Now and Then, which was on over here a few weeks back, incidentally the same weekend it was on UK terrestrial TV, is called Damals und Heute – i.e. Then and Now. It’s like when we say ”head over heels”, and they say “throat over head”. Strange but true. I saw Now and Then in the UK when it was first released. Then I bought the video, and the soundtrack. Then the book – although it was the German version from a bookshop in Vienna because extensive searching on my part revealed that there only seemed to be 3 copies of the English version ever published, and all of those in America. Advantages: A Celebrity Workout DVD that really works!
Disadvantages: The instructor, you need willpower

...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Why I brought the DVD ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most people have heard of Natalie Cassidy who until fairly recently had a major role in British soap Eastenders, playing dowdy Sonia Jackson. It's well known that she didn't have the best of bodies and since leaving Eastenders has appeared in a number of celebrity magazines showing off her fabulous new figure. Celebrity Workout DVD's have never appealed to me, they have always been airbrushed or don't eat to look like that and have never made me want to buy one, but Natalie Cassidy's weight loss was amazing, she has done so well and seeing pictures of her in magazines showed how well she was looking without being over the top, I thought this was one DVD that might actually be worth purchasing, if the workout could do what it did for her then it would do wonders for me...

Natalie Cassidy's Then & Now Workout

Advantages: Fun, inspiring, great workout
Disadvantages: Could get boring if you rely on the DVD alone

...sweat for a reason"! It's a pretty intense 15 minutes of "power moves to burn fat" there's lots of jumping about which really get's your heart rate up. There are lots of leg exercises included such as leg curls and lunges. Punch Another 15 minute section here. Again, lots of jumping about (I think this section is just as sweaty as the previous one, but I guess they needed a different name!) Boxing moves are introduced with part of the section dedicated to a punching routine and part to kicking which are then both put together at the end. It's very good for releasing tension. I reckon my neighbours have probably been wondering by this point what the hell is going on next door, must sound like a heard of elephants! Crunch Toning moves for arms, stomach and waist followed by stretches to cool down. Entire workout lasts about 50...

Natalie Cassidy Then and Now DVD- - Get Sweating!

Advantages: varied moves, makes you sweat, lots of fun!
Disadvantages: some steps are complicated, natalie's expressions

...I started looking for a new workout DVD after purchasing Davina Mccalls High Energy Five and becoming bored with the aerobics section, so I looked at different reviews and settled on Natalie Cassidy's Then and Now, simply because it had so many raving reviews. At first, I REALLY didn't like this DVD, the steps seemed too complicated and the instructor doesn't explain everything properly and seemed to expect you to get the moves without explanation. Anyway, I decided to give it another go and was so pleased I did. It seemed a lot easier the second time round, and the more you watch it the clearer the moves become. I think you have to be very co-ordinated and quick on your feet (especially with the high kicking!) to grasp all the moves, the bunny hop in particular as I've done this move so many times yet still can't do it as fluently...

Now and Then

Advantages: A good read and good background on the band
Disadvantages: Unauthorised so no interviews with the band for the book

...by Harper Collins Entertainment, and I got my copy from my local library. You could try your local library for a copy, or for your own copy - try ebay or Amazon. It's well worth a read, no matter if you were a Take That fan in the 90's, now, or if you rather Robbie Williams....

Old School Ties

Advantages: Evocative writing, vivid characters
Disadvantages: Only the pervading sense of loss

...I first encountered William Corlett through his novels for children, notably 'The Summer of the Haunting' and 'The Steps Up The Chimney', both of which served as showcases for his flair, originality and rare skill as a writer. I picked up 'Now And Then' without realising quite into what category it fell - ie, 'Gay and Lesbian', as Ciao has classed it - but once I had begun reading, nothing could have stopped me. I think the way I stumbled into the novel highlights quite clearly the universal nature of Corlett's story. I am not gay, nor would I ordinarily choose to read gay-centric modern novels, but the fact remains that Corlett's story is one that can be enjoyed by readers coming from any cultural context or political standpoint, provided that they approach it with an open mind. Corlett's writing - always tender and evocative...

Music fills your heart....

Advantages: Good collection of hits, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Not enough new material

...honest, but things improve by the chorus. Track 21 is "Ricky's Tune" is sadly a rather boring £new" track written by David himself. I don't even know what it's about, try as I have to listen to it. Track 22 is a live version of "Could It Be Forever" which was recorded with Hearsay. Well, the album is 3 years old now! Whatever you think of that band, they were pretty good singers and this isn't a bad cover. The album cover has a picture of David in the 1970s and a pic of him from 2002. The inlay booklet has some of the song lyrics (perhaps 22 songs were too many to print or something!) and some scrummy pictures of David from the 1970s. Overall, this album is probably strictly for fans. There were different versions released in different countries and the US version is a bit better than this version I bought....
