Messing about on the river - The Norfolk Broads
Advantages: Utter peace and tranquility
Disadvantages: Can be expensive
..."THE NORFOLK BROADS "
"THE BRITISH HOLIDAY OF MY CHOICE "
Now I warn you all in advance, I could be here some time. I have had a long and passionate love affair with the Norfolk Broad, I hope though, through my passion I can tell you something about this lovely area of England and explain a little of the draw it can have on you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHERE AND WHAT ARE THE NORFOLK BROADS ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No the Norfolk Broads is not a group of East Anglican women of loose repute!!
The Broads is a series of rivers and man made lakes (known as broads) in the Norfolk and Suffolk. Although in the two counties,the majority of the waterways are in Norfolk and is generally known as The Norfolk Broads. The total area of these waterways is 303 km² (188 sq). miles...

Norfolk in general
Advantages: Plenty to do and see
Disadvantages: weather
...Norfolk in Genereal
There is so many things to do and see in Norfolk I have only just highlighted just a few.
Oxburgh Hall is in Norfolk and it belongs to the Bedingfeld Family since 1446.
The National Trust oversees the property.
I visited this several years ago but can recall that this was a fine Medieval Country House.
The first thing which I can recall is when you approach Oxburgh Hall you will find that it is surrounded by water.
Sir Edmund Bedingfeld was the first owner and the house had many Royal connections. King Edward 1V gave permission for the house to be built in the first place.
The only part which remains the same since 1482 is the Gatehouse. The was a drawbridge over the moat but in 1710 it was dismantled and the bridge was built which is what anyone who visits there now will walk over when they...

Norfolk Heritage Park, Sheffield.
Advantages: A Peaceful Place In The Heart Of The City
Disadvantages: Some Occasional Vandalism
...Norfolk Park is situated about one mile South-East of Sheffield City Centre and covers an area of 70 acres. It is one of six major City Parks and one of the reasons why Sheffield is one of the greenest Cities in Britain.
It is a place that I visit often as it is quite literally on my doorstep, but it is also a place that I try not to take too much for granted.
THE HISTORY
Norfolk Park has a long history and in fact it is actually one of the oldest Public Parks in England.
The majority of Norfolk Park was given to the Sheffield City Council in 1910 by one of the largest landowners in the area, the Duke of Norfolk. The Jervis Lum Woodlands, an area of ancient Woodland, which is now incorporated within the Park was given to the Council in 1956.
However the Park itself, which is now known as the Norfolk Heritage Park, thanks...

Talk about your Norfolk Holidays here!
Advantages: Lots to talk abouts. Can talk about your holidays (good or bad!).
Disadvantages: The choice of colours aren't too great!
...Have you ever visited Norfolk? Do you live in Norfolk or been on holiday there? Maybe you visit every year, or just visit now and again. Maybe you've never visited Norfolk, but plan to! Whatever the case may be, there is an informative forum set up for Norfolk Holidays.
THE FORUM
>><><><><>
The forum is a light blue in colour. Anyone can create their own free Forum with Aceboards. Once your Forum is created on the topic of your choice you can change the colours and add as much or as little content you require. I decided to make a Forum on Norfolk Holidays as I couldn't find one specific place where people could go to talk about their holiday experiences (good or bad!). And I know that millions of people visit Norfolk every year on vacation. Not to mention the Norfolk folk themselves that go on day trips in and around...

Metamorphosis Makes Norfolk Memorable
Advantages: Lots to see and do
Disadvantages: Can be hard to navigate if you are driving
...As Christmas drew near, Jon and I had some shopping to do. We chose Norfolk, Virginia, as our shopping destination largely because of its new mall, The MacArthur Center. After our first journey over The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel, we decided that it would be nice to go there for a short weekend holiday.
I'll digress and tell you a little bit about The Eastern Shore of Virginia (where I live) and it's relationship to the City of Norfolk. Norfolk is home to one of the largest naval bases in the United States. Much of the population there is transitory - only there for a few years before moving on to another base. However, the heart of Norfolk belongs to its long-time residents, who are quite proud of their home. Before I was born, one had to take a ferry across the Chesapeake Bay to get to Norfolk, where they would spend...

