Abandoned mountains in Norway
Advantages: Outstanding adventure in abandoned nature
Disadvantages: none!
...In summer 2006 i visited Norway with my car. We went to the northest point and therefore i can write a few lines about nice alps - not alps from central europe but alps from Norway.
These are close to biggest city above the polar circle called Tromso. As I said it is behind polar circle and therefore in summer the sun there never goes down - there is no sunset for months. This makes climbing mountains verz interesting there because you dont need to hurry to be down before sunset:)
We have driven to the village that is on the seaside in front of alps and there i bought a map. It was weird map because there were mountains on it without any path longer than 3km so i decided that we have to go without any road. The highest mountain is 1833 meters high and i have chosen Daltingen - mountain that was close to seaside and has more than...

Norway in a nutshell
Advantages: A great way to see some of the most spectacular scenery Norway has to offer
Disadvantages: On a foggy day, you won't see much!
...Although I was born and raised in Oslo, Norway, I have never traveled much in my own country. Last summer, I had a friend visiting from the United States and I decided this was my opportunity to see something beyond Oslo. My friend only stayed with me for a week, so between seeing the sights of Oslo and experiencing its nightlife, not much time was left. This was the main reason why we decided to take a trip with ?Norway in a Nutshell?.
?Norway in a Nutshell? is an extremely popular trip in Norway that lets you experience some breathtaking scenery. We started the trip by taking the train from Oslo to Bergen, although you can start and end your trip at any leg of the journey you chose. The train takes you from Oslo, through beautiful mountain landscape. I think I even saw a glacier! The first stop of the journey is Finse...

Norway at it's finest!
Advantages: Unrivalled scenery
Disadvantages: Cold weather-not for all. Can be expensive
...I went to Bergen with the aim of seeing spectacular scenery, and I wasn't disappointed! A picturesque harbour town which boasts a variety of shopping and eateries, I can't imagine it not appealing to anyone's nature.
Bad points: Although I hate to say it, Norway doesn't work out well in the exchange rate, therefore I'd take quite a bit of cash even for a short break. The weather can get pretty cold which I know isn't to everybody's taste, however I think this adds to the appeal of Bergen, so it's not a place for sun worshippers!
Good points: In a nutshell, the scenery is fantastic. An absolute must for anyone visiting Bergen is a trip up the tallest mountain on the tram. this provides unrivalled scenery both of the city, and of course, the famous fjords. There are also enough shops to keep you happy, however they aren't all that...

OSCILLATE WILDLY IN OSLO!
Advantages: Beautiful, friendly and welcoming
Disadvantages: Expensive and cold.
...Upon deciding to visit Oslo due to the unbelievable flight deals and cheap accommodation that was on offer, my travel "companion" and I quickly realised upon arriving in the city that a bargain is not what it seems, especially since we discovered that Norway is one of Europe's most expensive countries to visit, however, never let it be said that a paralyzing fear of flying or a distinct lack of money has ever prevented me from travelling further afield to broaden the horizons. At this point I must confess that the trip was in part funded by MasterCard and almost entirely by the West Bromwich Building Society.
Torp airport is the place you will arrive if you have experienced the "cut price" bargain airline service and being approximately 120km from Oslo itself doesn't stop one from travelling there, Torp Ekspress ensures that every...

Gales Whales and Fairytales!
Advantages: Spectacular scenery, rich cultural heritage, ideal base for Viking adventures....
Disadvantages: A long way to travel by sea, astronomical beer pricing
...Many moons ago, on a German language summer course in Mannheim, I became good pals with a Norwegian chap. We stayed in touch and a couple of years later back in 1994, I took up his offer to come and visit him in Bergen, where he was studying at University.
Affectionately known as the Gateway to the Fjords, for centuries Norway's second largest city of Bergen has been an internationally renowned trading port. Its historic and breathtaking harbour front featuring the World Heritage listed "Bryggen" - in essence a unique collection of colourfully painted and beautifully preserved wooden houses - helps ensure its status as an extremely popular destination for tourism.
I'll be honest from the outset. Frankly, as an unattached 24 year old setting out on a week's adventure, fully hoping to help a succession of fresh faced, blond...

Art Nouveau in Norway
Advantages: Scenery great and pretty architecture
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Ålesund is a pretty town on the coast of Norway, north of Bergen. The story goes that during a tragic fire on a cold night in January 1904, a prison warder released the prisoners shouting ?Come back tomorrow!? sadly the fire destroyed 850 homes and left ten thousand homeless. Fires were quite common in Norway where the houses are mostly made of wood. Architects and craftsmen came from all over Norway and rebuilt the town in 3 years and built some lovely Art Nouveau style houses, with turrets, spires and fancy ornaments which are much admired. It was voted the most beautiful town in Norway in 2007 by Norwegian people.
Ålesund town centre is built on the islands of Aspøy and Nørvøy, while Hessa and Oksnøy contain residential areas. The second largest island, Elingsøy, used to be accessible only by boat but a subsea tunnel was built to...

A capital disappointment
Advantages: nice palace, parks, fountains, nice hostel
Disadvantages: extortionate prices, boring buildings
...Oslo, the capital of Norway, was the second stop on my current month long journey around Europe. Going to Oslo was an obvious choice, as we were working our way through Scandinavia, it made sense to go to one of its capitals, and was also very easy to get to from Bergen, on Norway's west coast, where we'd made our first stop.
Getting to Oslo was relatively easy: we took an overnight train from Bergen, which since it was during the summer meant that it was slightly difficult to sleep as it didn't get very dark, though this did mean that we got to see the beautiful scenery of the Norwegian fjords as we wizzed across the country through the night. It really was a good way to see the countryside of Norway without actually going to stay there. If you're travelling from the UK, Oslo has a major airport so it shouldn't be too difficult to...

Independence Holiday
Advantages: Unique, not full of tourists
Disadvantages: Cold, expensive
...Well, i have visited Norway twice in my life. Once when i was younger and went on a cruise with my parents around the various villages, and once in April 2006 with my partner for a music festival in Oslo. I had not visited the capital when i went on holiday all those years ago, so had high expectations of what it would be like, judging by the vast beauty of the outlying towns and villages. When we arrived there was extensive building work going on around the city, which seems quite typical of Norway. As such a wealthy country, they are constantly making improvements and keeping their wealth within their own borders, something i admire because, well, it works. And walking around Oslo, you will see the lovely architecture and cleanliness of the streets, and know that it's money well spent.
On the other hand, as mentioned in my review...

Royalty and The Red Light District
Advantages: See opinion
Disadvantages: See opinion
...As some of you already know, I spent a huge chunk of my life in Norway. During the 18 years I spent there, I grew to love the country and its people, both of which will always have a very special place in my heart. I miss it terribly, and had it not been for the fact that I’ve found a very special person here in the UK, I might very well be tempted to turn around and go back.
Most of my time in Norway was spent in a town called Drammen, which is about 40 kilometres northwest of Oslo. As such, I visited Oslo on numerous occasions, in much the same way as somebody living in Basildon would visit London. I had a love/hate relationship to it really. There are reasons why I would never like to live in Oslo, but it’s certainly a beautiful city with plenty to offer the tourist.
Smack bang in the middle, you’ll find...
