Heat me up Scotty....
Review of Scotts Porage Oats by DylanD

Advantages: Tastes Lovely
Disadvantages: None

...The thing that catches your eye about this particular box of Scots Porage Oats is the way the word porridge is spelt (No not the attractive looking Scottish Guy in the kilt!) The spelling Porage is used. (Which confuses my spell checker on Word!). Porage is the proper Scottish name for oatmeal heated and mixed with milk or water. Whereas I like to eat my porage with sugar and syrup on top real Scots use salt! But I have an excuse I’m not Scottish! Scots Porage Oats in my opinion is the best porridge brand around and for half the price of similar products like Oats So Simple you get a hefty 1KG box of Oatmeal, which lasts for ages and costing £1.34 from Tesco but you must cosume the packet within two months. I chose this as I love my porridge and Oats So Simple was getting so expensive to buy every week as it didn’t last me long enough... Read review

Things to do with Quakers
Review of Quaker Porridge Oats by mjbarkley

Advantages: Quality Rolled oats great for baking with
Disadvantages: Makes horrible Porridge

...To make a bowl of porridge take a saucepan with salted water in add a handful of oatmeal medium or coarse depending on how you feel and boil until thick enough. Serve in a bowl with milk or cream so your porridge is a floating island in a sea of milk. Add salt to taste and enjoy a meal to pick you up for the day. Do not use rolled oats if you want real porridge as it ends up with no real texture and in my opinion not worth even trying. What can you use Quakers Porridge oats for then? They can be used for breakfast. I can think of two ways. Mueslei add nuts dried fruit brown sugar and whatever else you like and serve cold with cold milk. Porridge oats are delicious with your Cornflakes to add a variety of taste and texture. I would not advocate eating them on their own! Quakers Porridge oats are not only good for breakfast... Boost your libido!
Review of sainsbury's organic porridge oats (scottish) by anwar

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...Like most parents I try to ensure that my family all eat a healthy diet. For me, breakfast is an important meal although it is usually rushed! Each morning a make a large saucepan of porridge although at weekends we sometimes have a boiled egg too! I have avoided cereals for several years now due to their high sugar and salt content. I really dislike the advertising for so called healthy cereals! Most contain large amounts of sugar and salt. If you have never done so then I suggest you read the list of ingredients! I like to buy organic food whenever possible and have tried several brands of organic porridge. My favourite is Sainsburys organic porridge oats, part of their SO range. Before I tell you about the product let me give you some information about porridge. Porridge oats. *********** Oats were being eaten in ancient Britain... Read review

Quaker Oats
Review of Quaker Oats by Jeser

Advantages: Great for a good morning warmer in winter and great flapjack
Disadvantages: none

...a sponge in the digestion process in mopping up excess cholestorol from fattier foods and reducing the chance of your heart artries becoming blocked. * GREAT USES * I have found Quaker Oats make great porridge in the microwave by putting half a cup of oats into a cereal bowl and adding 125ml or 1/4 pint s/skimmed milk in the cereal bowl stir and heat in the microwave for 3 minutes sirring half way through cooking time and then when 3 minutes cooking is complete stir and stand for 1 minute for best results. THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS ARE BASED ON 850W MICROWAVE. Doing this prevents those horrendously sticky hard to wash porridge pans associated with cooking porridge in the past. Jonathans old English flapjack. 12oz 350g of butter or margarine 8oz demarara sugar 1 full bottle or tin 1lb 454g of Lyle's golden syrup 1lb 454g of Quaker Oats... Read review

A Filling and Healthy Breakfast!
Review of Quaker Porridge Oats by HannahBoo

Advantages: Tasty, Healthy, Filling breakfast.
Disadvantages: Little more hassle than cereal (have to make it).

...*** You should be able to find Quaker Oats in most supermarkets. Three different size packs should be available (500g, 1Kg, and 3Kg). The price is roughly £1.55 for 1Kg pack. ***THE BEST WAY TO COOK YOUR PORRIDGE OATS*** I totally believe that saucepan cooking is best. You will get a thicker and more creamy breakfast if you cook your porridge slowly on the hob. The longer you leave it the more creamy it becomes. You will probably get better results if you use full fat milk, but I always use semi-skimmed and still love the taste. If you are on a diet and want to use water with your oats then you can, but I wouldn't recommend it as it doesn't taste too good. It all depends on what you are used to. Personally I don't put sugar on my porridge, I don't think it needs it. The only time I put sugar on my porridge is if I've been ill... Read review

