Advantages: Funny, clean humour that stands the test of time.
Disadvantages: Absolutely none!

...How do you define the funniest double act of all time? It's easy really, what you have here is good old fashioned humour that doesn't involve sex, swearing or phoning an old man to boast about having sex with his grand-daughter. You can keep all you modern "so called" humour and flush it where it belongs. Laurel & Hardy despite their lack of the above mentioned "humour" have managed to do something that only modern comedians can dream about. They kept the world laughing consistently for years and have continued to do so 60 years after their deaths. I don't know any modern "great" that I'd remember and still be talking about in a year if he disappeared today. There is one exception and I just did a review on that yesterday, but even so, it's still worlds apart. The box set is presented in a nice box with the Laurel & Hardy...

Oliver!

Advantages: Wonderful casting, could see it again and again.
Disadvantages: Some seats, not having a great view.

...Oliver! We went to see the matinee performance Wednesday 21st Jan at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, what a show! Just get the tube to Covent Garden, walk through the market straight out the back of the market and the theatre is right in front of you. We paid £37-50 each for our tickets in the stalls, which I had brought back in April 08. Our seats where row Y 1 - 3. When booking it did not say that they are limited views, anyone from row W - X - Y and further back would have a job to see the top view of the set. We had to dip our heads to see what was going on on the upper level of the stage and at times quiet disappointing, the rows behind us must have found it even worse and there where another six rows behind. The problem being that the overhang from the floor above blocks out the view of the upper scene on the stage. So...

Hardy's Masterpiece

Disadvantages: Some parts are boring, depressing

...'Tess of the D'Urbervilles', one of Hardy's eleven novels, is considered as one of his better works throughout his career as a novelist. The book was first published in 1891 under the name 'A Pure Woman' and received a mixed reception. The book is currently in my English 'A' Level syllabus and with good reason too. From it we can appreciate how important effective characterisation is and obviously we can see how Hardy's views on such topics as fate are communicated through his books. The story is set in the bleak and forbidding Dorset landscape (South West England), referred to as 'Wessex' (this was actually the name used for the Ancient Anglo Saxon kingdom of King Alfred) in the novel.
