Ocean Village....
Advantages: Fantastic holidays for everyone....
Disadvantages: ?
...Well, having read one other review not reccomending Ocean Village at all ... I thought I would share my view.
Being a travel agent I was lucky enough so spend a Week on Ocean Village in October, Sailing the Med for a week.
Well.. I think it was fantastic. Which just about sum's it up!
However, I do agree with the fact that upon arrival at the Docks in Palma that last thing you want is a picture being taken - though it is of upmost importance if you want you ID card for the ship, you are unable to get on without so!! Go grin and bear it guys!
We boarded around 12 miday and went stright to the pleasure deck as out cabins were not ready till 3pm, which was slightly aggravating as I needed a jolly good wash... , but top deck we had a loverly BBQ going, lovely burgers, potaotoes, salads... which we happily munched till we could...

Ocean Village
Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: 0
...We went on our first cuise last October and used Ocean Village as it is not considered a 'posh' one. We chose a two week one and sailed the Eastern and Western Mediterranian.
You don't have to dress up if you don't want to and we found the cruise PERFECT.
From the start leaving Manchester airport to Palma the travelling went very well with no delays and we were never kept waiting anywhere, the coach journey to the ship was great.
When boarding we were upgraded free of charge and we were very pleased with the cabin, plenty of room with ammeneties ( we had an outside cabin, no balcony, deck 8).
I defy anyone who says something bad about the food, there was everything you could think of available and served correctly ie hot was hot. There was so much choice that the first few days we did 'stuff' ourselves! but then we calmed down...

Ocean Village 2 Week Cruise around the Med
Advantages: Great informal setting. Very helpful staff and very relaxing
Disadvantages: Shore excursions can be expensive.
...Well, its hard to know where to start. Right from the beginning is a good bet I think. I will try to be as honest as possible on all aspects of the cruise.
We booked a 2 week cruise and flew from Newcasle on 9th May 2006. The flight was a little cramped but then again its only for a couple of hours. We flew with Thomas Cook airlines and arrived in Palma in the evening. The first thing to hit you was the heat. It was 8c in Newcastle and in Palma it was hitting 25c. Everything went very well and ran smoothly. One little thing. Its a 15 minute walk to reclaim your cases at Palma airpost, therefore, if you have walking difficulties speak to the rep and get a buggy ride to the baggage reclaim area. Once you have collected your bags you will be met by an Ocean Village Rep who directs your to a fleet of busses ready and waiting to take your...

Ocean Village 2 - 14 day cruise.
Advantages: The crew/staff are fantastic, mostly islands are great and a spotless ship.
Disadvantages: The entertainment is generally crap. We deserved better.
...6th April 2008. Ian Dickson. Ipswich.
Just returned from 2 weeks on the Ocean Village 2 cruising the Caribbean on their Sugar and Spice / Coral Calypso cruise.
The flight across with First Choice Airways was good although the aircraft (Boeing767) was replaced with a Thompson one through technical fault. No delays though and a good flight with 33 inches seat pitch so lots of leg room.
The cruise:
The ship is spotlessly clean, the crew 1st class in every way. The food is good but severely biased towards Asian/Indian/Chinese with not a lot of British food on offer. The cabins are good and big enough without being spacious. Lots of storage space - much more than a typical holiday hotel room. The shower etc is fine.
The decks get crowded on the sea days and if you want a decent spot to sit together you MUST get up on deck...

Ocean Village Two - Villas & Vineyards, July 2007
Advantages: Modern, Clean Ship. Friendly attentive staff. Easy going & Informal
Disadvantages: Overcrowded. Bland, repetitive food. Expensive excursions. Noisy pool area
...living in a home shopping channel TV studio. Suddenly it was "Diamonique Hour", then "Swarovski Day", etc, etc.
We found the excursions in general good, but quite over priced when compared to local alternatives.
It is worth pointing out that we took the Shopping Spree excursion in Tunisia which was ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL and was nothing like the description in the action ashore brochure. In the end we got 40 minutes (not 3 hours) to ourselves to do some shopping, the rest of the time our dodgy tour guy took us to pre-arranged "sales presentations". We were very unhappy with this, particularly with Ocean Villages dishonest description of the tour and their rude (and quite frankly embarrassing) action ashore "manager" who was screaming to us over the reception desk when we complained.
The sun deck area was very cramped, full of screaming kids...

