Great Value 3-Star Hotel
Advantages: Highly recommended 3-star Dublin hotel handy for the city centre
Disadvantages: Not a lot!
...Bewley's Hotel in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, is arguably the best value 3-star Dublin hotel within spitting distance of the city centre. At a set price of a mere Euro109 per room per night (due to increase to Euro119 from 1st April 2008) Bewley's Ballsbridge is extremely good value for money.
The maximum number of guests per room is two. This means that for just under Euro60 per person you get a good standard 3-star hotel room, with all the usual 3-star amenities like an ensuite bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, TV, hair dryer, in-room safe, etc. An added bonus at Bewleys is that you also get free internet access (broadband) in all rooms and in all public areas using their wireless internet LAN.
Family rooms are also available that will comfortably sleep two adults and three kids. (Kids are free...

Handy, Well Located 3 Star Hotel
Advantages: Well located 3 Star budget hotel. Fairly cheap by Dublin standards.
Disadvantages: Not a lot!
...The Mespil Hotel is located on the Royal Canal on Mespil Road in Ballsbridge, only about 15 minutes walk from St. Stephen's Green and Grafton Street (the two main shopping areas of the city) and about 20 minutes from O'Connell Street and the Temple Bar area.
In a previous incarnation the Mespil was a large office block that housed the Irish Blood Transfusion Service. The transformation to a hotel took place in the early 1990's, and has been achieved successfully. (I was dubious when I first heard of the proposal!)
There's nothing special about the Mespil, but at in or around Euro100 per night, and with some special deals on offer if you book over the Internet, it would be a good, comfortable, 3 star hotel budget hotel for anyone either on a business trip or a short weekend break to Dublin. If you're planning a longer stay then...

The Star Hotel - An absolute Gem!
Advantages: Food - Staff - Location - Everything
Disadvantages: NOTHING !
...Just back from a wonderful stay at The Star hotel in Kingussie. We stayed for a 5 night break in Sept. and cannot find fault.
We were welcomed by the owner, and shown to our room.
Good size, with large double bed, nice dressing table & warbrobe with plenty of space for all our walking gear. Tea & Coffe making facilities aswell as an iron & hairdryer. You can have the option of having a bath or shower, we chose bath, which was huge!
Ample car parking behind the hotel which also doubles as a little beer garden.
Breakfast & dinner included in price...and to be honest we have never eaten so much in our lives!!! Absolutely amazing especially for the price! A full range of choices for breakfast, fruits, cereals & of course porridge! Orange juice on tap! Once you've devoured that, a full breakfast menu to choose from...from the full...

Harbour Hotel, Galway - 3 star
Advantages: Location, price
Disadvantages: Cheap decor, no air con
...Recently stayed in this hotel over the June bank holiday weekend. Mananged to get a good deal on a double room - E125 for two people sharing plus breakfast. The hotel is in a good location - only a 5 minute walk from Shop Street which is the main street in Galway city. Parking is provided by a multi story car park next door with a reduced rate of E3 for guests per day. Hotel decor is modern but low key. Staff were attentive and helpful at all times. The hotel bar was comfortable but lacked any kind of atmosphere so drinkers would be better suited to the city. Our room was on the top floor - ceiling was slanted which made the room quite small and the view was limited. Room was clean, but fixture and fittings were cheap - espically in the bathroom. The room was also extremely warm with no air con present.
Overall, our stay was alright...

The Star Hotel, Kingussie
Advantages: Great Value for Money
Disadvantages: Nothing
...My Husband and I have just returned from The Star Hotel, the hotel while being old fashioned it is extremelly clean and the staff very helpful and pleasant, the food is excellant I defy anyone to find better value for the money, the day before I arrived I injured my back and the girl on reception called Tanya kept heating my back pad in the microwave oven for me, she is a little treasure, on our second day we booked to return in March 2009 and we are looking forward to it, yes the hotel has no lifts but that is no problem, the portions of the food given are exceptional I'm sure I've put a stone on in the four days we were there. It is in a great location for seeing all other local sites, I can really recommend going to see the Reindeers just outside Aviemore a truly great experience...

