...Well, having read one other review not reccomending Ocean Village at all ... I thought I would share my view. Being a travel agent I was lucky enough so spend a Week on Ocean Village in October, Sailing the Med for a week. Well.. I think it was fantastic. Which just about sum's it up! However, I do agree with the fact that upon arrival at the Docks in Palma that last thing you want is a picture being taken - though it is of upmost importance if you want you ID card for the ship, you are unable to get on without so!! Go grin and bear it guys! We boarded around 12 miday and went stright to the pleasure deck as out cabins were not ready till 3pm, which was slightly aggravating as I needed a jolly good wash... , but top deck we had a loverly BBQ going, lovely burgers, potaotoes, salads... which we happily munched till we could...

Ocean Village

...We went on our first cuise last October and used Ocean Village as it is not considered a 'posh' one. We chose a two week one and sailed the Eastern and Western Mediterranian. You don't have to dress up if you don't want to and we found the cruise PERFECT. From the start leaving Manchester airport to Palma the travelling went very well with no delays and we were never kept waiting anywhere, the coach journey to the ship was great. When boarding we were upgraded free of charge and we were very pleased with the cabin, plenty of room with ammeneties ( we had an outside cabin, no balcony, deck 8). I defy anyone who says something bad about the food, there was everything you could think of available and served correctly ie hot was hot. There was so much choice that the first few days we did 'stuff' ourselves! but then we calmed down...

Ocean Village 2 Week Cruise around the Med

Advantages: Great informal setting. Very helpful staff and very relaxing

...Well, its hard to know where to start. Right from the beginning is a good bet I think. I will try to be as honest as possible on all aspects of the cruise. We booked a 2 week cruise and flew from Newcasle on 9th May 2006. The flight was a little cramped but then again its only for a couple of hours. We flew with Thomas Cook airlines and arrived in Palma in the evening. The first thing to hit you was the heat. It was 8c in Newcastle and in Palma it was hitting 25c. Everything went very well and ran smoothly. One little thing. Its a 15 minute walk to reclaim your cases at Palma airpost, therefore, if you have walking difficulties speak to the rep and get a buggy ride to the baggage reclaim area. Once you have collected your bags you will be met by an Ocean Village Rep who directs your to a fleet of busses ready and waiting to take your...

Review of Ocean Village Cruise

Ocean Village 2 - 14 day cruise.

Advantages: The crew/staff are fantastic, mostly islands are great and a spotless ship.
Disadvantages: The entertainment is generally crap. We deserved better.

...6th April 2008. Ian Dickson. Ipswich. Just returned from 2 weeks on the Ocean Village 2 cruising the Caribbean on their Sugar and Spice / Coral Calypso cruise. The flight across with First Choice Airways was good although the aircraft (Boeing767) was replaced with a Thompson one through technical fault. No delays though and a good flight with 33 inches seat pitch so lots of leg room. The cruise: The ship is spotlessly clean, the crew 1st class in every way. The food is good but severely biased towards Asian/Indian/Chinese with not a lot of British food on offer. The cabins are good and big enough without being spacious. Lots of storage space - much more than a typical holiday hotel room. The shower etc is fine. The decks get crowded on the sea days and if you want a decent spot to sit together you MUST get up on deck...

Ocean Village Two - Villas & Vineyards, July 2007

Advantages: Modern, Clean Ship. Friendly attentive staff. Easy going & Informal
Disadvantages: Overcrowded. Bland, repetitive food. Expensive excursions. Noisy pool area

...the average. Of course there were a few people wandering around looking like they are in Butlins but then again Ocean Village really is "Butlins on Sea". We had quite a few encountered with rough Sea, the ship handled the water quite well from a stability perspective but one thing with was quite annoying was in the cabins: the ceiling was a suspected ceilings as as the boat rocked as twisted there was lots of creaking noises which kept me awake one night, but generally nothing to worry about. There is also a Laundry on board which we used one time which was free, again no hassle in there. Just on point though, if you would like to iron anything, there are only 3 irons on board the ship, only 2 of which were working. So, if you would like to iron a shirt for the evening, don't leave it until late, otherwise you'll be queuing for sometime. Overall...

  Ocean Villiage sails past competitors

Advantages: Great food, great people, great activities
Disadvantages: Shame about the entertainment, and Tunisia!

...about 10 10p slot machines, and various other machines at 10p, 20p, and 50p a go. There were often big winners, but it never seemed to happen to me! On the other side are the tables, including roulette, blackjack. It's fun to watch, but a bit beyond my limit and £2 minimum bets! The only advice I can offer here is to bring lots of cash, as the casino only accepts sterling pounds, and not your cruise card. Moviedrome Very impressive! They showed the latest films out at the cinema for all tastes. I found it to be much more comfortable than a 'real' cinema. The only thing is Ocean Village has a tendency to put the air conditioning up a little high so take a jumper! Day Entertainment Gym and Karma Spa I only used the gym once, far too energetic for me! There are 2 gyms on the ship, the big one is located in the Bayside Night Club area...

Ocean Village Villa`s and Vino`s

Disadvantages: Nothing what so ever, unless you are a very fussy person.

...is about. We arrived just after one pm and waited until 3pm for our cabin allocation. We had cabin 10115 with a window, plenty of room and drawer space, more than enough for both of us. We went for something to eat and was amazed by the choice of different dishes, whatever you wanted was most likely to be on the menu. We used the evening to mooch around the ship and settled later in the Casbah bar, we got chatting to another couple of similar age and spent a good evening with them. The staff are extremely friendly and cannot do enough for you. My next vacation shall be onboard Ocean Village....

Ocean Village is DEFINATELY NOT FULL BOARD!

...Full board is far from the truth. I've been on a dozen cruises and have never had to pay for basic soft drinks, and supplemental charges for all the other 3 restaurants. Plantation was great food, but after eating there every day for a week became old. The entire cruise is one long commercial, with practically every show (like the 'cook off') and the 'art show' and the 'fine gem show' basically formed to sell you more crap. The entertainment was mediocre at best. The ship was incredibly overloaded and just to get a sun chair, you had to get out before 9 am each day, and even then over half were taken by 'towel markers'...idiots that threw a towel down to get a chair, then went on an all day excursion while the poor soles on board couldn't find a chair. The ship was very clean, but should be considering it was only a couple...

A Room with a View!

Advantages: Great food and new places to see everyday.
