...So, having just finished at Nottingham Trent University it made perfect sense to make this brief review on the place...trust me if I reviewed every aspect of life here that I've experienced it would equate to the length of War & Peace! Trent is officially the leading "new" university in the country and is predominantly a city-based campus, with two other campuses located at Clifton (about 5 miles south of the city) and Brackenhurst (a very rural campus based to the north-east). I spend three years there and had an awesome time. In my first year I was based at the Simpsons Halls of Residence, which are in the Lenton area of Nottingham. Although not the nicest area of the city, the halls were certainly some of the best. Having had coursemates and friends who were located at other halls such as Hampden and Sandby which are much closer...

Victoria Centre Nottingham

...Nottingham has two large shopping centres, the Broadmarsh Centre and the Victoria Centre, situated at opposite ends of the city centre .The Victoria Centre is the bigger of the two, containing 120 shops (not counting all the various stalls in the market area.) Getting there is easy - if you drive, there's parking for over 2700 cars . If you don't drive, don't worry - almost all the Nottingham City Transport buses stop either directly outside the Victoria Centre, or within a few minutes walk of it . Other bus companies from slightly further afield, such as Trent Barton , terminate at the local coach station within the centre . If you're walking, the centre is signposted from various points in the city centre, and at the end of the day when you're weighed down with shopping, there are 2 taxi ranks directly outside the main entrance...

Review of Victoria Centre, Nottingham

A little taste of Italy - by the Banks of the River Trent..

Advantages: Wide selection of food, affordable prices
Disadvantages: just needs to work on the finishing touches with service

...It's not every day that a new restaurant opens in a small rural Nottinghamshire village. Nor is it every day that my local shuts for a private function on an evening. However, due to the latter, and the fact that I had a craving for a great big bowl of pasta, for my Sunday evening tea, I somehow ended up at Pontefino's in Gunthorpe, Notts. Gunthorpe is actually home to three Trent waterfront restaurants, the other side of the river from my house, but nevertheless within an easy stroll. The third of these was the Anchor pub, and somewhere I had frequented only once in the last 4 years. This old pub was unable to compete with the modern competition of the massive chain restaurant nearby and the slightly more upmarket Tom Brown's Brasserie. Once upon a time in Nottingham

Advantages: A view of history through everyday objects in Nottingham
Disadvantages: No access for wheelchairs

...The table was covered in the bright green cloth of Lincoln scattered with children's games, the reflection in the large mirror of the heavy Victorian sideboard reproduce the image of the china tea service, the brass oil lamp and the big family bible. In the other corner was the Grandfather clock no longer ticking and the hearth of the fire place with it's big cast iron fender framing the roaring open coal fire reminded me of the days of my childhood visiting my Great, Great Aunt Caroline. This room was virtually identical to her front parlour right down to the piano that now lay silent but in my mind I could hear the tinkling notes that over 30 years ago I had heard when my brother attempted to play. But I wasn't in Aunt Carrie's house, I was stood in the Victorian parlour in the Museum of Nottingham Life at the Brew House Yard...

Severn Trent - the water purer than the company

It was was the Water Act of 1973 which created Severn Trent from the amalgamation of at least 25 publc authorities incuding Birmingham and Nottingham water boards. It supplies water to 8 million plus people and is regulated by OFWAT. In 2005, it was ordered to repay £4m back to customers for over-charging. Further fraud investigations and fraud allegations and substantial fines have followed. The company showed its better side when during the floods of 2007, it actively placed bowsers, in local areas. ...I used to live in Nottingham myself, on Mapperley Road just outside the city centre! It's actually classed as Mapperley Park the area although its around five to ten minutes from the city itself! I moved there with an X - girlfriend in October 2003, as she was studying physchology at Nottingham Univertsity. Ok, people told me I was mad and it was a crazy place to go especially at the young age of 18. I ignored them and hopped on the train and started living in a shared house near to Nottingham uni, on Derby Road. It was one of those you know where you don't plan it out and just be spontaneous and do it, everything just seemed to work out quickly though I was in a house straight away, got a job within a month of being there. Which in all fairness was fairly easy considering there are approx. 28 Recruitment Agencies there. Nightlife...

After a fairly unsuccessful first attempt at Uni elsewhere I decided to venture to pastures new and ended up transferring to the University of Nottingham. Having visited Nottingham quite a bit I knew the city itself was pretty ok, contrary to popular belief you can actually go out into the city and not fall victim to any random acts of violence. Advantages: Good local newspaper.
Disadvantages: None.

...If you live in or around Nottingham then you will certainly be aware of the Nottingham Evening Post. Published six days of the week this really is the main local newspaper for this area. The paper costs 29p (home delivered copies are 24p) and is published in a tabloid format. There is some colour in the paper but it is primarily a traditional black and white paper. The paper has an excellent news reporting team and is able to cover almost any story that is happening in the area. The paper is also very keen on photographs and has a small army of available photographers all around the county, that are able to attend local events.
