Broome The Gem Of The North West [DVD]
A visually descriptive 30 minute program portraying 'Broome' a spectacular destination, situated in the North West coast of Western Australia. ...... more
A visually descriptive 30 minute program portraying 'Broome' a spectacular destination, situated in the North West coast of Western Australia. A tropical resort town, founded initially in 1883. It is an incredibly wild and beautiful corner of Western Australia. Broome was once the prosperous and bustling centre of the pearling industry. Broome stands on Roebuck Bay and is still a pearling town but not in the scale of years gone by. In its hey day there were some 350 pearling luggers employing 3,000 men working out of Broome. Divers went to depths of 27 meters and this resulted in many deaths. There was a predominant amount of Japanese divers and the Japanese Cemetery shows how they suffered. There are many signs of the Pearling background of Broome with abandoned Luggers and Museums. We take you to Gantheaume Point, where dinosaur's tracks are embedded in sandstone at the base of the cliffs and it is commonly believed they lived 130 million years ago. The tracks are visible only at a low spring tide. The essence of this destination is captured at Cable Beach, where the sands seem to go on forever and at certain times of the year the moon creates a stairway to heaven, a spectacular sight captured by our cameras. We bring the unique 'Sun Picture Theatre in the heart of Broome - an open air Picture Theatre and the Bird Observatory set amongst the mangroves where an abundance of Birdlife revel in the peaceful and tranquil setting. Containing so much history and beauty this program is a must see in the scheme of the Panorama Australia series of programs. And is the first of the 'Town' programs of Australia. Panorama Australia, world-renowned film makers present a series of magnificent programs that are a wonderful addition to every library worldwide. They are utilized frequently for schools and colleges also. ... less

Walks in North Lesvos: WITH The Lesvos Walkers' Map - L. Chilton
Explore the northern part of the interesting and traditional island of Lesvos, in Greece's eastern Aegean. Walks are based on the resorts of...... more
Explore the northern part of the interesting and traditional island of Lesvos, in Greece's eastern Aegean. Walks are based on the resorts of Anaxos and nearby Petra, but many of the walks are also possible from Mithimna/Molyvos, using the local buses. Anaxos is situated on the north coast of Lesvos, 9km south of Mithymna (Molyvos). The village is spread over a wide area, but with scattered buildings and much open space between most of the buildings, in contrast to the more concentrated built-up areas of Petra. Petra is a larger village, with an old heart centred around the Panagia Glykofilousa church, which is perched on a 35m volcanic plug. On the street circling to the north of the rock is the sunken 16th Century church of Agios Nikolaos, with some well-preserved frescoes. This book describes thirteen walks, including routes southwest along the coast to the long beaches at Ambelia and Megali Tsikhranda; inland from Ambelia to Skoutaros; to the pretty hill-village of Lafionas and on to the ancient ruins and meadows hidden amongst the pine trees at Agios Alexandros; through the quaint hamlet of Petri to a hidden valley filled with ruined watermills; the dramatic ascent from Aryenos to Pelopi via Mt Lepetymnos, the highest point of the northern half of the island. A14th walk makes a circuit of the beautiful woodland near the historic town of Agiasos in the mountainous centre of the south of the island. The coastal scenery is of long, sometimes narrow, beaches separated by low headlands. The coastal plains have fields, with occasional outcrops of volcanic rock, while the lower hillsides are stony with low, shrubby vegetation. Higher hills have a band of pine or mixed woodland, below summits that are often bare. The walks are not difficult, although some of the walks use old, cobbled paths which may have a lot of loose stones. Some ascents and descents can be steep in places. Large-scale sketch maps of Anaxos, Lafionas and Petra are included within the text. ... less

