Olympus VN240
Advantages: Practical and Efficient
Disadvantages: Slightly tedious uploading
...I am currently studying in my first year at university, but have experienced some problems with attending lectures and figured it would be a sensible idea to ensure that i have a record of the lectures i have missed. Unfortunitly my university has not started to release podcasts of lectures yet so that was not an option. Anyhow i purchased the VN340 and lent it to a friend in advance of when i knew i had a lecture. Of course i have not actually had much practical use personally, I just have an account of the quality of the recording.
The only drawback i have experienced is that the uploading and software required when uploading the files onto my computer was a bit time consuming, but not to an extent where it put me off purchasing the product.
Firstly the account my friend gave of his experience in using it was highly possitive; he...

A handy, nifty, wee machine! *****
Advantages: Pretty much everything about this machine is an advantage!
Disadvantages: None - apart form that it doesnt come with a protective carry case!
...We bought the Olympus 'digital voice recorder' (vn-240 pc) approximately 2 months ago when Jeff was unwell and unable to come to a meeting which we had been looking forward to for some time. Occasionally some of our frineds who record some of the meetings and it is often useful to have a recording to refer back to to complete notes, clarify particular points, and draw quotes, as well as letting someone who missed the meeting hear what was said.
When we went out to look round the shops we had three criteria in mind:
1. A recorder that could record for at least 1 and 1/2 hrs.
2. A recorder that we didnt have to change over tapes in as this would mean missing part of what was said and would be distarcting too.
3. A recorder that was realitively speaking, inexpensive.
At first glance there wasnt a huge selection in the usual...

A poor offering from Olympus
Advantages: Takes AAA batteries and....er.....er...hmmmm.... takes AAA batteries
Disadvantages: Awful screen, not user friendly, feels cheap and nasty, made out of inferior materials etc. etc.
...I needed a new digital camera and fast and only having the ability to get to Argos (because of the late night opening times) the camera had to be available from Argos. The other criteria I set included a minimum of 12 mega pixels, face detection, a large screen, powered by AAA batteries and costing no more than £100. With the large number of cameras satisfying my criteria I thought I would have no problems in finding something suitable, it?s just a shame the Argos in Norwich is so poor and seems to have very little stock, so my choice was limited.
Since my first and second choices were out, I only had the option of three other models and the one I decided upon (without doing any research whatsoever) was the Olympus X-42. I had previously owned an Olympus and I was more than happy with it. I knew the Olympus brand and knew...

Sleek and sexy OLYMPUS
Advantages: Great image Quality, terrific design, very easy to use
Disadvantages: none
...This Olympus FE-5000 with Resolution: 10 Megapixels, Optical Zoom: 5x and LCD: 2.7" with 16 shooting modes is a remarkable piece of equipment. it is sleek and stylish and will fit easily in your pocket. This is one of the cheaper digital cameras from the world famous brand. It has a great lens, which really helps in low light conditions. Its lens can capture light very efficiently. flash is pretty powerful for its size.
Overall i would say if you have the budget to get one of these and you don't want to compromise the quality of your pictures, don't hesitate just go for it.
Here's something that might interest you:
All shutter delay times were about standard. A single photo took 0.32 seconds while five clocked 15.08 seconds. With flash, times were 0.55 seconds for one photo and 16.09 seconds for five.
That's pretty good wouldn...

Olympus FE-370
Advantages: image quality
Disadvantages: none
...with a lot of other modes, including a spectacular fashion, sports, portrait, sunset, behind glass, cuisine, documents, and Smile Shot. There is no manual control in this fully automatic. If you want to take pictures at night, choose the speed is automatically set up to 4 seconds.
Like some other models from Olympus, the FE-370 camera has two macro mode. Macro function, which is not large, with close to 20 cm and 60 cm wide, at the corner of a telephoto lens. Super macro mode is much better with a concentration of up to 3 cm, but the lenses are locked in wide in this mode.
Camera Olympus FE-370, the average movie mode with VGA resolution of 640 x 480 size of video clips with sound at 30 fps. To extend the recording time, you have the possibility to reduce the level of the film frames to 15 FPS with about half of QVGA-resolution 320 x 240...

Olympus - the peak of cameras
Advantages: Superb Quality
Disadvantages: Expensive and big compared to the compacts
...1 A Tough Market
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Olympus has a long history of brilliant cameras and lenses.
It finds itself in a tough world as far as digital SLR cameras are concerned.
The other big names - Nikon and Canon, have a huge section of the market already. Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and Pentax are eager rivals, but Olympus is determined not to get left behind.
Their E series, and especially their latest models, are crossing new frontiers and making ground against the other firms.
2 General Features
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Let's take a minute to note what the E-400 has in common with the other SLRs that you might contemplate.!
The benefit of a Single Lens Reflex camera has always been that what you see through the viewfinder, is what you are going to get in your photograph.
A mirror reflects what is coming through the lens...

Olympus FE-3010
Advantages: slim, high quality photos
Disadvantages: loads slow, blurs are common
...2 weeks ago i bought the Olympus FE-3010 because of it is very cheap considering advanced features.
1.)Physical Appearance
It has 2.7-inch LCD screen Super-slim (0.7-inch thick) metal body compatible with xD Picture Cards and microSD memory cards. The appearance is nice and comes in three colors: pink, black and silver. I own the pink one. the only problem i have with the apperance is the big "fe" written in the lower left corner of the camera.
2.) 12-megapixel resolution:
This digital camera gives poster-sized superb quality photos which i personally appreciate. When I transferred the pictures in my computer it is very beautiful you can see all details in the photograph specially when you set the shoot mode to full 12 megapixel resolution and fine shots.
3.) 3x optical zoom:
I was hoping for 5x optical zoom but for the price the 3x...

OLYMPUS VN-3100
Advantages: Record upto 36 hours, digital sound quality, compact device with mic
Disadvantages: Microphone not as effective as I thought
...The Olympus VN-3100 is known as a Dictation Machine, but I like to simply call it a portable voice recorder. In size it is not very big, thus being portable. It measures in at a length of 10 cm, a width of 3.5 cm and an overall depth of 1.7 cm. The top end of the the device has a depth of 1.3 cm and the bottom end which contains the batteries has a depth of 1.7 cm.
The device is made in China, like many things are nowadays. The Olympus VN-3100 does not have a simple on/off button, but instead has a HOLD button on the top left hand side. To turn on the device you simply hold the HOLD button and pull it in a downwards direction. This in turn will turn on the device ready to be used. To turn it off push the HOLD button in an upwards direction.
On the left-hand side there is also an area into which a USB cable is inserted in order to...

Olympus E-30. Still not up there with the big boys?
Advantages: Fold out LCD screen, Image Stabilization, Zuiko lens quality, Picture quality, Flash options
Disadvantages: Noise in low light, Too many buttons, Badly laid out, Too many gimmicks
...The E-30 is Olympus's own stepping-stone between the so-called "prosumer" models (what an awful word) and the E-3 professional SLR, being loosely comparable with the likes of the Canon EOS 50D, the Nikon D90 and the Sony Alpha A-350. It shares a lot of the E-3's features and has even overtaken the E-3 in terms of resolution, offering 12mp compared with the E-3's 10.
Unfortunately - or fortunately, depending on your opinion - some of its features are things that serious photographers don't really want on their cameras and definitely push the E-30 towards the hobby photographers rather than the professionals.
The E-30 doesn't share the E-3's weatherproof casing, in fact it is built from a plastic/fibre-glass composite material, which helps to keep the weight down and, surprisingly to me, doesn't make it feel cheap.
It does look...