Norfolk - Near Yet So Far Away
Advantages: Relative isolation from London & Home Counties
Disadvantages: Equally relatively tedious journey to get there
...In view of the impending Suffolk review that I'm working on, I thought it only fair to make sure my Norfolk one was as up-to-date as possible, and I've taken this occasion to add in some of my favourite pictures.
Please note, this is not a travel guide to Norwich and Norfolk, just some demented jottings from me, a long-time visitor. You know how it is, whenever you go some place frequently, you always sideline things to see, waiting for the arrival of the mystical 'Round Tuit' (as in "I'll do that when I get a........")
I live in West London, and my In-Laws live in Norfolk ? therefore I go there quite often. Speaking to other people in my neck of the woods reveals that hardly any of them have been there. This set me thinking why this is, when Norfolk is relatively close to London, well, in distance at least.
Travelling time is...

No, not the women, the other Norfolk Broads
Advantages: Lovely scenery from a different viewpoint
Disadvantages: Can get busy
...If you fancy the idea of just bobbing along the waterways of East Anglia, then it's a good job the Norfolk Broads are there otherwise you'd have no chance.
Flat expanses of water that are easy to navigate (especially since there aren't any annoying lock gates to grapple with), the Broads makes an ideal place to take to the water on what may be your first attempt at spending a holiday afloat.
Lets start with 10 handy tips before discussing where to go, what to see and do.
Tip 1.
You drive on the RIGHT on the water. Most important unless you like filling out insurance claim forms.
Tip 2.
The maximum speed to travel at is 5 mph. I remember thinking how friendly people were as they were waving frantically at us, until I realised they were also mouthing the word "F I V E", as the wash from our boat was sweeping across...

Norfolk Line every time
Advantages: Economical, quiet, no school/coach trips, good food
Disadvantages: Can't think of any, unless you are a shopaholic
...I've travelled several times to France, by ferry, and have tried various routes and companies. From now on I will only ever travel by Norfolk Line.
As we travel by motorbike we don't need to book, we can just arrive and drive straight on, but we do book, just in case it's full on-line, very easy and quick. But if we want to change the travel time or date, we just turn up and they do that for us, and put us on the very next ferry, no hastle at all. It is very cheap on a bike, about £50 return, depending on time of year and time of day travelling.
It is a very relaxing start to the holiday, after a long drive by motorbike to Dover, there is just time to wind down whilst watching the crew cast off, have a good meal in the restaurant, then into the lounge for a relaxing coffee and set off again on the next stage of the journey...

Norfolk and Suffolk Broads - unique wetland
Advantages: Peaceful wildlife paradise - out of season
Disadvantages: Motorway on the water - in season
...Having been born and brought up in Norfolk and having lived and worked here for a good proportion of my adult life I count myself as well qualified to review the good, the bad and the ugly from an insider's perspective.
However, if its a boating holiday review you're after stop reading now. This is my personal 'bad and ugly' part of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads, however much money it brings to the area. If you want to visit the Broads I would recommend staying on dry land and hiring a day boat or two. That way you get the best of both worlds and don't get the bad bits of cruiser hire (i.e. endlessly ploughing up and down the 'motorway' confined with squabbling children, tied to facilities close to the water, paying excessively expensive prices).
So what about the 'good' aspects of the Broads. Well its got to be...

Riding along on the Brink of a wave.
Advantages: A family run and efficient company.
Disadvantages: You have to go home!!
...Any body who has read my review about the Norfolk Broads in general will know that my family and I are all completly bonkers about boating holidays on the Norfolk Broads.
So I thought that I would do a review or two about some of the boatyards we have used over the years.
This review is about a boatyard in my favoiurite starting place on the Broads,Wroxham, the boatyard being Barnes Brinkkcraft.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WROXHAM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wroxham gets called the capital of the Norfolk Broads, and is where boating holidays started in the late 1800's.
Wroxham Bridge - the road bridge into the village - the bridge has only 7ft 3in headroom at average high water. And apart from Potter Heigham Bridge, is the most difficult to navigate under.
As with the bridge at Potter Heigham there is a Pilot the to...
