Olympus E-30. Still not up there with the big boys?
Advantages: Fold out LCD screen, Image Stabilization, Zuiko lens quality, Picture quality, Flash options
Disadvantages: Noise in low light, Too many buttons, Badly laid out, Too many gimmicks
...The E-30 is Olympus's own stepping-stone between the so-called "prosumer" models (what an awful word) and the E-3 professional SLR, being loosely comparable with the likes of the Canon EOS 50D, the Nikon D90 and the Sony Alpha A-350. It shares a lot of the E-3's features and has even overtaken the E-3 in terms of resolution, offering 12mp compared with the E-3's 10.
Unfortunately - or fortunately, depending on your opinion - some of its features are things that serious photographers don't really want on their cameras and definitely push the E-30 towards the hobby photographers rather than the professionals.
The E-30 doesn't share the E-3's weatherproof casing, in fact it is built from a plastic/fibre-glass composite material, which helps to keep the weight down and, surprisingly to me, doesn't make it feel cheap.
It does look...

Olympus EVOLT E-410. A little SLR for a little price
Advantages: Small, Light, Inexpensive, Easy menus and options
Disadvantages: Manual/Auto focus switching is awkward and can not accommodate macro rings
...One of the first things you notice about the Olympus E-410 is that it is not much bigger or heavier than some zoom cameras, being dwarfed by the Canon EOS 50D that I have purchased since. The body measures 130mm x 91mm x 53mm and wieghs in at around 420g (including battery), making it the smallest, lightest digital SLR at the time of release.
This has obvious advantages when carrying and holding the camera for handheld shots, which was great for a newcomer, but some seasoned Canon or Nikon users might find it a little too small - especially those who are used to grip attachments. My kit came with a wide neck-strap, which makes carrying the camera a doddle but it does have a tendency to tilt forward when the 150mm lens is fitted, making it more awkward.Being so light also makes it a little more susceptible to wind movement than my...

Olympus E500
Advantages: Superb quality Photo's
Disadvantages: Increased noise at high ISO's
...I've owned an Olympus E500 for two years now and can only say good things about it!
I've found it takes superb photos at a very high quality. It sits comfortably in the hand, and has a nice weight to it, something which can be lacking in some of the other models on the market. The only slight draw back is the level of noise when shooting at high ISO's, typically above 500. However this isn't an issue most of the time.
The level of available lenses and accessories is more than adequate for the typical user. The interface on the camera is logical and easy to navigate.
I recently took it travelling with me on a gap year, and looking through my photos on getting home I felt like I was back in all the places I'd visited!
A very good camera capable of taking superb quality photos! A very good choice!...

Olympus E410 at their best, as usual
Advantages: weight, all the cables you need, battery life, lenses quality
Disadvantages: editing software needs to be purchased
...want to do with them. If is just for small screen TV?s or your laptop/desktop and you don?t want to spend a little fortune on editing software, keep on Jpeg format and SHQ will make wonders. If by the other hand, you are like me a photomaniac you want the best from your E-410 and you will go for the RAW format. The software that comes with the camera is reasonable but can?t understand why I have to pay for Olympus product. Other excellent packages are available with better quality and for the same price (i.e. ACDsee). If you decide to purchase this kind of software, make sure it recognizes ORF extension as not all of them it will. This is definitely a down side for this product.
The colour display on the back gives you what you will get on the card but obviously in a lower definition, don?t you worry if you can?t se the photo very clear, it...

olympus e-510
Advantages: good photos quality, value for money
Disadvantages: software, catching focus in dim light
...This is my first DSLR, so I can compare it only to compact cameras I used.
Picture quality is really excellent; it's very fast (it's also important to but a fast memory card, otherwise it might be a bottleneck).
The only bit I can complain about is the software coming with the camera: olympus master 2 - it stops working from time (consuming 100% CPU) to time and I have to restart it.
Another issue worth to mention is that this camera has a problem getting focus when the scene you want to shoot is not very well lit.
It also comes with 2 sets of high quality kit lens. You also need to remember buying it, that unlike many other DSLRs, which shoot photos in 3:2 format, this one shoots them in 4:3 format, but it shouldn't be a problem nowadays when you want to print it at a studio....

Olympus E-510 10mp Digital slr Camera
Advantages: Quality, Functions, Easy to use, Price
Disadvantages: have to purchase olympus memory card to use panoramic
...Olympus E-510 10mp digital Slr camera 10MP
Price: £350-£550 (Highstreet winner on price - Jessops)
This is a great camera for both amateur & professional photographers, for those who like quality & variety at a great price then you can't go wrong with this piece of kit which is not only functional but is very easy to use.
You can use this camera straight from the box, it took me about an hour to become familiar with the many functions & settings but pretty easy to take a great shot every time.
For all of you ebay fanatics this camera has an auction function which automatically saves the picture for use in such a situation as well as giving you the choice of 3 images to choose from (the same image but with differences to the brightness/contrast, tone etc. this can save you hours on preparing web friendly images.
The camera...

Olympus - the peak of cameras
Advantages: Superb Quality
Disadvantages: Expensive and big compared to the compacts
...1 A Tough Market
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Olympus has a long history of brilliant cameras and lenses.
It finds itself in a tough world as far as digital SLR cameras are concerned.
The other big names - Nikon and Canon, have a huge section of the market already. Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and Pentax are eager rivals, but Olympus is determined not to get left behind.
Their E series, and especially their latest models, are crossing new frontiers and making ground against the other firms.
2 General Features
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Let's take a minute to note what the E-400 has in common with the other SLRs that you might contemplate.!
The benefit of a Single Lens Reflex camera has always been that what you see through the viewfinder, is what you are going to get in your photograph.
A mirror reflects what is coming through the lens...

The Olympus E410 is my ideal camera.
Advantages: Light weight for a dSLR; excellent image quality.
Disadvantages: Fiddly to operate while wearing mountaineering gloves!
...I've owned an Olympus E410 for a year now. When I got it I was very impressed with the compact size, light weight and capabilities. I found it easy to use, straight out of the box, for taking basic shots. Sometimes I got stuck in the menus when trying to do something different, and had to refer to the printed guide book, finding it easy to find the relevant information.
Later, I sat down down and read through the manual with the camera in hand, soon getting to grips with all the features I wanted to use.
Connecting the camera to my laptop via the bundled Olympus Master software, I was pleased to see the greatly improved clarity of enlargements over ones from my already good Olympus compact digital camera.
I am a keen hillwalkerand photographer, and the small size and light weight of the E410 suits me very well. It should...

Olympus E500 Digital SLR camera
Advantages: Light weight, good range of functions, dust reduction system.
Disadvantages: Only just adequate in low light conditions.
...I bought this camera around 18 months ago and have found it to be reliable so far. The 'dust shake' mechanism that activates when you switch it on helps prevent dust build-up on the sensor which has to be a major plus point.
This is my first digital slr although I am familiar with film slr cameras and, also, basic compact digital cameras. I found that the transition to more advanced digital photography relatively simple with the E500.
The E500 is fairly light to carry but not so light that it impinges on the ingegrity of the camera. The photographer is in control of complexity of use:from fully manual to automatic with useful priority modes in between. There are also 'scene' modes......effictively automatic settings which are tailored to very particular situations eg.'Night and Portrait' and 'Beach or snow'. I have also found...
