Nottingham Trent University
Advantages: Great Uni. Fact!
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
...So, having just finished at Nottingham Trent University it made perfect sense to make this brief review on the place...trust me if I reviewed every aspect of life here that I've experienced it would equate to the length of War & Peace!
Trent is officially the leading "new" university in the country and is predominantly a city-based campus, with two other campuses located at Clifton (about 5 miles south of the city) and Brackenhurst (a very rural campus based to the north-east). I spend three years there and had an awesome time.
In my first year I was based at the Simpsons Halls of Residence, which are in the Lenton area of Nottingham. Although not the nicest area of the city, the halls were certainly some of the best. Having had coursemates and friends who were located at other halls such as Hampden and Sandby which are much closer...

Nottingham University
Advantages: beautiful campus, amazing nightlife, great halls
Disadvantages: a lot of ra's
...I am a current student at Nottingham University (having just finished first year) and it has been everything I expected and more.
A big selling point of the University is of course the huge beautiful green campus, which has won various awards. Its focal point is the lake next to the trent & portland buildings which is really pretty, especially at night when the trent and portland buildings are lit up.
Life in first year revolves around campus, which is about a 15 minute bus journey from the city centre. There are numerous catered halls on campus, and also a large self catered student village 'Broad Gate Park' right next door. The halls make for a close knit campus community and the social side of things is great. We have the best of both worlds, as we're not claustrophobic being constantly in the midst of the city centre, while we...

Nottingham University lives up to reputation...
Advantages: Beautiful Campus, Good Reputation, Good Student lifestyle
Disadvantages: Campus far from town, Student bar not great...
...good on my CV, but the department is a little too dry and traditional for my liking. Elsewhere, all you need to know is that the Uni has a very strong academic rep. and that the business and computing campus at Jubilee is modern, purpose-built and impressive.
Nottingham has good facilities. The libraries are well-stocked and I find the opening hours sufficient for when I actually get round to writing that essay! The sports facilities are also excellent with a good sports centre, swimming pool and fitness centre. If, like me, you prefer doing something a little more artistic in the way of exercise or leisure, there is a good range of societies and clubs to fill your spare time, from Russian Soc and Cocsoc (the cocktail society) to dance and music.
The Campus bar is a bit of a let down because its just too small. Cosy I guess and it...

Nottingham University - a graduate review
Advantages: Fantastic campus, strong academic reputation
Disadvantages: Expense of NTL in the first year - suggest a contract mobile phone instead
...I graduated from the university of Nottingham in June 2000 after studying for three years for a BA in Economics and Philosophy, and I hope to offer my experience to anyone thinking of either taking a similar course, or indeed intending to apply to the university itself.
I decided on Nottingham because of its academic reputation, and the beautifully serene campus upon which most of the faculties and halls lie, and I decided on the two antithetical subjects of economics, which incorporates assumptions in model-building, and philosophy, which assumes nothing.
The first year was spent in Rutland Hall, a mixed, smallish hall with a long 'Karni' reputation, with my room overlooking the gorgeous levels of the campus, surrounded by foxes and squirrels. I could not have hoped for a better hall, although the 'Karni' atmosphere became...

Thanks Nottingham!
Advantages: Excellent campus, good rep and generally awesome
Disadvantages: campus is massive
...Having experienced two Universities in as many years I can definitely say Nottingham is awesome. After a fairly unsuccessful first attempt at Uni elsewhere I decided to venture to pastures new and ended up transferring to the University of Nottingham. Having visited Nottingham quite a bit I knew the city itself was pretty ok, contrary to popular belief you can actually go out into the city and not fall victim to any random acts of violence.
Campus - University Park
So I started out in Nottingham as a second year in September and have been enjoying it ever since. I'm based at University Park which is the focal point of the university for over 26,000 students. One of the most impressive things about the university is this amazing campus. The surroundings are really conducive to education; you have the benefits of being close to...

