Very Poor service from Norwich Union

Advantages: Cheap ( but it seems you get what you pay for)
Disadvantages: Appalling customer service

...I echo the very poor service from Norwich Union. Our car was stolen and recovered but had some damage. We rang the claims dept and they said they wanted to use a repairer that was not local to us. We initially said no as we could not get to it in office hours (they were only open 9-5, Mon to Fri), but agreed when we were told that the car would be picked up, repaired and delivered back. A week later the company that recovered the car rang us to see why it had not been collected and we had to chase NU who seemed unable to answer phone calls. A further 3 weeks later after no communication we rang and were told we had to look at the car before it could be repaired. When we said that we couldn't and had said this initially they eventually agreed to more it to a more local repairer. This took a further 4 weeks. In all it took 11 weeks to get...

...Getting a quote for travel insurance for 2 weeks in cyprus started off at £96 for two of us from various travel insurers so searching the internet Sreentrade came up to find the best quote searching all those available, and this it did at £11.50 from each, thinking that there must be a catch I checked the company out and found it to be underwritten by Norwich Union and proceeded to purchase the cover. However, my bubble was son burst when I realised that every where was quoting me £1500 - £2000 for a G reg Fiesta. I had tried every company possible when I came across Norwich Union Direct. They quoted me £1150. Now to those ofyou with loads of NCB you will think this is crazy, but forthose of us who had just strated driving it wasn't too bad. I took up the insurance and received all of the docunmentation the following day, even though I was payiong mothly. I now have 2 years NCB and drive a Renault Megane Cabriolet and I only pay £600.00 per year with NU. What a result. I would strongly recommend NU to young drivers. Nevertheless, I thought I would share my experience of Norwich Union Direct and let you Johnny Consumer know what is good and bad about this particular company. ...Norwich Union are one of the biggest, if not the biggest home insurers, I have not reviewed an insurance company before, maybe it is because making a review on insurance interesting is nigh on impossible which it probably is, after all insurance is what actuaries do when they need a thrill. However it is an important product insurance, as in effect by having a buildings and contents policy with them I am in fact quite literally insuring my assets. Yes with Norwich Union I'm able to insure my manhood, not in the literal physical sense, valuable as it is to me in a very personal way and it does open the door for such comments as "They do offer redundancy cover" and "Are you covered for wear and tear?" ...This has to be one of the cheapest and most efficient car insurance companies going. Over the last week I have tried all the top names and over 50 other companies, the quotes I were given varied and ranged from £800-£1400 for third party insurance which covers fire and theft for me and my twin sister, so two relatively inexperienced drivers. I thought I would have to pay about £800 when I rang Norwich Union up, to tell you the truth I expected another high quote but I give them a go anyway. Like most insurance companies I was asked my details, the car details and I was put on hold and within a few minutes I got a quote. For fully comprehensive it was £956 and third party fire and theft was £650, wow that was impressive, the cheapest quote by far. ...I conatcted Norwich Union to get a car insuarnce quote for this year. My call was answered in india, Not that I am racist but I found it very hard to undertand the member of staff I was talking too, not only that there was a terrible delay in the line, The normal call for car insurance lasts about 10mins this taken me in excess of 20mins. I found that NU were really bad for adding things on to the quote without even telling me, I got the orgianl quote in excess of £520 and I told the staff that this price was terrible compared to what I had been offered from another insurer.
