Norwich & Peterborough - Gold Current Account
Advantages: Excellent Customer Service, Competative Overdraft and Credit Interest Rates
Disadvantages: Lack of branches outside of East Anglia
...I have recently started using a Norwich & Peterborough BS Gold Current Account.
The customer service I've recieved so far the service has been excellent. When I've had need to call I've been answered straight away with no automated menu system. The online banking is simple to use, the interface being similar to the Natwest system but without the lag. My only criticism is that it currently lacks the ability to download statements for use in Microsoft Money.
The interest rate on the account varies depending on the monthly turnover on the account but is paid monthly. For regular savers, however, a rate of 8% is available at the time of writing (Nov 2007).
Overall, the product is comparable to that provided by Nationwide but exchanging a lack of branches outside East Anglia for a far better remote service....

Beat the credit crunch
Advantages: Good rate - term mortgage, good customer service
Disadvantages: Not as cheap as old one!
...The credit crunch is biting and we needed to remortgage as our current lender (St James Place Bank) was not offering a competitive remortgage.
With products being withdrawn left right and centre we were starting to panic. Step in Norwich and Peterborough building society. We have been offered a reasonable rate (albeit costs more than our old mortgage but given the fact that interest charged on mortgages no longer follows the bank of England rate this is no surprise. We wanted a tracker offset mortgage. This means that we are able to receive no interest on the funds in our current or savings accounts but pay no interest on the balances.
We are paying the base rate plus 0.6% but it will go down if the base rate does which is great news.
The best thing about the N&P mortgage is the very low arrangement fee £550 compared to £2500...

Times have changed out with the old
Advantages: Wide range
Disadvantages: becoming impersonnel
...I have banked with Norwich and Peterborough for over 10 years now.
I went with them after I left Lloyds bank as an employee taking my Mortgage to them as they offered very attractive deals.
I opened a current Gold account and a savings account.I had an endowment Mortgage and this year changed it to a repayment.
They were very helpful and got me all sorts of finacial help as I had to have a life assurance which they wanted to provide. They arranged it all always at the end of a phone, I have all my contents and building insurance with them. This has proven to be a disadvantage as I am bound to them for 5 years ,so as rates go up and down I have to have what they say. They say that there prices are competable but they are still higher than what we could get elsewhere.
The Gold account very good and they offer you an overdraft but as soon...

Advantages: Great deal if you got in early enough
Disadvantages: Very poor service
..., the Norwich and Peterborough's online accounts) so I am at the mercy of their slow-to-respoind e-mail complaints team. Overall - best avoided....

Not impressed at all
Advantages: Most towns have a Lloyds/TSB
Disadvantages: A rip off
...big for it's boots. They can try to blame it on Lloyds, I can't say if they are to blame or not. I do say that the banks need to realise they NEED the customers, and that they would do well to return to a slightly more caring attitude. I went to Norwich and Peterborough, who gave me old-fashioned service, good interest on my savings and EVEN on my current account, and who always make me feel that I am valued! Lloyds /TSB would do well to learn from them!...

JUST THE PLACE TO GO
Advantages: the beatifull scenery
Disadvantages: none
...or take out. Its not like your average town centre like Norwich or Peterborough for instance its more like an old style town and it makes you feel like that you have just stepped back in time with the old slate buildings and the friendly atmosphere.
It's a tranquil environment with no hustle and bustle.
There is also a small zoo near to Keswick which has Monkeys, sheep, reptiles, beavers, turtles and many more and it is completely affordable at £6 per adult & £3 per child throughout the year.
There are also plenty of local pubs to eat and drink in., but I tend to go self catering as I own my own static home up there.
And finally if you think yourself to be a bit of a hiker then the obvious thing to do is go walking up the vast mountain sides. There are simple walks on Cat bells or you can do the Sheer face Scarfellpike which...

Grrrrr lemme at my Money
Advantages: good rates of interest, tight security
Disadvantages: see op
...Having taken the plunge and finally gone online with my HSBC current account I needed an online savings account. The idea of just transfering money online to my little slush fund appealed to me, after all I needed a safe home for all my new found ebay wealth! Also the thought of standing in a queue with a little passbook and the horror that is LT when she's BORED made online saving become even more attractive.
Research was done - well OK I looked at the interest rates in the Observer one Sunday morning and opted for the Norwich and Peterborough B/S - well they had the highest interst rates! After a quick snoop around the site I realised I need to have another account with them before I could open an online account - far to much like hassle!
So back to the Observer and we then logged onto Northern Rock. This former building...

monkey around!
Advantages: No tax or vat!
Disadvantages: hungrey monkeys! lol!
...miss easily. Gibraltar has many English shops such as BHS, marks and Spencer?s, Top shop, Dorothy Perkins and Burton; I have to say we did not find them cheaper, priced about the same really.
Special tips from Miffy!
As I mentioned in the begging of this review our coach leader gave us some very helpful information sheets I am going to share some of this useful info with you now!
· Stag bros: Best place for cigarettes; also carry a large selection of alcohol.
· Norwich and Peterborough Building Society: Only place to with draw English Notes!
· Sacarello?s: Best coffee in Gibraltar turn right at Barclays Bank.
· The Carpenters Arms; A Methodist Church Café run by volunteers, all profits go to charity.
Just to some up, Gibraltar was a great day trip we spent 5 hours on the rock and saw plenty, I recommend this place as a day...
