My Review of the Olympus Camedia C-460 Zoom

Advantages: Easy to use if I can use it
Disadvantages: No Rechargeable Batteries

...The Olympus Camedia C-460 Zoom: My Review for the Olympus C-460 :) I got the Olympus Camedia C-460 from Curry's, I paid about £170 for it. I was very cheeky and said "what do I get if I buy it from here" they asked me what did I mean and told them "I wanted a bigger memory card free" after a bit of haggling I got the 512 meg card for a £10, They was selling them for £30. If you don't ask you will never know, I got a pc for a friend from Comet about 2 years ago and got them a printer free :) I got home and the first thing i found as with a lot of cameras etc was no batteries. Why or why do they just not put the price up by £10 and add the rechargeable packs? Lets get on with it....The box is nice and has loads of information on it. Disadvantages: None.

...I received this as a Christmas present in 2003. My dad is a keen photographer and recommended Olympus as a good make when I was on the lookout for a digital camera. It was priced at around £180 depending on where you bought it, which was about average for a non-professional digital camera at the time. My mum bought it for me in a larger Boots store (on a triple points day, I think). It's easy to just plug it into your PC with the special USB wire, though I would recommend a card reader because plugging the camera in for too long drains battery supply as it doesn't run straight from the computer. Get recharable batteries, for your purse and for the enviroment! I got the Olympus recharger with the camera. I don't know whether this only came with my camera as an extra gift or if it comes with the camera anyway. The slots for the memory card and batteries are brilliant because in a few seconds you can change batteries or change card, not like with some cameras which have covers which are hard to open, these open with ease, there is no need to force anything. Overall Look & Design Ok, this camera isnt as sleek and refined as other cheap cameras on the market, but style is not...

Advantages: Nice zoom lens, good picture quality, nice controls, looks pretty good
Disadvantages: Eats batteries! Not too suitable for action photography.

...don't tend to need any adobe photo-shop treatment. Minus points: Boy, does it eat AA batteries!! (4 at a time)- Even with the back screen default set to off, review off and power save on, you have to be ready for the last gasp red battery warning after a couple of hours. I go to airshows quite a lot and for a full day's photography I usually have AT LEAST 16x rechargeable 2300mAh AA cells in my bag! - I would be anxious with any less. For action shots it is less than ideal, due to the almost 3/4 second it takes from pressing the shutter, to the shot being taken. During this delay, the viewfinder goes black. I know this is the case with many compacts, but I kind of expected better performance from Olympus. My only way round this was to set it to take 3 frames continuous, as this does speed up the subsequent metering and shutter time...

...I will write this opinion now before I loose it or break it or do something that typically happens when things are in my care! The C-1 Zoom is perhaps aimed more at the domestic or family user who will buy it to 'snap' pictures for the photo album rather than the those who will want a digital camera for presentation, professional or ultra high resolution images. Firstly the C-1 Zoom comes in a very small box and you certainly don’t get many extras. The packaging includes the camera itself, a usb lead for connection to your PC or Mac, a video lead, 8Mb Smart media card and a non-rechargeable battery which I was not impressed with! Also included is the Cmedia Suite Software CD and a Olympus driver and reference CD along with a comprehensive manual in quite a few languages. I will mention this battery again as I was...

User friendly Olympus Camedia C 725 Ultra Zoom

Advantages: Easy to use & very light
Disadvantages: Poor auto focus & Very heavy battery consumption

...I found the Olympus Camedia C 725 a very easy camera to use, also I liked the small compact memory cards ( M-XD256P XD CARD) which are easily installed into the camera just by pushing into the memory card slot. I did notice that the auto focus mode was very poor and that you had to take 3 or 4 shots of a subject to get a clear crisp image, although having a large memory card did compensate for this problem. I also found that the camera was unbelievably heavy on battery consumption to the point of having to change the 4AA battteries before filling 2 thirds of the memory card (with view panel turned off), the only option to solve this problem is to have 8 rechargeable batteries on hand. The design of the camera is very user friendly although the quality feels cheap, I found the hinges to the panel for the computer cable socket had...

...several preset set-ups for various types of photo, such as scenes, portraits, night shots etc. The camera has a nice feel to it and is not so small that hands get in the way. The camera comes with a disappointing 16MB storage card, which means that in the highest recording TIFF mode it will only store one frame, however this is up to 76 frames in the lowest JPEG recording mode. There are available 128MB cards, which are about £45. You can get none Olympus cards slightly cheaper, but these do not accommodate the panorama feature offered by the camera. It also comes with 4 AA batteries, which I soon found lasted about a day and so I invested in a set of chargeable batteries and a fast 1 hour charger (£30). The lens cover is a bit plasticy and has to be removed before switching the camera on, which I don?t always remember to do...
