A poor offering from Olympus

Advantages: Takes AAA batteries and....er.....er...hmmmm.... takes AAA batteries
Disadvantages: Awful screen, not user friendly, feels cheap and nasty, made out of inferior materials etc. etc.

...I needed a new digital camera and fast and only having the ability to get to Argos (because of the late night opening times) the camera had to be available from Argos. The other criteria I set included a minimum of 12 mega pixels, face detection, a large screen, powered by AAA batteries and costing no more than £100. With the large number of cameras satisfying my criteria I thought I would have no problems in finding something suitable, it?s just a shame the Argos in Norwich is so poor and seems to have very little stock, so my choice was limited. Since my first and second choices were out, I only had the option of three other models and the one I decided upon (without doing any research whatsoever) was the Olympus X-42. I had previously owned an Olympus and I was more than happy with it. I knew the Olympus brand and knew...

Sleek and sexy OLYMPUS

Advantages: Great image Quality, terrific design, very easy to use
Disadvantages: none

...This Olympus FE-5000 with Resolution: 10 Megapixels, Optical Zoom: 5x and LCD: 2.7" with 16 shooting modes is a remarkable piece of equipment. it is sleek and stylish and will fit easily in your pocket. This is one of the cheaper digital cameras from the world famous brand. It has a great lens, which really helps in low light conditions. Its lens can capture light very efficiently. flash is pretty powerful for its size. Overall i would say if you have the budget to get one of these and you don't want to compromise the quality of your pictures, don't hesitate just go for it. Here's something that might interest you: All shutter delay times were about standard. A single photo took 0.32 seconds while five clocked 15.08 seconds. With flash, times were 0.55 seconds for one photo and 16.09 seconds for five. That's pretty good wouldn...

Olympus - the peak of cameras

Advantages: Superb Quality
Disadvantages: Expensive and big compared to the compacts

...not got a lot of examples to show, but will include some. Quite simply, the results are staggering. The Olympus lens produces sharpness that is a world apart from your average point and shoot cameras. Since you can shoot and save in RAW mode ( that is a camera setting, nothing to do with your state of dress or outside temperature ) , you can load your pictures on to your PC and alter just about anything. ! If you were a setting too over-exposed, RAW editing will perfectly adjust that for you. If you think the sky is underexposed but the field was overexposed, you can layer the shots and edit the different sections separately. The possibilities are endless. 5 Costs and Bits xxxxxxxxxxxxx A year ago, a camera of this capability would have cost you £1000 or so. At present, it is available all over the place for around £500. What...

Olympus FE-3010

Advantages: slim, high quality photos
Disadvantages: loads slow, blurs are common

...2 weeks ago i bought the Olympus FE-3010 because of it is very cheap considering advanced features. 1.)Physical Appearance It has 2.7-inch LCD screen Super-slim (0.7-inch thick) metal body compatible with xD Picture Cards and microSD memory cards. The appearance is nice and comes in three colors: pink, black and silver. I own the pink one. the only problem i have with the apperance is the big "fe" written in the lower left corner of the camera. 2.) 12-megapixel resolution: This digital camera gives poster-sized superb quality photos which i personally appreciate. When I transferred the pictures in my computer it is very beautiful you can see all details in the photograph specially when you set the shoot mode to full 12 megapixel resolution and fine shots. 3.) 3x optical zoom: I was hoping for 5x optical zoom but for the price the 3x...

Olympus E-30. Still not up there with the big boys?

Advantages: Fold out LCD screen, Image Stabilization, Zuiko lens quality, Picture quality, Flash options
Disadvantages: Noise in low light, Too many buttons, Badly laid out, Too many gimmicks

...The E-30 is Olympus's own stepping-stone between the so-called "prosumer" models (what an awful word) and the E-3 professional SLR, being loosely comparable with the likes of the Canon EOS 50D, the Nikon D90 and the Sony Alpha A-350. It shares a lot of the E-3's features and has even overtaken the E-3 in terms of resolution, offering 12mp compared with the E-3's 10. Unfortunately - or fortunately, depending on your opinion - some of its features are things that serious photographers don't really want on their cameras and definitely push the E-30 towards the hobby photographers rather than the professionals. The E-30 doesn't share the E-3's weatherproof casing, in fact it is built from a plastic/fibre-glass composite material, which helps to keep the weight down and, surprisingly to me, doesn't make it feel cheap. It does look...

A winner from Olympus

Advantages: All weather build, great results
Disadvantages: No remote

...I am planning to do some touring on my cycle and required a camera that not only was lightweight and weather-proof but also took reasonable quality photos. I used to take a Leica M4-P with a Summilux 35mm lens on such journeys It requires no batteries and has been submerged in puddles more than once and survived. However the cost of roll film is now a becoming drawback. Digital photography has the main advantage of disposible imagery but the disadvantages of being subject to water damage and always requiring battery power (when camping the opportunities for recharging are probably zero) I already have an Olympus E-510 with a 14-54mm zoom lens that produces good quality pics, but is not puddle-proof. It does use XD cards though so I already had some to use in the 1030SW - No card is supplied with the 1030SW (These Xd type M...

Olympus FE-170

Advantages: High picture qaulity. lots of features
Disadvantages: Small internal storage

...much like every Olympus I think) at two settings. High is 320x240 and 15FPS and low is 160 x 120, 15fps. This offers a good frame rate for this camera. It has smooth clear(ish) playback as long as you do not oversize the playback size. The pictures have had no glare on them that I have taken. There is an auto flash feature which makes it easy for just an average camera user. It chooses the right lighting setting making the best picture for you. I did not like having to play around with light setting and exposure time on my old fashioned camera- hooray for digital :). A cool feature of this camera is its scene modes. You can take a picture which makes it appear you are at the scene. Scenes include fireworks and self portraits. They look very good and are pretty interesting to show to relatives. The screen for this is a good size. It...