Something Hot, From Scotland.
Review of Scotts Porage Oats by Marans

Advantages: Tastes good, good value, good for you.
Disadvantages: None

...dropped the box once, and nothing escaped. The instructions give you a choice of making the porage with milk or water. I'm a water baby myself, but however you like yours don't rush when you make it. Oats must be properly cooked to taste their best. I simmered mine for the six minutes required, in a saucepan. As usual, the pan had a white coating stuck to it when I served the oats, but a short soak in cold water soon lifts this off. Non-stick pans might prevent this, but I can't comment, as I don't have any. The porage was quite thick. I always thin mine down with milk as I don't like it too sticky, but the rest of my family always preferred theirs thick enough to stand a spoon up in, and this wasn't quite up to that test. This is a very individual thing, and it's easy to adjust the quantities to suit yourself. The taste was very much... Read review

Are you getting your oats
Review of Quaker Porridge Oats by sandrabarber

Advantages: tasty, filling, nutritious, cheap
Disadvantages: none whatsoever

...them this way, as I find them easier to digest, but if you want to buy them in their natural state, look for the 'jumbo' variety. To make your porridge, you mix your oats with either water, water and milk, or just milk. Then heat them up either in the saucepan or microwave. Making porridge is one of the very few things I use a microwave for as it is quick and far less messy than a pan. I won't give weights, measures and times, because how you like your oats is your own affair. The longer you cook your oats, the more they break down and the creamier your porridge becomes. Obviously, milk produces a creamier taste and texture than water. Personally, I like mine slightly undercooked and made with half milk and half water. A general rule is to use at least double the amount of liquid to porridge, measured in a mug. Then comes... Read review

Weird spelling but a great product
Review of Scotts Porage Oats by sadoldbag

Advantages: cheap, nutritious, healthy, low on packaging, easy to cook, delicious
Disadvantages: none, unless you don't like porridge!

...Scott's Porage Oats were a familiar feature of my childhood, and have always stuck in my memory, partly because of the very distinctive scotsman in his kilt on the packet, and partly because I tried to spell porridge in a spelling test at the age of nine the way they do on the packet (porage) and my teacher marked it wrong. That really confused me! But though I travelled through my teens and twenties eating chocolate croissants and black coffee for breakfast, the arrival of my own children triggered the porridge bug in me once more. Both my little children love porridge, and now I make enough for all three of us and we all start the day with a bowl of Scott's oats, made with full cream milk for them, and half semi-skimmed, half water for me! I personally love the thick-milled variety - they give the porridge a great texture - and I... Read review

Weetabix Seriously Scrumptious
Review of Weetabix Seriously Oaty Porridge by easypeel

Advantages: easy, filling, nutritious and tasty
Disadvantages: makes for a messy saucepan

...usually do this just after putting the milk on the hob. This is because the raisins then swell with milk and are much more juicy. Try it - Sunmaid raisins work nicely with this. After the milk is hot, but before it is boiling, I tear open the sachet and shake it gently, bit by bit, until all the oats are in the bowl. The oats are a mixture of fine dusty ones and bigger grains, which give the porridge its "Thick and Hearty" tagline I suppose. I usually stir whilst the oats cook, even though you can just leave them alone. But I find this adds to my anticipation of the breakfast. Within a few minutes, the oats are all cooked, and a nice, hot steaming bowl of porridge can be enjoyed. The oats taste quite light and creamy, and the more milk/full-fat the milk is, the creamier they taste. They taste very different to Quaker Oatso Simple, my past... Read review

♥ Getting Your Oats ♥
Review of sainsbury's organic porridge oats (scottish) by susie191

Advantages: Delicious for all bears
Disadvantages: Goldilocks may want some.

...morning, Mummy Bear made her youngest boy bear a bowl for breakfast. He sprinkled on a little spoonful of sugar and said it was nice. Then she made a bowl for herself. And this is how she made it. ♥ SO Easy ♥ Mummy Bear poured some oats from the packet into her bowl (it was a special bowl that she could use in the microwave). She was careful not to pour too many in because she knows that it is important to leave room for expansion where oats are involved. She poured on some milk (quite a lot of semi-skimmed milk) and then she popped it into the microwave for one minute on high power whilst she poured herself some hot tea (made with her lovely glow in the dark kettle). When the microwave went beep beep beep, she removed the bowl and stirred her swollen oats and added a dash more milk. Then she returned them to the microwave... Read review
