...Omar Khan's is a fairly traditional Indian restaurant situated in the centre of Bradford. We were in town for a weekend of curry and had eaten lunch that day at a very modern establishment so I wanted to go for the more traditional British "curry house" in the evening. I found Omar Khan's listed on the Visit Bradford website and a look at the restaurants own website was encouraging. The restaurant is situated on the south side of the city centre, beside the national Television and Media Museum and the Alhambra Theatre. The restaurant has a small car-park but there are other car-parks nearby and it's a five minute walk to the train and bus stations at Bradford Interchange. Advantages: Just about the nicest chocolate bar out there.
Disadvantages: Send Oldchem a bit strange in the head it would seem

There's real gold on that thar dome

...You cannot miss the Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque in the centre of Brunei's capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. It is a beautiful white building with a wonderful golden real goldleaf dome. I think this is the nicest mosque I have seen. I was told that the architect was British - I'm not sure if this is true, but maybe he somehow made it more visually accessible to a British eye. It was built in 1958, and named after the present Sultan's father. It is reported to have cost US$5 million at that time. It's set in grounds with an artificial lagoon complete with concrete boat. You cannot go on this but you can walk round the grounds. It is acceptible for visitors to go inside at certain times - visiting is closed or limited on Thursdays and Fridays and you'd need to check out other times - you can't go in during prayer times. The Great Gold hunt

Not a Jewel in my Eyes

Advantages: some funny moments, Danny DeVito
Disadvantages: Wooden acting at times, weak story, bad effects

...quite there between her and Michael Douglas who played the role of Jack. The storyline was quite good but so much more could have been made with it. To me is seemed quite rushed and as if they were in a massive rush to finish the film so it could come out still with the success of the first film being around. I think that with a little more time and effort then this film could have been 100 times better. The return of Danny DeVito for me was the best part of the film and he did bring his usual wit and humour to an otherwise dull film. I think he was the strongest and best character in the film and think a bit more of him should have been shown in the film. There were a few good supporting actors in the film, the main one being Omar Sharif who played the evil dictator and he was very good with his role but just a little wooden at times...

"Only two kinds of creatures get fun in the desert."

Advantages: A film in which you can smell, see and feel the desert - perfection.
Disadvantages: Some think it's too long - they are wrong!!

...on King Feisal (played by the wonderful Alec Guiness), but he ends up identifying more with the Arabs than his British countrymen. Whenever I think of this film, I always picture that incredible journey that Lawrence made on Camel from Cairo to King Feisal's camp. I could actually visualise the vast distances they travelled beneath the glaring sun in the dessert. I feel thirsty now, just reminiscing the scene - it was so wonderfully shot. After the death of his guide at the hands of Arab chieftain Sherif Ali, (the beautiful Omar Sharif), Lawrence takes it upon himself to lead the Arabs against the Turks at Aqaba. Should not have been released

Advantages: Coogan
Disadvantages: He doesn't deliver

...it and justice being done. Just as Coogan seems bland and under-developed, his co-conspirators have too little to distinguish them from each other - all perform competently enough but they are not given enough to do. If you've seen the trailer you have witnessed the best bits, the remainer for the most part is padding. Its good to see Omar Sharif in a cameo but £5 seems a lot for this under-done effort....
