact that this projector has a brightness of 600 lumens. It is on par with projectors of around 1500 lumens. Infact, it is far better than most projector of double the brightness (1200 lumens) the projectors that come to mind are Toshiba's, but I'll review some of them later.
I think that this projector is popular for a couple of reasons. One is that it has a max resolution of 1280 X 1024 which is superior than most new projectors and certainly beats any projector in it's price range. The second...

Not the brightest but a reliable projector
Review of NEC MultiSync VT440 by
Plymyphil
Advantages: reliability, price, image quality
Disadvantages: none come to mind
...Thanks in advance for reading this review and for those who have read my recent reviews, I apologise for yet another data projector and promise I only have a couple of these reviews left to do!
First, a background about my use of the NEC VT440, a catchy name I’m sure you’ll agree. I teach in a primary school and we have a number of data projectors serving different purposes around the school. This was our projector of choice for our main hall and was purchased two years ago for marginally over £1000. It is still in service and has what I expect would be ranked as light usage. It is used daily during assemblies and occasionally booked for other activities as it displays onto a screen about eight feet by four feet. The duel data and video inputs on the side of the projector make it useful in a variety of situations within...

The ultimate in home entertainment
Review of Sony Cineza LCD Projector VPL-HS20 by
RahimC
Advantages: Quiet and flexible
Disadvantages: Not cheap
...About 6 months ago I came to the decision that I needed a large screen TV but I didn't want to lose a large percentage of the space in my lounge. That basically ruled out a CRT or rear projection and at the time I thought the only option was a plasma TV. As it happened I managed to visit a friend who had just purchased the VPL-HS10 Sony projector and I was completely blown away by the flexibility of the unit and amazing picture quality.
I was aware that Sony were soon to bring out a new version of this from scouring US forums so decided to bide my time. Eventually I went down to my local Sony centre when it was available and had a demo of the new HS20 model. After lots of questions and a demo I parted with my hard earned cash and took it home. As yet I’ve not mounted it anywhere and in fact it’s at an angle of about 20 degree...

Sony's Excellent Projector
Review of Sony VPL CX21 by
Surj1
Advantages: High Brightness, 3LCD Projection System, AIAS (Advanced Intelligent Auto Setup), Short Focal Length
Disadvantages: Abit Noisy
...The Sony VPL CX21 is a bright, slim, and stylish projector designed for mobile applications. A friend of mine has this and we always watch movies on it. The projector has many features which I've written about below with brief explanation of each feature:
- High Brightness of 2100 ANSI Lumens
The projector has three Sony 0.63-inch LCD panels and a latest designed 165 W lamp, it has a brightness of 2100 ANSI lumens, which provides amazing image quality even in very high ambient-light. The projector has a resolution of XGA (1024 x 768), this simply means fine display of even the smallest details.
- 3LCD Projection System
This is what the Sony projector is all about, it has a 3LCD projection system which means the projected images are bright and natural and for this to be achieved it has 3 LCD panels. It provides high light...

A Portable Device With A Great Display
Review of HP Digital Projector Mp3130 by
earningmoney
Advantages: Bright Clear display
Disadvantages: Quite Expensive, Not quiet
...The HP MP3130 digital light processing (DLP) projector differs from most others in the market as it sits vertically rather than horizontally. HP's reasoning behind this is that, if placed on a table, it will be able to rise above the coffee cups and notebooks.
Weighing less than 2kg, it's also extremely portable. Buttons and sockets are clearly labelled on the unit and it comes complete with a remote control. The remote feels a little delicate, especially when extended to it's full length, but it does include a handy laser pointer.
The DLP chip housed within the MP3130 consists of more than one million mirrors that reflect that reflect individual pixels onto the screen. This provides more control over the image when compared with LCD projectors, as well as being producing a brighter image. Indeed, with an impressive 1,800 Ansi...

Quality projector, features for the user
Review of Sanyo PLC XU48 by
gs.2003
Advantages: User friendly, Bright and good quality
Disadvantages: A recommended 3 metres from the screen or wall etc
...We have a few of these projectors at our company and I have to say they are one of the easiest digital projectors we have, has we have a selection of philips, epsons and mitsubishi projectors as well.
The main advantages with this projector is the quality and brightness of the image you get. It is clear at the front of the room and just as clear at the back of the room.
The zoom and focus controls are easy to use by anyone without knowledge of digital projectors, which is located at the front.
The menu features are set out in an easy and neat way for anyone to operate, with simple arrow buttons to move around the menus and selection is with the enter key located in the centre of them. There are security options, brightness and zoom features, location options (which basically means that if you fix the projector to the ceiling...

Epson EMP S4, one small, great projector
Review of Epson EMP S4 by
koobra
Advantages: Portable, quick to turn on/off, very easy to set up and use.
Disadvantages: Loud cooling system, rubbish internal speaker.
...I bought 10 Epson EMP S4 projectors for school I work for at summer 2006.
Below you will find my personal opinion after one year of using and maintaining that product, but first short description.
Epson EMP S4 is updated (in 2006) version of EMP S3. Epson's EMP S(x) line of projectors is design to suit mobile and office users. And it does it perfectly.
It's small (33X25X9cm) and light (2.6kg). It comes with small remote control and a bag with shoulder strap.
It's brightness (1800 ANSI lumens) and resolution (800x600) is sufficient to display presentation (text, photos and short movies) at 2-6m distance onto white wall or whiteboard (usage professional project screen will improve image brightness and sharpness) in bright room.
It has three types of video inputs (15 pin VGA, S-video and composite video input), so at the same time...
