Ideally Located For A Reading Pub Crawl
Advantages: Nice and central, cheap price
Disadvantages: The extras are a little bit expensive
...It would seem over the last few months I've spent almost as much time staying in Hotel rooms as I have in my own flat, which can prove rather costly. One of my more recent excursions was to the Novotel in Friar Street in reading. Now being as how I only live in Basingstoke, getting a hotel for the night in Reading might seem a little bit pointless, but as it was my leaving do from work it seemed a cheaper and simpler option than trying to get home. That said, once all the little extra bits and pieces are added on it soon mounts up and what seemed like a good idea at the time, was perhaps a little too close to home to justify.
As I'd decided upon the need to book myself a hotel room I paid a visit to the Novotel website where I managed to secure the room for a reasonable price. I've stayed in Novotel's quite a few times before so knew...

Chickenfeed - a Quick Read!
Advantages: An enjoyable read suitable for everyone!
Disadvantages: That I had initially dismissed 'Quick Reads'
... Minette Walters
Minette Walters is one of my top ten authors, and I had read all of her books aside from her latest ("The Chameleon's Shadow") and one which I'd heard about called "Chickenfeed" but for reasons I will explain hadn't yet got round to reading.
Minette Walters is famous for books such as "The Ice House", "The Sculptress" (which was made into a fantastic TV drama staring Pauline Quirk), "Acid Row", and "Fox Evil". She has written 14 books including Chickenfeed. They are of the crime/psychological thriller genre. Personally I would equate her writing to a slightly more modern version of Ruth Rendell (sorry Ruth, I do enjoy your books too).
I feel that Walter's books would appeal to both men and women, although I am not a man, so I cannot be absolutely sure! I first got into her books through my mum when I...

Chili's Bar and Grill - Oracle Riverside, Reading
Advantages: Delicious Food, Great Service, Available all day
Disadvantages: Couldn't book on Saturday night
...Last Saturday (12th June), some friends and I decided we would go into Reading town centre for a meal, in order to continue with my birthday celebrations. Searching the net, I came across several restaurants all based in and around the Oracle, Reading?s newest shopping centre, and as we would be walking into town, this seemed the ideal location and found restaurants varying from American to Mexican to British Cuisine.
I?m useless at making decisions when it comes to choosing somewhere to eat, as I like to satisfy everyone?s different tastes, so I compared a couple of the menu?s for a few of the restaurants, Old Orleans, Ma Potters Grill and Chili?s. And Chili?s came out on top with the greatest selection.
*Location*
The Chili?s Bar and Grill I visited, is based in the Riverside Unit of the Oracle Shopping Centre, in Reading...

Burn After Reading - laugh after watching
Advantages: Great performances, funny and unpredictable
Disadvantages: A bit indulgent in parts
...Burn After Reading is a Coen brothers' black comedy starring Frances McDormand, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and John Malkovich. Linda (McDormand) and Chad (Pitt) play gym employees that hit upon a money making scheme when they accidentally unearth what they believe to be a tape containing some sort of military intelligence. As Linda begins dating Treasury agent Harry (Clooney) who is also having an affair with Katie (Tilda Swinton) who is married to Osborne (Malkovich) the story becomes more and more complicated as all of these lives intersect in a web of double-crossing, phoney espionage, cosmetic surgery and obscene DIY projects.
This is one of the most original and interesting comedies I have seen in a long time. I went to the cinema thinking I would probably enjoy it - I enjoy Coen brothers' films and love Frances Mc...

By theTime You Read This, I will have forgotten it!
Advantages: A typical Chick Lit novel
Disadvantages: Characters a little weak, plot appeals to limited audience.
...Review of ?By The Time You Read This? a novel by Lola Jaye.
The Book
I am reviewing the paperback version of this novel, the first from the pen of Lola Jaye.
The book is published by Harper Collins under ISBN number 0007266553 . The book contains 321 pages and bears the jacket price of £6.99.
The cover is eye catching and modern, a very feminine floral design which fits well with the contemporary fiction/chick lit genre of the novel.
The Plot
Twelve year old Lois Bates is devastated when her mother decides to re-marry. Lois and her mother have been alone since Lois was five years old, following the untimely death of Lois' father, Kevin.
Kevin Bates passed away from an illness, which the book never actual touches upon at the age of 30.
Lois cannot understand that her mother wishes to marry again and feels that her...

