Review of One Fine Day (DVD)

One of those books you think about for days afterwards...

Advantages: Such a true to life read, it will make you laugh and cry. A brilliant read.
Disadvantages: It had to end!

...Dexter and Emma meet on July 15th 1988 on the night of their graduation, young and wondering what the future holds... well, Emma is at least. Dexter would like to stay exactly the way he is now. It's within the first few pages of this book that you are drawn into these 2 characters who seem just like any other 2 students about to go into the big wide world. Dexter is wanting to slip away and make excuses however, despite himself, he doesn't and the next thing you notice is it's a new chapter and the date at the top proclaims it's a whole year later on the same day and we're reading about the same 2 characters and just what has happened since that one day in 1988. The book is set over 20 years and goes by too quickly, just like real life, and everything feels like it's been left too late. Emma and Dexter are so life like and jump right...

If One Day Did Remain...

Advantages: A whole range of diverse and brilliant rock albums
Disadvantages: Some of the tracks are perhaps a tad too similar

...It's fair to say that I like to listen to some very unusual bands that are certainly not mainstream in their country of origin, let alone here in the UK. It's also fair to say that Alter Bridge are not mainstream which, by my account, is a great shame. Why, I hear you cry? Well, it's simple; the talented four piece's first album, 'One Day Remains', is spectacular, ranging from gentle rock ballads to hardcore head banging tracks and songs of hope even in the darkest hour of a persons day. One of the most amazing things about the band is lead singer Myles Kennedy (formerly of Mayfield Fours) voice; powerful yet extremely tender, his singing helps you to focus on the place where main song writer, guitarist Mark Tremonti, was when creating lyrics for each track. Advantages: An easy way to increase fruit intake
Disadvantages: Not my flavour

...I came across these by accident in Morrisons the other day and they were on offer - pack of 4 for £1. All supermarkets seem to have these on an introductory offer at the moment the normal retail price being £2.28. ~Flavours~ As far as I can remember they only had one choice of flavours available that day. After further research I now know they are available in 5 different flavours although each pack contains 4 yogurts of the same flavour. The flavour I bought was Strawberry, Raspberry & Apple. The others available are: Blackcurrant & Apple - Banana & Strawberry - Passionfruit, Orange & Apricot - Raspberry & Peach. Me Write Pretty One Day?

Advantages: Interesting, unusual style and content
Disadvantages: A one-off type of book, when really you could do with a series of 2 or 3 to enjoy.

...It?s funny, isn?t it, how you can put a famous name behind a piece of artwork, or a new book, and it automatically becomes something worth seeing or reading, even though had it been produced by a unknown person, it might have been dubbed not worth a second glance (or, in other words cr*p). This book isn?t bad though, in fact it?s very good. It?s just the style that made me think of this point though ? when I was at school I would have been admonished (in the days before I knew that 3 syllable words existed) for flitting between 1st and 3rd person, and from past to present to future tenses, all within one story. Sedaris, though, gets away with this all in the name of ?art? and to be honest, the result isn?t as horrifying as it could be. I saw this book in the British Bookshop on Vienna?s Mariahilfe Strasse when I was living over there...

Advantages: fun romantic comedy, George Clooney

...Having had a lovely relaxing day without husband or children around (much as I love them all!), I thought I would treat myself by putting my feet up and watching a nice romantic comedy on DVD. I've got a few on my 'to watch' pile but settled on One Fine Day starring two of my favourites - George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer. It was a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. The film was made quite a while ago in 1996 and is about two single parents whose lives cross one day. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Melanie Parker whose son Sammy goes to school with Maggie. Maggie's mum has just got married so she is having to spend the week with her dad Jack Taylor (George Clooney). Muller's One a Day at 60p a day!

Advantages: Great taste, more filling than the typical yoghurt
Disadvantages: Price & value for money

...the powers that be! However, the dairy product gods at Muller have a research budget of millions which means they must know when there's a gap in the market that needs filling. Hence the launch of the Muller One a Day range, consisting of yoghurt-based smoothies, and the product I'm reviewing today, Muller One a Day Yoghurt. ...Mitch Albom?s books always sound so enticing and from the moment I read the blurb on the back cover I just know I have to purchase it. The last Albom book I read The Five People You Meet In Heaven was exactly like this but left me feeling a little disappointed after I had read it and unfortunately ?For One More Day? also left me feeling the same. The book?s blurb draws you into a world you think you are going to left and entices you to read a book you think you?ll never want to put down but for me this just wasn?t how my reading of the book left me feeling. The blurb?s short snappy sentences and intriguing plotline premise seem in my opinion to be written much better than the rest of the book actually is and although the story itself isn?t car-crash material it isn?t exactly price-winning either in my opinion. 'For One More Day' - brilliantly written.

Advantages: Makes you think and is moving.
Disadvantages: It is too short.

...I don't think many people have read this book, the only reason I picked it up while out was because I recognised the style of the cover as the same as Mitch Albom's other books, which I have read and thought this one would be as good and it was. This book is very much the type of book I like, it is different, quirky and to do with death. 'For One More Day' is about a man, Charles 'Chick' Benetto, whose live is not all that good at the moment. He has had a troubled life, his Dad leaving when he was young, his mother being treated differently after her divorce, a not very successful career as a baseball player, he was a drunk, his wife left him and his only daughter disowned him.