Victoria Centre Nottingham
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Nottingham has two large shopping centres, the Broadmarsh Centre and the Victoria Centre, situated at opposite ends of the city centre .The Victoria Centre is the bigger of the two, containing 120 shops (not counting all the various stalls in the market area.)
Getting there is easy - if you drive, there's parking for over 2700 cars . If you don't drive, don't worry - almost all the Nottingham City Transport buses stop either directly outside the Victoria Centre, or within a few minutes walk of it . Other bus companies from slightly further afield, such as Trent Barton , terminate at the local coach station within the centre . If you're walking, the centre is signposted from various points in the city centre, and at the end of the day when you're weighed down with shopping, there are 2 taxi ranks directly outside the main entrance...

Nottingham Uni.
Advantages: Good reputaion, lovely city
Disadvantages: public school boy/girl idiots
...Nottingham was just ranked 5th IN Britian by the independent newspaper, not a bad place.
Acceptance is fairly strict to get into the uni, 20-24 points avergae and be warned the exams are hard. Doing engineering myself, the step from a l;evels was a very large and sometime tricky one. The examination procedure is harsh, fail any exams sub 30 compulsory resit sub 40 at the discretion of the School. Then a resit, if that is faile dthen bye bye. No messing around here, they can always fill your place.
This aspect of the uni. gives me personally a very cold opinon of academcistaff, with tfew being approachable. Other schools may be different.
The first year it is very recommended to stay in one of the halls on campus. Not only are they cheaper than living out, yes they really are, self food shopping is expensive. But they also take...

Forget trying to get to Oxbridge - Nottingham's way much more fun
Advantages: The campus, people, bars, clubs, reputation...
Disadvantages: Isis
...Nottingham University is the most oversubscribed University in the country and having spent 2 years there so far, it's not hard to understand why. Nottingham is mixes campus university life with being close to the city centre very well and there's so much to experience when you're there. You might be nervous about starting at University but after fresher's week where you'll probably drink more alcohol than you ever have before you'll be wondering why you were ever nervous. When you're choosing a hall, it doesn't really matter where you end up because they're all brilliant but Derby and Rutland are among the most popular. There are 16 bars around the main campus which you'll no doubt be visiting a lot during your 1st year, and while the student union bars aren't the biggest compared to other universities they're still able to provide...

Once upon a time in Nottingham
Advantages: A view of history through everyday objects in Nottingham
Disadvantages: No access for wheelchairs
...The table was covered in the bright green cloth of Lincoln scattered with children's games, the reflection in the large mirror of the heavy Victorian sideboard reproduce the image of the china tea service, the brass oil lamp and the big family bible. In the other corner was the Grandfather clock no longer ticking and the hearth of the fire place with it's big cast iron fender framing the roaring open coal fire reminded me of the days of my childhood visiting my Great, Great Aunt Caroline. This room was virtually identical to her front parlour right down to the piano that now lay silent but in my mind I could hear the tinkling notes that over 30 years ago I had heard when my brother attempted to play. But I wasn't in Aunt Carrie's house, I was stood in the Victorian parlour in the Museum of Nottingham Life at the Brew House Yard...

Probably the Best Place to Study in England
Advantages: transport links, surroundings, teaching, facilities
Disadvantages: food in halls, no TV connection
...I originally wanted to go to Birmingham University and has Nottingham as my back-up. I didn't have a huge amount of choice, as there are few places in the country that do my course (French, German and Russian). I never visited Nottingham before I came here, as I live in Bournemouth and it is a very long drive.
I have found the teaching to be superb, and they are always most happy to help you if you have any problems. The modern language office is also very helpful, although it seems to be shut at some odd times during the day so if you're doing languages it's always worth checking before you make a trip there specially.
I had fallen in love with Birmingham when I went there to visit, but I am so pleased that I didn't have the right grades and came here instead. If I had known what I know now, I would definitely have put...
