At a glance the Olympus is not something i find particularly aesthetically pleasing, but this is an unimportant aspect of what is overall an excellent product. The colour is decribed as "champagne gold" but don't let the elegance fool you- the internal memory of the device stores up to 138 hours of recording time (in WMA file format), or 512MB. Some would argue that for a device which can be used as an MP3 player, this does not match up to the competition. But the Olympus is a voice recorder first and foremost and in this field it certainly scores points for memory. A very disappointing product from Olympus

Advantages: very neat, easy to connect to a PC, runs for ages on a single AAA battery
Disadvantages: feels and looks cheap/nasty, fiddly controls, sound quality not the best

So WS-331M could prove very handy for students and others who frequently have to work on different machines in different locations. In fact, the ability to hold many various files is perhaps WS-331M's greatest asset. If you don't need as much storage then WS-311M (512Mb) or WS-321M (1Gb) offer the same features at lesser cost. The other good thing is that, unlike earlier power-hungry dictation machines (not just Olympus ones), which required two AA batteries, all these latest models run for ages on a single AAA, either alkaline or NiMh rechargeable. A poor offering from Olympus

Advantages: Takes AAA batteries and....er.....er...hmmmm.... takes AAA batteries

Attention All University Students

Advantages: It's the best purchase i have made thus far
Disadvantages: can be a little expensive if you do not shop around properly

And this GEM has not let me down. My girlfriend (who is also a law student) and my friends from university have all sold their dictaphones to purchase the ws-331m. I thought i'd write this review to save you the enormous headache of researching what dictaphone to buy. I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed with this product. For the case and player i paid about $190 US (delivery included to Australia). Look out for sales on ebay, where you can find it even cheaper than this. Make sure to buy brand new and not a refurbished one. Good luck with your purchase, and i hope this helps!...
