Odeon - Liverpool's Number One
Advantages: Good sized screens, great auditoriums, caters for everyone,
Disadvantages: Popcorn sometimes cardboardy, expensive chocolate treats,
...I am a huge cinema fan, and living in the centre of Birmingham for the last couple of years has meant putting up with Odeon Birmingham. Needless to say, I was very happy to discover the brand spanking new Odeon in Liverpool One,
Odeon Liverpool One
Odeon is actually the largest cinema chain in the UK, created by Oscar Deutsch in 1928. Some say that the name comes from Ancient Greek, others say that it comes from the motto Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation.
There are currently... a lot of Odeon cinemas across the UK (I tried to count, but it's a lot!). The website has a cinema finder to help you locate your nearest. For this review I shall be talking about Odeon, Liverpool ONE.
When Liverpool ONE was redeveloped, the city centre Odeon branch was relocated here. The entrance can be found...

Odeon in Kingston Upon Thames
Advantages: large cinema, night screening, many restaurants
Disadvantages: no parking around
...Odeon cinema complex in Kingston Upon Thames is a favourite destination for families, couples, groups and individuals from all over the area/county. It is one of the biggest cinemas around and it has got a choice of restaurants, bars and 12 screens which makes it easier with choosing from current movies.
The complex is orientated oposite the Kingston train station and its short distance to high street. It is busy area and always buzzing. When you walk in through glass door you can either go upstairs using escalator or lift or downstairs.
The ground floor has a restaurant during the day and bar in the night. I think they have got evening restaurant in separate area from tables when youngsters usually drink before hitting the nightclub Oceana next door.
Lower level has got Bowling and other entertainment with bar and fast food...

Maidenhead Odeon Cinema - stay away!!
Advantages: there wasn't any!
Disadvantages: no food or drink, dirty, screens didn't work, didn't show any of the top movies
...we wanted to see.
From the outside, the cinema doesn't seem as impressive or big compared to the Vue cinema I usually go to in Cambridge. We walked through the doors, to find a large, virtually empty room. There was a really old arcade machine to the right, and to the left a small counter where you're meant to buy your tickets. There was no food or drink to be seen, and at the far end of the room was a few doors with numbers above them - obviously being the screen numbers. So at this point, we were both pretty unimpressed by what we saw. However, both wanting to see a movie after our morning swim, we looked up at the two plasma screens above the counter to find out what time our movie was being shown. Guess what? They weren't on! We saw a few other groups of people looking through a booklet with ODEON plastered on the front, so I walked...

Odeon cinema - The Quay
Advantages: modern, clean
Disadvantages: access by road only
...Although located about 2 miles from the city centre, The Quay is in a retail park based around the Odeon cinema, making ideal for city centre visitors without having to pay parking charges.
Ideally located for access from the M8 (eastbound Kinning Park exit), and from the M77.
12 screens, from 89 to 279.
Normally showing between 14 and 18 films, at various times.
Adult tickets are £5, students/children are £3.50.
No further discounts are currently offered (as at 01/06/02).
After entering the foyer, a rather vast servery is available in the centre of the floor.
You are permitted to bring your own food/drinks onto premises.
No alcohol is permitted, and there are no bars/licence.
I have made several visits to this cinema and been in most of the screens, from the small cosy 89 seater to the massive 279 seater. All films...

Martins Guide To Manchester Part 3 - The Odeon
Advantages: The staff were excellent, I see other ops say they are poor butI suppose it's down to your visit experience
Disadvantages: Getting old, may be pulled down.
...Continuing my guide to Manchester, it?s time to look at the entertainment side (well part of it anyway) by looking at the Odeon Cinema in the City Centre. (By the way anything you think I should put in this guide, please let me know.)
Set on Oxford Road, the Odeon is among the oldest cinemas in Manchester still in use today. It has plenty of screens (the exact number escapes me) showing films from early in the day to late at night, with midnight showings at weekends.
The Odeon has stayed popular despite several multiplex cinemas opening nearby at the likes of The Trafford Centre, Didsbury, Belle Vue and the Manchester Evening News Arena. This is due partly to its extremely central location and no doubt in part to the Manchester student population living 5 minutes down the road.

