Fuji F480 - NOISE CITY
Review of Fujifilm FinePix F480 by
5Portions
Advantages: Small & Stylish, Wide-Angle, Dual card-slot.
Disadvantages: Poor picture quality; chromatic abberation, noise, no manual controls.
...off that one.
Now, as well as Fuji's F480, Olympus have released the wide-angle FE-290 with near-identical looks and spec.
To get to the point -I've only had this F480 for a couple of days but I've managed to take some pretty apalling shots. Noise and purple fringeing seem to be out of control. An indoor auto flash pic taken in daytime with fair light produced the most astounding noise. At ISO 100 and using a tripod for an indoor shot without flash, the noise was reduced but still there.
When (if!) we get some sun I'll try a more varied selection of shots -but I'm expecting some pretty comical levels of chromatic abberation!
Exposure compensation is available in scene selection 'manual' only.
So you can't apply it to any other scene type like 'image stabilisation'.
I wouldn't be surprised if 'Image Stabilisation' mode simply boosts...

My Review of the Olympus Camedia C-460 Zoom
Review of Olympus CAMEDIA C 460ZOOM by
the_enlightened_one
Advantages: Easy to use if I can use it
Disadvantages: No Rechargeable Batteries
..., and if god forbids you loose it, the nice person who finds it enters the information by email and you are supposed to be contacted etc. Seems a great idea but would people of today be honest enough to do it ?
Two batteries where included in the box, but they lasted all of 15 minuets. This is why rechargeable batteries are a must!
The camera itself is a sexy silver little item, it measures 10.5cm in length, and is 4.5cm in width, and stands at 6cm in height. Turn the Olympus C-460 around so the back is facing you and you can see a viewfinder and a LCD screen to the left and 6 buttons. The buttons are for moving around the onscreen menus. There are two buttons on the top of the camera, one is a zoom lever and the other is the main shutter button. When the batteries have been inserted, you operate the Olympus C-460 by moving the lens barrier...

Silver medal winner
Review of Olympus CAMEDIA C 1 by
cjkace
Advantages: Compact, lens cover, good power consumption
Disadvantages: Software won`t recognise it, `snowy` pictures
...I was hunting around for a decent digital camera in the £200 - £300 category, when browsing through the missus`s catalogue I noticed the Olympus C1 USB. After reading the specs, I decided to go ahead and buy it.
The camera is silver coloured and quite light (you have to remember it`s in your pocket) and has a built in flash BUT no optical zoom features. It connects to the PC via a supplied USB cable and installation of the drivers in Win98/XP is very painless. The camera is powered up by sliding the lens cover to onside, and after a couple of seconds it`d rady to use.
I`ve found it to take very reasonable pictures, but at high quality resolution (when viewing at 1:1 on my PC) I have noticed that the pictures have a `snowy` effect. Once they`ve been reduced in size this disappears, but it`s a little irksome. This cannot be seen...

All weather Camera
Review of Olympus µ[MJU:] 750 by
judepaw
Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: A bit pricey
...T he Olympus Mju 750 is an all weather compact camera for well exposed images day or night in all conditions. It is available in Silver or Black with a 7.1 mega pixel resolution, plus a 5x optical zoom.
The camera has the following features
7.1 million pixels
5x Optical Zoom
5.6 Digital Zoom
Large 2.5 LCD Screen
Weather proof metal body
Dual Image Stabilisation
Bright Capture Technology
23 Scene modes
Xd- Picture card slot
Supplied with Olympus Master Software
The lens is equivalent to ( 36-180mm) A longer zoom means the camera is liable to camera shake, thus blurring the images. This is avoided by dual image stabilisation to prevent this from happening.
Photos are stored on the 17MB internal memory, which only allows just five snaps. So an xd- picture card is a necessity.
The camera weighs 120g and has a tapered curve...

