...Now I thought rather stupidly that when I bought this computer, that we were protected for ever with Norton Antivirus 2000. It ran happily in the background and it did not mither us. Dixons who we bought it off told us that we would not have to do anything with it again. So we did not and no one told us that we would have to update it or pay a fee every year. So low and behold for the first time in 10 years of using the internet we were hit by the Dummaru Virus. It is a lethal virus and we nearly lost £2000 of inbuilt software. When we took it to the computer shop, he was astounded that we were never given the correct information and that we would loose most things on our computer. After nearly passing out ans worried sick that we were going to loose 4 years of study material just when my husband is coming up to his final exam...

Norton Internet "Security" 2008 review

Advantages: umm......
Disadvantages: Thats more like it !!

...Norton Internet Security came with part of my Norton Anti-virus package, unfortunately, I wasted my money: The norton package was a complete faliure as protection, my computer got numourus viruses and popups of pornography. The apparant internet security let through a hacker that somehow removed all of my data, causing me to re-install my operating platform. The amount of space Norton took up on my computer was extremely robust, and the files often got currupted when i recived a virus (not particularly helpful as an anti-virus). After a month of the space-taking-see-through-firewall, i decided to browse for a knew anti-virus, and i found meny annonoymous packages for 1/2 the price, with no bad reviews on the product (Like mine). I would not reccomend the product for any mannor of computer, as it tends to ATTRACT viruses...

Norton Anti-Virus - made me feel ill!!!

Advantages: Easy to install, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Extremely poor customer service

...From what I have heard, most people have a satisfactory experience of Norton, however for me it was a complete nightmare. It is reasonably priced, as I'm a great believer in you get what you pay for and it's the most trusted name around. I'd checked the system requirements and was told by the salesman in Currys that it's idiot proof to install. I have a laptop and so i went straight home and tried to install it. The initial installation was fine, very easy to follow the instructions and seemed to work straight away. The problems came when it came to activating the product. For some unknown reason, it refused to connect to the Symantec server. I'd read the manual which was very helpful, and followed the steps (checking for parental controls etc) but to no avail. Disadvantages: can slow down your pc booting time a little

...So, why buy 2005 if you have 2004, I honestly couldnt tell you that, because you can just keep your 2004 up to date and stay just as protected. Having said that, I would suggest if you dont have any, then you need to seriously think about getting norton 2005. If you have an old pc then your booting time can be seriously affected by the loading of the antivirus and the personal firewall. What do you get for your hard earned cash? Probably one of the most well known antivirus software out there, which you can automatically update via the internet, which is essential as new virus' are produced on a daily basis. Norton AntiVirus Kills Malicious Code.

Advantages: Easy to use, customizable, very competent and thorough virus protection.
Disadvantages: Doesn't work in conjunction with some other antivirus softwares - but that's okay.

Advantages: Very effective, easy to use
Disadvantages: slow system scan time

...I have found this software to be very usefull and effective, especially the updates. This programme makes getting the updates so easy, you simply click on "live update" and it will connect to symantec's site and display all available updates, you just select everything you want and it will download and install them for you. When you install the software it will automatically set a scheduled time to scan your system - usually once a week, this you can change yourself to whatever you like. I cant really compare the sytem scan time to all the other versions of antivirus out there because I haven't personnaly used them all but it does seem to take a long time to complete a full system scan, approximately 1.5 hrs for my 20Gb hard drive. The settings are also very easy to navigate and adjust, some important info is displayed...