The stunning new novel from the rising star of the crime writing genre, Vanishing Point sees DI Jack Brady investigating the horrific deaths of young women in Whitley Bay - and uncovering a sadistic and powerful trafficking ring that has its roots in the highest echelons of power..."Moaning, she lifted her aching head up off the cold tiled floor. In the background the razor sharp noise of dripping water echoed again and again. All she knew was that she was hurting. Really hurting. That was when she realised that her tongue was missing..." Early on a Sunday morning in the North East seaside resort of Whitley Bay, a headless female torso washes up on the beach. Two days later, the body's missing head appears a mile down the coast - and with that, DI Jack Brady is plunged into one of the most harrowing cases of his career. The Costa Del Sol is the name of the southern Mediterranean coast of Spain. In former times a variety of bumpy roads connected the region's sandy bays and remote fishing villages but today its modern roads cater for mass tourism. Almunecar is the main tourist centre on this section of the coast. Once a tranquil fishing village, it's now a busy coastal resort. A wide road separates clean, extensive beaches from huge apartment blocks that were constructed during an amazing transformation of the coastline. Torrox is an Andalusian mountain village that has so far managed to remain off the tourist trail and in which village life continues as it always has done. Since Phoenician times Malaga has been a busy trading port that was defended by the Castillo De Gibralforo that is located on the summit of a mountain. The large bay, with its protective mountain range in the north, enjoys a mild climate throughout the entire year. Around ten kilometres south of Malaga is the modern coastal resort of Torremolinos, since the 1950's a centre of mass tourism. The city developed at a wild pace and soon had all the attributes of a modern holiday resort, with innumerable huge skyscrapers, bars and restaurants and also endless sandy beaches and exciting entertainment facilities. Marbella is the prima donna of the Costa Del Sol and a marvellous rendezvous for the stars of both stage and screen plus a leisure resort for the international jet set. The yachting harbour of Puerto Banus is the true symbol of Marbella and its quay has a colourful variety of bars, cafés, restaurants and exquisite shops. The journey through fiery southern Spain ends with the Rock Of Gibraltar. Dreamy harbour towns cultural metropolises with a Moorish past and Christian buildings and white villages. Twelve walks based on the village and resort of Elounda in scenic north-eastern Crete. Elounda comprises a cluster of small villages, the largest conglomeration being Skhisma, which contains the main square, harbour, shops, and many accommodations and tavernas. To the east of Elounda is the causeway to Greater Spinalonga island, through the area known after the ancient city of Olous. To the southeast of Elounda, the road to Agios Nikolaos passes many large - and often luxurious - hotels that occupy prime sites along the rocky shoreline. Routes include the Olous saltpans to Kolokythia beach on Greater Spinalonga island; west up into the Pinés villages; the high ridge walk onto Agios Ioannis Point; the ascent of nearby 563m Mt Oxa; and longer routes from inland Fourni or from the Areti and Kardamoutza monasteries down towards the coast. The scenery is mostly open hillside, criss-crossed with ancient stone walls, and colourful with wild flowers and shrubs in spring. The villages are generally compact, with most of the hotel development confined to the coastal strip south of Elounda. To the west are several flat, fertile plateaux, the largest at Fourni. The views to seaward are often spectacularly beautiful. There are a number of shorter walks in the immediate area of Elounda, plus longer walks in the hills to the west. Some of the older paths retain their cobbled stone surfaces. Several walks have steep sections, although usually on reasonable surfaces. There is usually shade, in the shape of isolated trees, on the routes. A few en route villages have café facilities. A few routes will have other walkers. Also includes suggestions for interesting visits further afield. Large-scale sketch maps of Elounda, Poros-Olous, Kato Elounda, Pano Elounda, and Kato and Pano Pines villages are included within the text. ... less

Adebanji Alade is one of the most exciting new artists in Britain today working in both oil and acrylic. He has won a clutch of awards for his dynamic, mostly urban, paintings that are usually full of people and life. Not that Adebanji paints his people with solemnity and precision. Often as not they are applied in a frenzy of colour and brushstrokes and are little more than dabs of colour. But the results are spectacular and it is this highly energised whirlwind style painting that he demonstrates on this his first teaching DVD. On this DVD he travel s to the quintessentially English seaside resort of Cromer on the north coast of Norfolk. The DVD was filmed in the middle of summer and Cromer was teaming with holidaymaking families making it idea territory for Adebanji. He paints his first two pictures on Cromer's Edwardian Pier before moving along the promenade a little to captures an amazing view of the pier and promenade from a high vantage point complete with scores of bustling visitors. He finishes up with a beach scene compete with fishing boats. Adebanji is a provisional member of the Royal Instutire fo Oil Painters. ... less

