OUT WITH THE OLD

Advantages: Having a good clear out
Disadvantages: Takes a lot of time and hard work

He decided that we should go up into our loft, as despite having moved in eighteen months ago we had never ventured into the loft space. Whilst up in the loft we found a huge number my boyfriend's grandmothers's nick knacks. Obviously some family members were keen to keep photos and some of the old books, but nests of tables and boxes upon boxes of glassware were added to the car boot fund. Theatre of Dreams - Old Trafford

Advantages: The best team in the world, good facilities

...I have visited Old Trafford twice in 2 seasons now specifically for the United v City Derby. The ground has good transport links to Manchester via Tram, Bus, Car and "Football special" train. Initially I had some reservations about attending the ground for such a "hard fought" fixture, however the reception of fans and organisation was most excellent. I would recommend catching one of 3 special football trains from Manchester Piccadilly (on match days) to get you to the ground in around 10 minutes.... these trains are two commuter style trains that are joined together - arrive totally empty and can generally find space, with some standing, for everyone who is waiting. The train drops you off by the south Stand, which is not far from the away section, major entrances to stands and the club shop. Match days are very well policed...

Old Man of Hoy

Advantages: Beautiful scenery and an unusual natural sight
Disadvantages: Walking is necessary-although that isn't really a disadvantage at all!

...from Stomness (foot passengers only) or from Houton a couple of miles east if you are wanting to take your car. Personally if you do have a car it can be worth taking unless you are prepared for a lot of walking as public transport is scarce. The village of Rackwick is the usual starting off point for a 3 mile walk to the cliffs facing the sea stack itself. This is a really beautiful walk and since there are not roads out to the Old Man of Hoy it is necessary if you want to see the stack. I was told to give 3 hours for the walk there and back but I would not count myself as at all fit (and I'm asthmatic) and it took around 45 minutes each way. The walk is really beautiful as at the start there is a bit of a scramble up one of the hills near a cliff edge and then stunning views over the island, beach and across to the rest of the Orkneys. It is reached by leaving the M1 at junction 29 and then following the brown signs for Hardwick Hall. There is a car park where National Trust and English Heritage members can park for free, otherwise the cost is £2. ...I bought this when I had my baby as it was apparently the best on the market and I really can't find fault with it at all it has been the most reliable of our baby products and can't rate it highly enough. This car seat is different from others as it is suitable for up to 9 months whilst the majority of others are just up to 6 months. The seat is well padded and has a 'head hugger' so it is safer for newborns. This headhugger can then be removed once your baby is big enough. The straps also can be adjusted once your baby grows so that it is still safe and comfortable. The straps are easy to use- at first they were fiddly but once you have the hang of them then you know what you're doing they're easy! once you have strapped your baby in you then pull on the straps to make them tight so that your baby is safetly in place...