Odeon Cinema - Huddersfield
Advantages: clean, reasonable prices, easy to find and park
Disadvantages: bar needs updating, stupid premier seats
...i agree totally with the other review on the fact that odeon should have updated the cinema. it's a great cinema except for the bar, which is awful. it looks scruffy and dirty and hasn't had anything done since this opened as a UCI.
The rest of it is good though. There is a lot of parking (but always full) and pizza hut and the ropewalk are right next door - great food at the ropewalk!
there is always a good choice of films as you'd expect, but dont go to the preview showings or you'll be waiting ages to get in. the food is typical cinema food, add an extra £2 onto everything. also dont pay for the premier seats. they are like normal seats but with a tiny bit more leg room etc. we were gutted as we thought they were massage seats or something!...

Ken's 90 word challenge - Alas, poor Odeon
Advantages: None - it's shut!
Disadvantages: It's shut!
...It's shut!
Closed!
Nottingham’s Odeon cinema shut its doors for the last time
on January 28th, 2001.
Originally called The Ritz when it opened on December 4th, 1933,
it became Britain's first two screen cinema in July 1965.
Three more screens were added in 1976 and another in 1988.
The first film shown there was "The Private Life of Henry VIII" -
the last was "Castaway".
It succumbed to competition from the out of town Showcase
and Warner Village's multiplex in the newly built Cornerhouse complex.
It will be sadly missed.

Odeon vs UCI vs Warner
Advantages: Cheap and ideally situated
Disadvantages: Tacky decor
...The Odeon, cheap and cheerful. Ideally situated close to the Monument Metro station, or opposite a regular bus service, the Odeon provides value for money with a selection of mostly new films, and comfortable seating. Split into four screens, the Odeon can show four different films at once, normally with the latest blockbuster being packed into the grand Odeon One. The decoration of the place is tacky, but then, you get what you pay for. The seating is comfortable enough for your standard film, but anything like Gladiator or Titanic and you'll be itching yourself all over from the cramped conditions. The food is where the money is, with prices higher than most cinemas in the Newcastle area, with most of it being standard run-of-the-mill grub to boot. However, considering the tickets are cheap, and the setting comfortable, (with a nearby...

The good, old Odeon
Advantages: Friendly, really enjoyable.
Disadvantages: seems to be following the flow of commercialisation...
...For a movie nowadays, large multi screen cinemas are a common place choice for any cinema goers. They all have about eleven top quality, massive screens, restaurants, shops and large food areas, costing yourself a small paycheck. What you pay in there for one visit, is probably more than the employee will receive that week in his pay.
Now, the odeon is a fabourite cinema for many and still incorporates less costs than most for ticket sales and for your viewing snacks. On a recent visit, though I don't go much, I found they were going with the crowd and had had itself refurbished. The prices had rised a little bit but not yet reaching higher prices of, for example, the two ABC cinemas, also in the city.
It only had about six screens but had all of the latest titles. After getting tickets and snacks, me and my friends were directed...

Mediocre Place to watch Movies = Odeon Switch Island
Advantages: Good choice of food and some cheap combination meals.
Disadvantages: Seemingly very unhappy staff.
...Upon first entering the Odeon at Switch Island in Liverpool, it seemed just like any other average Odeon Cinema. And I was right. As in any other Odeon I have been in, the staff appeared mostly moody and bored, and none were over the age of around 20. Their unhappy, drawling voices, as they ask you to fork over your money, I can still hear!
They do have a few good points however. In my experience they have always overloaded my box with popcorn, which is just as well considering the prices! There are some good 'combo's' available though which can cut the costs of your overall visit. There is a Carte D'or ice cream stall in there as well as hotdogs, nachos and giant bags of crisps, chocolate and pick 'n' mix!
Unless you have a car, it is tough to reach. Based on one side of a motorway, there IS a local bus stop but that is at least a 25...