Ocean Villiage sails past competitors
Advantages: Great food, great people, great activities
Disadvantages: Shame about the entertainment, and Tunisia!
...Although I'm only 21, I love to cruise. People say to me, "aren't you a little young to be cruising, isn't it really formal?" Well, NO! Ocean Village is "the cruise for people who don't do cruises". Formal is literally thrown over board on this liner.
I've cruised the Caribbean twice before with the very impressive Royal Caribbean. So Ocean Village and the Med had a lot to live up to! I booked the stay and cruise option in June 2003 for my boyfriend and I. We spent the first week at Cala D'or gardens (pretty basic and average food) and then the second week on the Palaces and Paella itinerary (I believe the name has changed now).
I booked the holiday with Fast Track, a company that specialises in cruises. They were doing a special deal, half price for the dates we wanted! I initially booked the lowest grade MM accommodation, but...

Ocean Village Villa`s and Vino`s
Advantages: Everything on board this cruise liner
Disadvantages: Nothing what so ever, unless you are a very fussy person.
...Just returned from the Villa`s and vino`s cruise with Ocean Village 2 and was very very impressed.
First of all I must say after reading certain negative reviews, some people MUST be hard to please. They have criticised the food, which both my wife and I thought was wonderful, plentiful and a choice to please all, except a certain few who must be the most hard to please of people. In fact, some have criticised most the ship had to offer. If it`s fantastic food with a great choice, great trips on offer and great friendly service, don't book an Ocean village tour, go to your Benidorms instead. Some folk just moan for moanings sake.
This cruise was our first, it was our pearl wedding anniversary and we did not want any formal evenings with the Captain etc, we just wanted to wear casual all through the week, and that's what Ocean Village...

Ocean Village - Med 13-20.7.04
Advantages: Visits to various resorts
Disadvantages: Cost of organised tours
...had about 45 mins in each resort - it would have been good to have more time to explore more. Overall though, excellent; we booked 2 weeks prior to departure, got an outside cabin with full ocean views on P deck so really near to Village Square. We could join in activities or have quiet time no problem. Value for money as price for Cruise and Stay more than half that stated in original OV brochure. Hope to do the Caribbean with OV soon!!...

A Room with a View!
Advantages: Great food and new places to see everyday.
Disadvantages: Hectic getting on and off the ship in port.
...Ocean Village is part of the Carnival Cruise line, by the end of 2010 its ships will have moved to P&O Austaralia where the cruise market is expected to rise. The crusie tagets the 30-40 yeard old market and families.
Ocean Village market themselves as the ?Cruise for People who Don?t do Cruises?. Feeling that as a family we would feel restricted on a traditional cruise line we decided to take our first steps into the world of cruising using Ocean Village. We travelled on the original Ocean Village but they also have another ship called Ocean Village two which is a bit newer but very similar in size.
One week cruising in the Mediterranean was booked and the anticipation mounted. We booked flights with Ocean rather than booking independently for peace of mind. This proved very useful as our flight was delayed by several hours so...

The Village
Advantages: Atmosphere. Well produced - Escapist
Disadvantages: Story line too unrealistic for me
...Last week I came across one of those special offers in HMV (4 DVds for £20). It was end of the season sale and I picked up a film called "The Village" just to make up the numbers. It struck me as being some sort of clichéd horror film from the blurb on the cover and I didn't expect to be watching it in the very near future. But it was one of those DVDs that keep popping up every time I looked through my shelf of dozens of other unwatched movies. Well the other evening, it popped up again and I just put it in the machine without giving it too much thought. As I wasn't in the mood for thinking anyway, it would probably be an ideal film.
As we got into the film, enter the monster, well, a glimpse of it. It was supposed to be scaring me but even my wife, who makes me jump out of my skin with her sudden screams in scary movies, remained...