Walks in Northwest Corfu and Walkers' Map - Lance Chilton
17 walks exploring the lush hills and beautiful green countryside around the beach resorts of Arillas, Agios Stefanos and Agios Georgios...... more
17 walks exploring the lush hills and beautiful green countryside around the beach resorts of Arillas, Agios Stefanos and Agios Georgios North (Agios Georgios Pagon), on the NW coast of Corfu island. North of the headland with the village of Afionas perched on the top, is the scattered resort of Arillas, which has a long, though narrow, sandy beach ending at the shale, clay and conglomerate cliffs of Akrotiri Kefali. The name may derive from the Greek argillos, "clay". The large sandy beach of Agios Georgios (Saint George, the patron saint of Greece) is set in a large, horseshoe-shaped bay. The southern side of the bay has an escarpment of high cliffs, scaled by an old, paved donkey-road leading to the villages behind. Ag Stefanos has a large beach, although the sand has a tendency to be muddier after rain than at the other two resorts, with a gradually shelving seabed. Routes include the inland villages of Armenades, Kavadades, Magoulades, set between hills covered in olive groves; from Magoulades northeast across the island to Sidari; to Afionas perched high on the ridge between Arillas and Agios Georgios and with fabulous sea-views; to the pretty twin bays at Porto Timoni; exploring the line of villages at the southern end of Agios Georgios bay - Pagi, Prinylas, Vistonas, Makrades, Krini; ascending the spectacular ruins of the Norman castle of Angelokastro; and the descent from Lakones to Paleokastritsa. The routes are mostly fairly easy, with a variety of distances from short to medium-long. The walk between Lakones and Paleokastritsa is steeper than the others, but in general ascents and descents are comfortable. There is almost always shade on the walks, from the ever-present olive groves, though the humidity can be a little high. Some en route villages have café facilities. Large-scale sketch maps of the villages Afionas, Agios Stefanos, Arillas, Armenades, Kavadades, Krini, Makrades, Pagi, Prinylas, and Vistonas are included within the text. ... less

This book & map cover the area around the resort of Kokkari, on the N coast of the Greek island of Samos, presided over by the 1100m peak of Mt Ambelos. Most of the walks could also be done from Samos Town, using the local buses.Samos is one of the larger islands in the Greek eastern Aegean, and one of the nearest to mainland Turkey, with less than 2 km of sea between them. Kokkari is sheltered from the SW by the tall limestone range of Mt Ambelos. The mountain, with its once dense woodland cover, intercepts passing rain clouds & keeps the area lush;green in summer, in striking contrast to the other parts of the island such as the popular resort of Pythagorio (formerly known as Tigani "frying-pan") in the southeast. It can also mean high ambient levels of humidity, which may make some of the steeper hills tiring, at least during your first few days. The resort of Kokkari is built behind an older fishing harbour and around the two roads into the village, though it now has a bypass that skims off some of the north coast traffic. West from Kokkari are the beaches of Limonakia, Tzamadou and Tzabou, the coastal villages of Avlakia, Kambos, Sodoma, Platanakia, Agios Konstandinos and Livadaki, and the hill villages of Vourliotes, Manolates, Stavrinides & Ambelos. The 25 walks in the book, include routes inland from Kokkari; from the coastal villages of Avlakia, Kambos, Sodoma, Platanakia, Agios Konstandinos and Livadaki; thro the string of inland hill villages on the N side of Ambelos, namely Vourliotes, Manolates, Stavrinides and Ambelos; there are also more challenging high mountain routes including Pandrosos and the bare limestone summits of Ambelos (Profitis Ilias Karvounis), Lazaros and Lazariaki, as well as the Kastro Louloudas outcrop. The walks behind Kokkari go into gentler hills, while those to the west and southwest usually have greater, and sometimes steeper, ascents and descents. Some of the walks use old, cobbled paths which may have a lot of loose stones. ... less

Advantages: friendly people, rooms, pools, public areas very well looked after, different themes everyday
Disadvantages: food variation... but what was out was tasty!
...beautiful and two others however generally no probs getting a sunbed.
Fresh towels were inc. everyday. Unfortunately as stunning as the beach was, it was filled with beach sellers everyday so no sunbeds or relaxing down there! The complex also had a group of monkeys running around which were so funny and were great fun to watch... just make sure you close your balcony door when you go out!!!
