Theatre of Dreams - Old Trafford

Advantages: The best team in the world, good facilities
Disadvantages: Expensive and busy

...I have visited Old Trafford twice in 2 seasons now specifically for the United v City Derby. The ground has good transport links to Manchester via Tram, Bus, Car and "Football special" train. Initially I had some reservations about attending the ground for such a "hard fought" fixture, however the reception of fans and organisation was most excellent. I would recommend catching one of 3 special football trains from Manchester Piccadilly (on match days) to get you to the ground in around 10 minutes.... these trains are two commuter style trains that are joined together - arrive totally empty and can generally find space, with some standing, for everyone who is waiting. The train drops you off by the south Stand, which is not far from the away section, major entrances to stands and the club shop. Match days are very well policed...

Old Trafford, Manchester

Advantages: there's nothing like it !!
Disadvantages: bad rep for atmosphere

...It has been said many times over the years upon the arrival of each new player that ?there?s no better place to play than Old Trafford?. Old Trafford (Cricket), Manchester

Advantages: Atmosphere at key games, facilities
Disadvantages: Lack of covered seating, can feel empty.

It has "test status" which means, according to the ECB (English Cricket Board) it has the facilities, transport links, and crowd capacity to cope with and to execute the hosting of international matches to a high standard. On a "good day" it can take 22,000 people, although generally there are never more than half that many people attending popular matches involving Lancashire, the home county. Old Trafford, The Museum and The Stadium tour

Advantages: everything is perfect, food facilities, very clean

...I visited Old Trafford when I have been to Manchester. I firstly visited the Museum, which is located in the stadium. It is just beside the Manchester supporters' famous café. When you first get in the museum (it is not big at all), you see the model of the stadium. In the next room, you'll see all the cups Manchester won. Especially last premiership cup was very elegant. Also there is a room in the museum, which you can see the 80-90 year old shoes, which were used by famous players decades ago. Also you can watch the old matches. The thing I liked most in the museum was a device, which you can be commentator and tell the match. Firstly the real commentator shows you how to tell the match and gives you the player numbers and names. Afterwards you are telling match, and device is recording your voice with microphone. 5 star stadium

Advantages: Fantastic atmosphere
Disadvantages: none

...Old Trafford is home to Manchester United, one of the best teams in the world. The capacity of the stadiums is about 76,000. It is has a 5 star UEFA rating (strict criteria, including security, TV facilities, pitch size, etc), just like Hampden Park and Ibrox stadium in Glasgow. This rating is the football equivalent of a 5 star rating for hotels. The facilities at Old Trafford are first class. The travel access is very good with rail access as well as good road access. Obviously, after a game, the transport is a bit slow, but that is to be expected for any big stadium due to the large numbers all leaving at the same time. The food stalls are decent with some queues, but normally when I go to Old Trafford, I only have to wait about 10 minutes. They have a good selection of savouries and drinks, but no scotch pies, which is a shame...

It truly is the Theatre of Dreams!

Advantages: Great atmosphere, great club, great stadium

...Old Trafford is home to Manchester United, who is one of the best teams in the world. The stadium has a massive capacity of roughly 76,000 and is one of the biggest stadiums in the world! I am very lucky to have seen Manchester United play some games at Old Trafford and have probably seen about 10 different games. Old Trafford is nicknamed the "Theatre of Dreams" and is a brilliant stadium. I think the atmosphere is amazing and when a goal is scored you see a sea of red of all ages jumping up and down in joy. Most of the fans sing songs and football chants and if everyone is shouting the noise is phenomenal. This happened in a match I saw recently where Ronaldo scored a brilliant free kick against Blackburn! The ticket prices are quite expensive for adults around £30 - £50 but kids are incredibly cheap at only £10! Outside...

Inside the Theatre of Dreams

Advantages: An attraction full of history, enthusiastic and informed tour guides, not expensive
Disadvantages: I can't think of any, but if you support Manchester City you may disagree ;-)

I had never heard of this terrible event before and reading about it strengthened the feelings I had for the club, and took my admiration of the team, and of Sir Matt Busby and Sir Bobby Charlton in particular to new levels. There was also the incredible feeling of sadness for the players lost that day ? in particular the prodigious talent that was Duncan Edwards. I had always dreamed of going to see Manchester United play at Old Trafford, and I remember my father saying he would take me, but the logistics were never quite right, and it is to my eternal regret that we never did this. Review of Old Trafford Museum & Stadium Tour, Manchester

Trafford Spender!

Advantages: Wide range of shops, plenty of places to eat, easily accessible by Public transport
Disadvantages: Can get very busy, especially in the school Holidays & at Xmas

...I remember the day when the Trafford Centre - one of the largest shopping centres in Europe, opened. There I was, stood outside this magnificent building that looked far too posh to be a shopping centre, hoping that the shops inside wouldn't be all designer and that I would be able to afford to buy something from there. I'm lucky really - the Trafford Centre (from now on I will refer to it as the TC) is literally 5 minutes drive away from my house - and 2 minutes away from where I work. THe THEATRE OF DREAMS

Advantages: Well laid out
