Numark Axis 9 The best value cd deck for rookies and bedroom Djs
Advantages: Consistent, All main effects (scratch + key lock that WORKS)
Disadvantages: No built in memory
...I dj 2-3 times a week and often take my equipment in and out of venues so I need equipment that is durable and reliable. Ive had a pair of axis 9's for a few years now. They have turned out to be quite reliable and consistent where more expensive models weren't .. very important if you dj'ing at a gig.
If you are a laptop Dj the Axis 9's works fine with all the major software, VDJ, Rockit, Traktor etc.
There are some new features on the axis 9's along with all the standard feature on the axis series. Pitch-lock (called key-lock on numarks) is one of the most useful features I use and in my opinion axis 9's do this much better than others in a similar price range like 1200DZ or CDJ 200. They have very decent effects that are really easy to use, most notably, the scratch function which is a direct improvement from previous models like...

Numark PHX
Advantages: wires and ear cups can be changed and amazing quality for the price
Disadvantages: ear cups not very comfy and crackles when very loud
...The Numark PHX headphones are ideal for anybody wishing to have high quality headphones without paying a price too high. From my own experience I have found these headphones to be ideal for DJ'ing. For the price they are sold it, the quality of the headphones is very high. A good feature for the Numark headphones is the wires and ear cups, which can be changed. This comes in useful for different situations. The only downside of these headphones is the small crackle when they are pushed to the very top of the sound level. However this is only a downside for those people who have the headphones unbelievably loud. Another accessory included in the headphones box is the carry case to move the headphones around. The only thing I could think of for improvement of these headphones is for the ear cups to be a bit more of a comfy fit to the head...

Numark CDX
Advantages: Turntable style CD player better than a turntable
Disadvantages: reliability
...The Numark CDX is one of the best profesional CD players on the market. their reliability raise some questions but as an over all there great. its the closest you can get to a vinyl turntable
the CD player works and looks just like the numark TT direct drive turntable, with 2 start stop buttons and start up speed and break controls and programable pitch controls so you can set it up to feel like almost any turntable you have used before.
you can scratch just like on a real turntable with added features to only play a part of the scratch, the forward or backward part.
The unit also comes complete with effects built in. the effects range from filter to sonar and are controled with a jog wheel for smooth effect ranges.
you can chop, slide, ptich bend, filter and sonar (like phazer)and even play the cd backwards with one touch...

Good, solid beginner mixer
Advantages: Low/Mid/High Gain & Kill + Phono/Line Switching
Disadvantages: 2 channels, set-up can be challenging.
...The DM-1002 MKII is a solid and good mixer for beginning DJ's.
Everything from the stylish design, to the ease of use - is something that makes the mixer normally a join to use. Being able to output to master and record gives the mixer a helpful capability (with each output being able to be gain adjusted)
The mixer has two switchable line in & phono inputs, master & record outputs and a helpful crossfader to fade between each channel helps the beginner DJ get a feel for using hardware, rather than software controls.
The ability to connect a 1/4 inch microphone (with volume and tone changers) as well as the ability to connect a 1/4 inch headphones (also with volume and tone changers) gives the DJ full flexabity connecting other equipment (such as mics and headphones you already have).
I use this mixer to present live dance shows...

Mixer Review
Advantages: Ease of use, Durability, Great First Mixer
Disadvantages: You will want to upgrade after time, cross fader wont last forever
......etc.
The next mixer I buy will be a Numark mixer as I am impressed with the durability and layout of this one. This only reason this doesn't get 5 stars, is that recently the crossfader has started to not completly cut out the left channel. But this is more probably from excessive use, as crossfaders arent something that last forever and can be replaced.
One last thing that I will add is that I mix dnb and this mixer works well with this type of music. It has the right response for what you wlll want to do. All in all a good first mixer I would recommend for someone that is starting out.
If you have the money to spend a bit more go for it as, for another 50 quid you will get one that does a lot more, but if you are just starting out its prob not worth it if you find out that its not the thing for you!...

Numark TT500 all looks and power
Advantages: huge pitch range adjustable start stop
Disadvantages: ugly not the most practacal
...I had a pair of these Numark TT500 for a short while and although good they left me wondering WHY.
Numark are old hands at making good quality dj turntables but i dont know what they were thinking when desiging this one. part of a dj set up is the look and 2 of these used normaly with the tone arm and pitch control on your right and a mixer in the middle looks a little silly.
The tone arm design is straight which again i found very different and wierd.
apart from the looks its a good turntable with all the functions you expect.
the pitch control has a huge range, Variable pitch range 8/10/20/50 %.
and adjustable start stop speeds.
This is pitched as a high torque direct drive tturntable and yes the torque is good but i have felt better.
all in all a good turntable, great if you need the extra pitch range not very good if...

Denon DM31's quality shines
Advantages: Fantastic audio performance, small, stylish, durability
Disadvantages: Lacks DAB tuner
...Denon have an excellant reputation of producing home entertainment components of an awesome standard. They have produced over the years some fantastic benchmark products, and the Denon DM30 is no exception. Voted as the best micro hifi for atleast three years, Denon DM30 is an excellant product.
With micro systems available from just £50, some people may find it hard to justify spending about £220, but for those who desire good audio perfomance this is an essential product. I can provide three good fundamental reasons to spend more money when purchising a micro hifi, they are
1) Sound. A more expensive micro system, such as the Denon DM31 will provide MUCH better audio performance. You will be more enganged in the music and will want to listen to more music.
2) Durability. The lifetime of cheaper micro hifis under £150 is litte...

Denon DM30
Advantages: Great sound quality, Very stylish, Good build quality
Disadvantages: User interface not user-friendly enough
...I bought this product about a year ago along with the tape player which you can also get and have been very happy with it.
Having purchased Denon products before I had no problems in paying a bit extra for what I knew would be a top quality product.
The DM30 offers exceptional sound quality both from cd and from the radio, it has a very stylish design with a metal fascia rather than a tacky plastic one which you get on cheaper Hi-Fis. You get a couple of very nice wood-effect speakers which look superb and are designed and produced for Denon by "Mission".
The DM30 has RDS, RadioText (scrolls information broadcast from radio stations such as who the DJ is, news, etc.), EON, PTY and other features for the radio. It has input and output sockets in the back so you can connect other AV devices to it. I currently have a tape player...

Full featured 3 channel mixer
Advantages: Nice looks, kill switches, nice sound
Disadvantages: cross fader feels delicate
...' and master out, and a connector for a 12v gooseneck lamp. The crossfader and front panel switches are hot-swappable, so if one dies in use it can be replaced as long as that channel is not being used. Headphone output is well amplified and microphone input has almost no background noise.
This mixer would suit any one who has enough money for it. It's sturdy, looks very good, and comes in colour schemes that will match Numark blue decks or standard black/silver decks. It's one of the best mixers I have used....

Rowenta DM825 - Ironing made easy
Advantages: Good glide, large water tank
Disadvantages: None
...Having killed my last iron (I managed to melt a fleece onto the soleplate!), it was time for an upgrade. My previous iron was also a Rowenta, a model down from this one. I had always been happy with the brand, so I decided to go for the DM825. My decision was helped by a recommendation by Which Extra in their best buy guide.
The DM825 Professional Luxe Steam Iron (to use its full name), is a very good all round iron. It looks modern and attractive (I've had it about 5 months now and it still looks brand new). It's not too heavy and glides really well, which is a definite advantage as I now get the ironing finished much quicker than before, and I can honestly say the results are very good.
All the buttons are easy to use and it does seem to warm up to just the right temperature on each setting. The temperature 'wheel' is just...