Excellent 3-star hotel
Advantages: Excellent location, excellent breakfast
Disadvantages: None
...of 3 types of cereal, oranges, apples, strawberry + natural yoghurt, orange juice, apple juice, toast, hard-boiled eggs, jam, marmalade, honey, tea, coffee, Danish ham, salami, cheese slices, roll-mop herring, pate, white bread, pumpernickel bread, brown bread, rye bread, bread rolls, butter, Danish pastry etc.Our stomachs were quite full afterwards.
The bedroom TV has 10 channels including CNN, Eurosport and a couple of Swedish channels. There are 3 seating areas in the hotel reception. Tour excursions can be booked at the reception desk. The receptionists speak excellent English and were helpful. Check-out time was 12 p.m. Although the hotel was rated 3-star, I would deem its facilities as 4-star. The Principals Hotels chain owns the hotel.
We thought our stay was excellent....

Star Wars 3 and a Half
Advantages: Story. All the force powers
Disadvantages: It's too easy
...Currently I only have a Wii, I'm not a big video-game playing person but being a bit of a Star Wars fan I thought the idea of swinging your Wii remote about like a light sabre and throwing people about with the force was too good to resist.
The Game Story
When this film starts off if you're a Star Wars fan it's sheer bliss. At first you get the usual crawl of text summing up what's going on in the galaxy. You then step off a ship as Darth Vader! Your imperial troops are having problems. "Leave it to me" says Vader as he's about to embark on some ass-kicking. The best way to enjoy this mission is to just walk very slowly around as if nothing is really bothering you and casually slice and knock the wookies about. Being the first level it doubles up as a tutorial of sorts and you're constantly getting messages on your screen...

3 Star hotel? Are you kidding me?
Advantages: Close to city centre, cheap compared with other hotels
Disadvantages: Thin walls, poor/no service, no cleaning, cold shower, paltry breakfast
...I am a student at Oxford University, and I recently booked a weekend break for my parents in Oxford in Victoria House Hotel, seeing that it promised satin and silk and all sorts of luxuries in their website and leaflets, and it was very close to city centre. My parents were VERY unhappy with it and I feel it's important to reflect their views.
- Booking the hotel was pretty troublesome. My dad rang twice and I rang twice and finally I got through to the receptionist. His English wasn't very good so it was difficult to get him to understand what I was looking for, and answer my questions. I eventually managed to book a room but had to give him my credit card details.
- The website promised £69 a night for a double room (2 guests) but when my parents arrived, the surly receptionist pointed to a board on the wall that said £80 a night...

Taber Hotel - 3 Star perfection
Advantages: location, services
Disadvantages: no real bar, one perticular member of staff!
...A booking through Air miles for my 21st birthday present from my sister consisted of 3 nights stay in the Taber hotel Barcelona. I was thrilled, Spain was a country I had always wanted to visit and my research through lonely planet and the internet showed the hotel to be very central and a lovely looking hotel. This was proven correct upon my arrival at the hotel, only a 3 star hotel however it offered everything I was expecting and to a high standard and for only £65 each (booked through Air miles is always a bit cheaper) for 3 nights I had nothing to complain about.
Arrival - Our airport bus dropped us off at the main square 'placa de catalyuna' which has Las Ramblas off one side (the main busy street) and La Rambla de catalyuna off the other (the street the hotel is off) a short walk up La Rambla de Catalyuna and we came across...

Two star hotel with one star service
Advantages: Location, decor
Disadvantages: Lights not working, no plugs for sink or bath, grumpy staff, noisy, poor food
...closed so that I could sleep. The fact that my only neighbours in the other room decide to have an argument at 3am in the morning also kept me awake, but I suppose these things happen even in five star hotels!!
When I got up the next morning I made a bee line for the shower, only to find there was no shower, only a bath. It was then I found out there was no bath plug, there was no sink plug either, so with the prospect of having no ablutions, I had to 'cobble' together a make shift plug out of the soap packet they supplied!!
On my way to the breakfast room I asked the lady in reception if she could organise two plugs & fix my lights. 'No problem sir, consider it done' she said.
Breakfast was due to start at 7.30am, pity no one told the staff!! As I had a taxi booked for 8.15am I was a little anxious that by 7.45am they just starting to lay...
