Olympus E-30. Still not up there with the big boys?

Of course, being a small 4:3 sensor with a high resolution, you have to expect noise problems at low light - it comes with the territory. Also, the versatility of the 4:3 system is limited by having no body-independant Auto/Manual focus switching on the lenses. The external flash sync port is something that the lesser Olympus models don't have and the built-in flash can act as a trigger for the Olympus wireless flash system when in Remote mode. Olympus EVOLT E-410. A little SLR for a little price

Advantages: Small, Light, Inexpensive, Easy menus and options
Disadvantages: Manual/Auto focus switching is awkward and can not accommodate macro rings

...I've owned an Olympus E500 for two years now and can only say good things about it! I've found it takes superb photos at a very high quality. It sits comfortably in the hand, and has a nice weight to it, something which can be lacking in some of the other models on the market. The only slight draw back is the level of noise when shooting at high ISO's, typically above 500. However this isn't an issue most of the time. The level of available lenses and accessories is more than adequate for the typical user. The interface on the camera is logical and easy to navigate. I recently took it travelling with me on a gap year, and looking through my photos on getting home I felt like I was back in all the places I'd visited! Olympus E410 at their best, as usual

Advantages: weight, all the cables you need, battery life, lenses quality
Disadvantages: editing software needs to be purchased

...I bought this beauty over a year now, Shouldn't be surprised as it is an Olympus and this should tell all. It comes as a two lenses package, 14-42 and 40-150. As usual Zuiko lenses are on the top quality, excellent light rating 3.5-3.6 and 4-5.6 respectively. Extensive menus that will take you some time to get used to and to explore. Once you get the grip on the settings and how to use them to your way, these menus will become intuitive and easier to use as everything is on its place. You can save the pictures, on jpeg SQ, HQ, SHQ and on ORF as RAW. You have still the option for RAW + SQ which will save two pictures one in Jpeg and another in ORF (ORF stands for Olympus Raw Format). Advantages: good photos quality, value for money

...This is my first DSLR, so I can compare it only to compact cameras I used. Picture quality is really excellent; it's very fast (it's also important to but a fast memory card, otherwise it might be a bottleneck). The only bit I can complain about is the software coming with the camera: olympus master 2 - it stops working from time (consuming 100% CPU) to time and I have to restart it. Another issue worth to mention is that this camera has a problem getting focus when the scene you want to shoot is not very well lit. It also comes with 2 sets of high quality kit lens. You also need to remember buying it, that unlike many other DSLRs, which shoot photos in 3:2 format, this one shoots them in 4:3 format, but it shouldn't be a problem nowadays when you want to print it at a studio....

The Olympus E410 is my ideal camera.

Advantages: Light weight for a dSLR; excellent image quality.
Disadvantages: Fiddly to operate while wearing mountaineering gloves!

...suit others who want a good quality camera without the encumbrance of size and weight of other models. The E410 uses the 4 thirds format, which I find ideal for most of my shots, mostly mountains and seascapes. Being an SLR, it takes interchangeable lenses, and a wide variety of focal length, zoom, aperture and of course price is available from Olympus. My prefernce is for the versatile and lightweight 14-42mm lens that came with the kit, equivalent to 28-84mm on a 35mm film camera. In factI have not yet purchased a longer lens as most of my shots are taken at 14mm widish angle to fit the mountains in. In my opinion it is worth getting an SLR even you don't plan to use interchangeable lenses, at least at first. The quality and variety of lenses available for SLRs is often much better than fitted to compact digital cameras that cost...

Olympus E500 Digital SLR camera

Advantages: Light weight, good range of functions, dust reduction system.
Disadvantages: Only just adequate in low light conditions.

The 'dust shake' mechanism that activates when you switch it on helps prevent dust build-up on the sensor which has to be a major plus point. This is my first digital slr although I am familiar with film slr cameras and, also, basic compact digital cameras. I found that the transition to more advanced digital photography relatively simple with the E500. The E500 is fairly light to carry but not so light that it impinges on the ingegrity of the camera.