It's good to read
Advantages: A child who can read can always do something on that quiet day and when they are not well
Disadvantages: None
...It is a well understood fact that a child who can read well will do better in their education than one who does not read. Childrens literacy is very important.
As a parent it is quite important to do your best for your child. To encourage your child to read is very important. It is not always easy. Children show interest in books at different ages or not at all.
My oldest child is a girl aged 11. She always has her head in a book. She loves to read and loves to write and I believe she will go far. For her reading has always been enjoyable and so she has had nothing to worry about. However she took some persuading to look at information books rather than just fiction!
My next child is a 9 year old boy. When my son was younger and given little story books to read he was not interested. My son prefered to be doing something...

A girls guide to Reading
Advantages: good atmosphere, good music
Disadvantages: weather can sometimes be bad
...I went to the Reading festival last year, and despite being slightly apprehensive and slightly in pain (i had my appendix out the week before), i had a great time. I went with a fairly big group of friends and we all camped together for the 3 days. Unfortunatly, due to my lack of a) money and b) organisational skills, im not going this year, but have fun to those of you who will.
What i like most about Reading is the fact you get to see so many bands in such a short time. What i hate most about Reading is the grass after its been raining constantly for 5 hours or so.
The bands playing last year were outstanding. i went to see bands that i didnt particually like at the time (i.e Oasis) and even found myself enjoying them.
The atmosphere is good at Reading, everyone seems to have a good time. The highlights last year for me were...

Read It Swap It: Love It!
Advantages: Huge library of books, lots of users, easy to use
Disadvantages: I suppose some dishonest people but they are rare on here
...Now I realise that there are already quite a few reviews on this website, which I am glad about as hopefully it is spreading the word of a superb site. But in the past few weeks, there have been some changes to the Read It Swap It site, so I hope to either introduce to the site if you haven't heard or visited it before, and if you have, then update you on the new features which have been put in place, making it even better than before!
The Read It Swap It site does exactly what it says. When you have finished reading a book, or for whatever reason you have a book at home you would like to get rid of, then you list it on this site, and swap it for a book belonging to another member that you actually want to read. All you have to pay is the postage to send your book to your swapping partner, which ranges from about 80 pence for a small...

Yay for Reading
Advantages: atmosphere, bands, fun, great value!
Disadvantages: toilets = smelly!
...Ever since the first time i ever heard about Reading Festival i have begged and pleaded with my parents to let me go. They were quite willing but the only condition was that i pay for the ticket and this year was the only year so far that i have actually managed to raise the whole £85!!
So i had my ticket, the next step was to bully my parents into letting me camp there for the weekend. That was where they put their foot down and after seeing the actual campsites there, im so glad they did!!!
The actual festival was amazing, they had such a great line up with bands on the main stage such as Green Day, Travis, MSP, OPM, Run DMC, Marilyn Manson, Eminem and a whole truckload more!! Although the main stage was great and the performances were great to see, i preferred watching Reel Big Fish on the Concrete Jungle stage as it is smaller...

Reading Spa Day
Advantages: Excellent Central Location, Superb Meal
Disadvantages: Limited private parking
...We used this hotel a week ago for a friend's Hen Day. She booked a Spa package through a third party provider, and it was this hotel that they sent us to. As the Renaissance is a small chain owned by Marriott Hotels, we were looking forward to a good night away.
A friend and I drove to Reading which neither of us are greatly familiar with. We took the directions from the hotel website, and followed these to reach the hotel, and unfortunately found them to be pretty poor. We got lost with the directions as we found that they missed out a couple of junctions - and we were proved not to be the problem as the other group also got lost on their way to the hotel.
Upon arrival, we headed for the hotel car park, only to be put off by a notice on the car park sign instructing us that we should report to reception first. We turned...
