...We recently took a week out to Crete, staying in the Chania area (no doubt review will come at some point). The three and a half hour or so flight was with a company called Nordic Airlink, someone I'd never heard of (again). We took a quick look at their website before going, just to see what they were all about (www.flynordic.com, if you are interested).
As you might expect, they are a scandinavian company, serving routes between Sweden, Norway and Denmark. I'd say they are definately a budget airline, judging from the prices - around £20 for a flight between Stockholm and Oslo for instance. We used their email to ask them about childrens goodie bags on the flight, and after a couple of weeks, they replied saying - none offered, but as of June they would - typical as we went last week of May. Anyway, not to worry, but worth...

Review of Nordic Airlink
Advantages: Scenic, lots to do, history, health promoting mud! Disadvantages: Might be too quiet for some people
...Situated just under 100 Kilometres from the Estonian capital, Tallinn, Haapsalu is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a charming little Baltic seaside town straight out of the days of the Tsars, a kind of Nordic Yalta, if you like. The town has a population of around 12, 000 but the main residential area with the customary post-war tenements are situated inland, while the picturesque attractions are clustered in the old town and at the edge of the water. In fact water features so much on the town that it is often described as the "Nordic Venice" although, personally, I found that epithet a little over the top.
There has been a settlement at Haapsalu for centuries but the establishment of the church of St Nicholas and the adjoining fortifications in the thirteenth century were instrumental in developing...

Review of Haapsalu, Estonia
Advantages: Cosmopolitan, Lively, Compact, heaps of Museums and Parks Disadvantages: Expensive
...Oslo, the Nordic City of Light, has changed over the last 100, and even the last 20 years, and a new cosmopolitan Oslo has wakened in the shadow of the images of the old sombre Oslo as depicted by Edvard Munch, the city?s famous painter.
Getting There
-----------------
Oslo is situated in southern Norway, at a latitude of almost 60 degrees N. If you have the time and the money, you can reach Oslo via one of the 100 or so cruise ships that stop here every summer, but otherwise the simplest way is via direct flight to one of Oslo?s two airports ? Gardermoen to the north of the city, takes 40 minutes into the capital, or Torp, served by Ryanair takes 1hr 40 minutes via the airport bus links. The cost of the bus trip from Torp to central Oslo, is 230 Kr per person, or around £20 return.
Getting Around

Oslo can...

Review of Oslo (Norway)
Advantages: Central location, great breakfasts, friendly staff Disadvantages: Somewhat overpriced, small bedrooms, tiny bathrooms
...and Breakfast hotel with breakfasts being served downstairs in a purpose built cafe-style room. The food really was a strong plus point in favour of this hotel and you really couldn't come away hungry after a breakfast here. In addition to a range of healthy cereals, there were at least 5 different kinds of bread and this being a Nordic country there were also several types of crisp bread. Alongside this was a smorgasbord of cheeses, cold meats, prawns and delectable home-made jams of which I particularly recommend the cloudberry. Finally, guests can select from a variety of fresh fruit and yoghurts together with tea or strong Finnish coffee. On Sundays the buffet is that bit more special and includes some delicious pastries and "pulla", which are cardamom-flavoured wheat buns much enjoyed in Finland.
Being a self serve buffet you can of course...

Review of Anna Hotel, Helsinki
...There's a new exercise craze called "Nordic Walking" sweeping across Europe and North America. According to a recent news report, hordes of people are now striding around with sticks in the manner of cross-country skiers, but minus the snow and the skis.
These people are all over the place, their sticks jabbing into the ground as alternate arms swing out and in. Left stab, right stab, left stab ...
Just the thought of it is enough to bring on a throbbing sensation in my big toe.
According to the experts, Nordic Walking is better than normal walking because it gives you a complete body workout, raises the old heart rate and burns more calories.
This form of exercise isn't just a solitary event, either. People are getting together in their spare time to form Nordic Walking clubs, enabling as many walkers as possible to...
Advantages: Plenty to do if you're on a weekend city break Disadvantages: Almost 3 quid for a 400 ml beer
...the winter if you’re a white Christmas junkie (perhaps en-route to Lapland to see Santa – don’t make me puke). Either way there’s plenty to do and lots of hotels (except at festival time!).
It's not the cheapest place to be, but not crazily expensive either especially compared to the other Nordic countries. It's certainly no worse than London is – in fact it's probably cheaper. Unlike London, getting around the city is cheap and easy, the public transport network is comprehensive, I particularly like the efficient tram system. Access to the airport is straightforward, and of course there are two large docks where you can take boats across the Baltic or over to Sweden and Denmark.
Buzz have been flying direct to Helsinki for some time. Allegedly they're a cheap flight airline so you might be able to get...