A stylish little camera
Review of Olympus µ[MJU:] 400 Digital by
hays298
Advantages: small, light and stylish
Disadvantages: case not included
...the Olympus case that is made to fit, which was quite expensive, but has space for extra memory cards, a nice little touch.
It generally looks nice, its a silver camera with a gold panel on the lens barrier, which looks quite stylish. I've only had the camera for about a year, but so far it's all working well and I've had no problems. Would definately recommend it!...

olympus, .... king of cameras!
Review of Olympus µ[MJU:] 700 Digital by
vickymoo
Advantages: slimline, compact, quality!
Disadvantages: no viewfinder....thats about it!
...I actually bought the blue coloured mju 700, purely for the fact that i just really love the colour. you'll find that the mju 700 is available in silver, orange and blue. from what i've found searching around for the best deal, the blue is the most expensive, then the orange, then the silver (which is the cheaper of all three colours: available for about £163.89). even so, i bought this camera for £173.90 (from amazon.co.uk), and am absolutely delighted with it. i only ever buy olympus digital cameras (as i would a manual camera). it's a brand that i've used for many years that i trust and have had continuous quality results from.
when i opened the box, i couldn't believe how light and slimline this camera was.....honestly, its sooooo diddy! everything was neatly concealed in this small blue olympus box (see list below of contents) and i...

Inexpensive digital camera for Travelling
Review of Olympus µ[MJU:] 300 Digital by
james68
Advantages: Showerproof. Great pictures. Fast transfer. Works OK with my 512Mb XD card. Reasonably quick autofocus and flash
Disadvantages: Build quality concerns: Plastic switches. Weak zoom switch. Silver colour soon wears -off all switches. Sliding front has switch which often fails due to dirt/dust. Noticably slower startup when using a large (512Mb) card. Short videos. No sound.
...the idiot-proof (useful for me) graphical menu system which is accessed via the 4 cursor buttons and two function keys on the back. Simple, but here lies a problem. With all the use that these buttons receive I have found the metallic silver colour wears off them within 6 months of heavy use to reveal drab, grey plastic underneath. Additionally, the cameras model name written along the top of the body gradually wore away within 6 months.
Further build quality concerns extend to the zoom rocker switch also losing its silver colour. This button cracked straight down the middle during normal use travelling around New Zealand. Fortunately the excellent local Olympus service centre in Christchurch replaced the entire camera's back in a jiffy. Metal bodied camera
. plastic buttons. Olympus take note.
This camera takes both Fuji or Olympus XD...

High spec, low performance.
Review of Olympus µ[MJU:] 1010 by
thebigc1690
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...As most members on here will by now know, I am a professional photographer and some may well also be aware of the fact that I do a lot of camera testing. I have been testing some point and shoot digital cameras for the last week to find out just how good they really are and will now spend the next few days reviewing them for you guys starting with the Olympus MJU 1010.
This Olympus camera comes in either silver or blue with a pink one to be added soon I believe, It looks good and feels good (if a bit light) in the hand but the actual using of the camera is very fiddly due to the small buttons and the dial being very small. The actual pictures produced by the camera varied dramatically depending on the settings used.
With a large 10.1 megapixels at your fingertips you would expect to be getting very clear and colourful pictures and you...

Olympus CAMEDIA C 350Zoom
Review of Olympus CAMEDIA C 350Zoom by
sar80
Advantages: Good picture quality, sleek look.
Disadvantages: Battery lifetime.
...I received this as a Christmas present in 2003. My dad is a keen photographer and recommended Olympus as a good make when I was on the lookout for a digital camera. It was priced at around £180 depending on where you bought it, which was about average for a non-professional digital camera at the time. My mum bought it for me in a larger Boots store (on a triple points day, I think).
Inside the box, other than the camera was:
- Camera strap
- 16 mb xD-Picture card
- 2 alkaline batteries
- USB cable
- Video cable
- Software CD-ROM
- Instruction manuals
The camera itself is silver, with a sliding front that covers the lens, and all the cable connections hidden in covered compartments. All in all I was very pleased with the look of it.
Camera specifications:
- 3.2 megapixels
- F3.1 optical zoom lens
- 3.3x digital zoom...
