It's like a friday night down my local
Advantages: great all round entertaining movie
Disadvantages: none really... (apart from one or two 'iffy' scenes)
...Director: George A. Romero
Producers: Karl Hardman and Russel Streiner
Writers: George A. Romero, John A. Russo
Stars: Duane Jones, Judith O'Dea, Karl Hardman, Marilyn Eastman, Keith Wayne, Judith Ridley and Kyra Schon
Released in late 1968, this hour and a half movie depicted the world after something, possibly radiation from a damaged space probe, spreads through the population, turning people into flesh eating Zombies?
* BRIEF PLOT
In a remote farmhouse in Pennsylvania a young lady named Barbra, (played by Judith O'Dea) is taking refuge after running for her life from a grey faced man who tried to kill her in a graveyard?
When she realise the full horror of the situation, as she finds some horrific sights within the building, she tries to run from the oncoming mob of Zombies, only to be rescued by Ben, (played by...

My top ten sites
Advantages: Some good ways to earn extra cash
Disadvantages: I spend too much time on the internet!
...Here are my top ten sites, some are useful the others are just for fun. In no particular order:
1) Facebook: I check this pretty much every day although I don't often post pictures or update my profile as I don't often have much to add! I use it mostly for the Groups feature as I am currently preparing to go to the Edinburgh Fringe festival this summer with a show called 'How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse' so I am often posting on the Wall for this group under my character name Judy O'Dea. It's also a really useful site for organising events and contacting groups of friends easily.
2) Gmail: This is the best email site I have ever used and have been using it for about 3 years now with no problems. I've found that I get very little junk mail which was always a problem with hotmail.
3) Ciao: A review site with quite a lively community...

Run, The Zombies
Advantages: Influential and a great watch.
Disadvantages: Dated there are better zombie movies out there these days.
....
The entire cast in the film had no film experience which made the performance of Judith O'Dea as Barbra even more brilliant. The acting for the most part is good but O'Dea's performance definitely stood out.
The DVD is also a good by particulary because it has the original black and white movie and it has the film in colour as well. I would recommend watching the black and white version it seems to make the special effects slightly better. Obviously the film had no chance of using the mind blowing special effects we see today, but for a 1968 b-movie they are pretty good.
Overall, I think this film is an excellent watch not just because of its influence on many of todays films, but because it is entertaining and is genuinely scary....

This is where it all began
Advantages: THE classic definitive zombie movie. A legendary must-see for zombie fans
Disadvantages: None
...Starring:
Duane Jones as Ben
Judith O'Dea as Barbra
Karl Hardman as Harry Cooper
This 1968 classic is the venerable daddy of the modern zombie movie. If you liked 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Day of the Dead', or even 'Shaun of the Dead', this is where it all started.
Written and directed by George Romero as his first full-length feature film and made on a shoestring budget using unknown actors and his own friends and acquaintances as the cast, this grisly movie was released to shocked reactions amongst cinema audiences. At the time of its release, the film ratings we have today were not yet in existence, and small children were allowed in to see it. I was one of those small children, and it gave both me and my best friend who went with me, nightmares for weeks! Nowadays, it's rated 18!
The film depicts a young man and woman, Johnny...

Away with the Faeries
Advantages: rich in Irish folklore, great cast
Disadvantages: only the R1 release has the original voices and soundtrack intact
...magic onscreen though lies with Jimmy O'Dea (King Brian). Oh, he makes for a wonderful little rogue and the interplay between himself and Albert Sharpe is truly magical. And speaking of magical..the special effects were so top of the line for 1959 that they stand up exceedingly well today, right up to the point that the techniques used inspired many of the effects seen in the recent Lord of the Rings films. Particular scenes to watch out for in this regard involve the banshee and the death coach (and if watching with children be warned, it's pretty scary).
I just wish I could heap as much praise on the DVD release. Both the region 1 and Region 2 DVD releases at first glance seem identical. That is, the prints were not returned to their original wide screen aspect ratio and have no extras or anything, just the movie. But I am going to tell...

Flesh-eating zombies....
Advantages: Well-built suspense, compelling enough story
Disadvantages: Very dated, some wooden acting
...much prefer it Asian-style - that is, minus zombies. However, I received a free copy of this film and knowing that it has become somewhat of a cult classic over the years, couldn't resist giving it a go. As it is nearly 40 years old, it is very dated, but it isn't all bad and I spent an enjoyable hour and a half or so watching it.
The film was clearly made on a budget - this is obvious from the standard of the actors, most of whom give a pretty pathetic attempt at being terrified to death by the group of marauding zombies. Best of a bad bunch is Duane Jones, who plays Ben, the only character with whom it is really possible to feel any great sympathy. Even so, he struggles with the often weak lines and the poor performance of the other characters. Barbra (Judith O'Dea) goes into a more or less catatonic state the moment she reaches...

Happy families...
Advantages: Powerful; atmospheric; brilliant characters
Disadvantages: Chorus get a bit long-winded at times
...? we feel their pain, we see their dilemmas, we feel pity and fear for them, which in the opinion of Aristotle is crucial to a good tragedy. You are drawn into the story of these people; the choruses, especially that of the Agamemnon, detail the backstory of the family for you, telling you of the curse on the house of Atreus, and as you see this curse take form before you, and is finally resolved in the only way both Athenians and modern readers would view as just ? in a fair trial.
You can read the Oresteia again and again and see new hidden messages in it every time, see a new facet to an individual?s character. And because of the choral odea detailing the back-story, you don?t even need much knowledge of the basic mythology to get drawn in. And there is much to be learnt from the Oresteia about family. About loyalties within families...

View from a Backpacker
Advantages: Pretty, good at night
Disadvantages: Over-visited, small, mono-centric
.... I have no odea why Bruce Willis bought a house here, but it certainly wasn’t to boogie the night away. There are two big drinks bars/clubs on the front, near the St Charles and they are passable. One has four floors, it is call the Music Club, most imaginitively. Mind you, there is another nightclub with world-class clubbing. If you can find it or pronounce it to a taxi driver. Your best bet for a night out is Jo’s Bar. Head East over ‘the Bridge’ (you will come to realise it is the only one that matters) and keep going straight until you come across the entrance about half a mile up the street. This is a good example of Prague on a backpacker’s budget. 30p a beer and around £1 for an absinth (go easy on them mind). Other places for cheap refreshment in town are hidden from tourists, purposefully. There is...

Odd little thing
Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: Boring
...and Foggy?s geriatric lust for her. As time drew on Compo became the butt of all sorts of violent escapades, with all the media?s attention centring on whether he?d survive this latest escapade and the degradation facing him.
That?s when the magic died and the dross for dross? sake mentality really began?
