One For All
Advantages: one for all, combing different remotes
Disadvantages: doesn't always transfer everything you want
...This stylish yet practical remote is simple and easy to use. Its slick, black, polished layout gives it an undeniable appeal. It is essentially just a remote, however it can offer so many different functions, that it is a must for anyone with a plethora of digital equipment such as; Televisions, VCR's. DVD's, Satellite boxes, and even Amplifiers.
From my experience it saves you a lot of hassle in finding all the different remotes for each appliance and is very simplistic to use, and set up, with a set code in the instruction manual for every different imaginable piece of electronic kit, and their retrospective makes. This is what makes the One For All unique as it really is for absolutely everything. The set up is again not anywhere near as hard as what you would think. All you need is the remote itself and then easily work through...

Universal remote that you need
Advantages: Simple to use, great interface, simple to program
Disadvantages: None
...We have DVD player, receiver, two sat boxes (Sky + Free to air European channels), TV. It was not a fun holding 5 remotes trying to find a right button. The remote you would need would always be hidden and missing somewhere.
We bought Logitech Harmony 525 2 years ago. I knew it would work for me as I am a gadget man. I was slightly apprehensive about my wife and worried about my in-laws (when they come to visit us). I thought it might be too techie thing for them.
It turned out as a very simple to use. I have setup 4 activities - Sat1, Sat2, DVD and CD. You program it on Logitech site using web interface and then sync your remote via USB cable. When you click say SAT1 button all necessary devices would turn on (TV, receiver (I listen TV sound over speakers), SAT box). When you press off button all devices are switched off.
You...

The best universal remote control that I've tried
Advantages: Completes complex source switching with a single keystroke
Disadvantages: Not much
...to you can assign any function to any key in any mode and you can fine tune the operation right down to the time delays between commands on individual devices. I have 9 activities programmed for 8 components but the device can control up to 15 devices. The final operation is sending the settings to the R/C via a USB cable.
All the standard buttons for controlling AV devices can be found together with some mode selection buttons and also 4 soft keys that have programmable LCD labels (there are scroll keys so more than 4 soft keys can be set up if needed). Right at the top are the Activity and Device keys. Pressing one of these will present you with either the list of devices or activities on the soft keys. If you select a device then the Harmony R/C will emulate the original equipment's R/C. Selecting an activity will turn...

Wii Remote Controller
Advantages: Innovation, Responsiveness
Disadvantages: Price, Ease Of Use
...I purchased the Nintendo Wii after weeks of searching the internet for a shop that hadnt sold out and once i found one available i bought it immediately. The package came with Wii sports and a remote controller and i have to say that i was quite impressed. The controllers work well with the console and in particular with wii sports. The biggest issue that i have with the remote is the battery issue. Whilst the batteries do last a long time when installed, to keep replacing them costs a fortune. I also have had this problem with my xbox 360 wireless controllers and would recommend anybody who was buying the controllers to also consider a quick charge kit to accompany it.
The unit is very responsive and works very well, this depends on where you put the sensor that is supplied with the wii so make sure that you read the manual carefully...

The Kameleon Remote My Favourite Pet
Advantages: Looks, Upgradable, functionality
Disadvantages: cost, battery life
...In today’s age of separate CD, DVD, VHS, TV, PVR and surround sound units its no wonder our living rooms are becoming littered with all kind of different remotes. I found it so annoying to have all these remotes strewn around the house, often needing to use three remotes just to watch a DVD!
So there was a need, a universal remote which could control six devices as good as the original remote.
So what made me spend £50 on a universal remote? These are my reasons:
For a start the remote looks like Robocop’s arm or something out of Star Trek. The animated milky buttons float to the surface of the attractive blue screen. The silver and black back looks very sleek and sexy and feels comfortable in the hand. The remote has a surprisingly sturdy feel to it, you definitely don’t feel scared to drop it (although it...

Replaces most remotes most of the time
Advantages: One remote on your lap at night
Disadvantages: Still need original remote controls for advanced features
...Appearance
Nice looking remote & the light up panels look great. The offset 'wave' shape makes the remote lean to one side when placed on a flat surface, but this does help when picking it up! As each device is selected, the buttons change to reflect features available with that device.
Looks & feels good quality.
Features
Manages most functions on most devices - but isn't perfect. I haven't managed to get it to control my Virgin cable box, and though I cna control the basic functions on my LG hard disc/DVD recorder, I do need to resort to the original remote at times.
I have a modern Samsung LCD TV, and this is controlled quite well. One other learning remote I have struggles with the Samsung volume (it only increments one step with each button click), but the one-4-all manges this control fine.
I also have the device managing...

Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote
Advantages: Control many devices using Infrared - easy to setup
Disadvantages: Can't control bluetooth or FM devices
...The Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote is used to control multiple devices in audio and visual systems (ie your tv, video, digital box, music players etc)
Currently we use one to control an AV receiver, digital box and projector. Personally i think this is the best one i've used.
Although initially to set up takes a bit of time
(you have to load a program onto a computer and then add devices to the remote using the provided usb cable),
the time it saves in day to day use and the practicality of one remote makes it a worthwhile task.
If there is not a system listed that you want to control it has a neat feature which allow you to add other 'unknown' remote signals - its so easy - you just tell it you're going to add an 'unknown' and then point the 'unknown' systems remote at the logitech remote and it asks...

one remote for all
Advantages: one remote for all gadgets, not got lots of remotes hanging about
Disadvantages: bulky to hold, expensive
...and press the key you wish to assign the funtion to, e.g if you want to set up the sony commander to control tv volume you would press volume up key on the sony commander and then volume up on the origional remote, once the sony has beeped twice you know this has learn't the signal and the sony commander is ready to be used on your tv.
One of the best things i like about this remote commander is that you can customise it for your own needs. You can customise the display on the screen so that you can remove buttons that you do not need.
On a down side you have to replace batteries within 60 minutes of going or you will have to re-programme all your codes in again.
When i bought this it reatailed for £150, which is quite expensive, but you can no longer buy this model new,so i expect you could get a second hand one for around £70-£100...

I am in complete control
Advantages: Tough, Easy to use, Not overly Priced (if you ever need a new one)
Disadvantages: Mine has tooth marks on
...As Sky Plus has began to be a key part of my life I'm now starting to adore the control just as much as the overall service. Coming in a primarily gray colour with a black back and trim (including most of the buttons), the device is well laid out and simple to navigate.
At the top are the On/Off button, the Sky Button and the TV button (allowing you to control the TV with the remote instead of needing both a TV remote and a Sky remote lying about the place). Below that are the direct menu buttons to the TV guide, Box Office, Services and Interactive, of these the TV guide button will be the one that gets the vast work out, with Box Office getting the occasional use just prior to major boxing contests for myself.
Below that is the navigation buttons and the control/program up downs and select button. They include the mute button...

SRC-2000 Smart Remote Control
Advantages: Controls anything and everything
Disadvantages: Needs to be setup
...OK, I'll admit it, I'm a gadget-freak. A gadget-freak with at least 20 remote controls in the house.Everything I buy seems to have a remote with it. I've tried a five-into-one remote control before, with mixed results, so it took me a while to pluck up the nerve to invest in another remote-control controller. I had the opportunity to play with this model at the Live 2000 show , and found that it had potential to solve my problems. The biggest selling point for me is that it's touch-screen are all fully customisable - both text and button size, and as you can have four screens of button for each device, you don't need to miss off features.
The box is a 'learner', so you point your existing remote at it's base, press the button to assign a command to, then beam it keypress from your normal remote.
It's pretty intuitive, although...
