One Republic - Dreaming out Loud

...Some months ago, I found at YouTube the song "Apologize" by One Republic. I started to play it and I liked very much what I'm listening to, so after the end of the song, I pushed the button "replay" and at the end, I pushed "replay" once again, and again... That's why I would like to share with you a little bit more about the CD "dreaming out Loud" that was released in November 20, 2007. --- Why I like it --- One Republic is great music. Their tunes have perfect harmony, instruments and the lyrics are in the ears to fit. The music is so expressive that you can get even without the lyrics what is it about . Some bands make you stirred up, some peace you down, but what I like in One Republic is that they have a balance in what they play, if they stir up they do it softly, if they share peace they make it in a way that is not...

The fourth republic

Advantages: Nice thought, and a good place in which to think it
Disadvantages: Not much to see, except perhaps on April 1st

...People in Britain tend to think of the three ex-Soviet Baltic republics, if they think of them at all, as a uniform group and to assume they're much of a muchness. I have to admit that before I went to the region I rather shared that assumption. Once there, one learns a bit about their individual histories and ethnicities, and observes their differing national characters. The Estonians are polite and efficient, but perhaps somewhat stolid. The Latvians are brisker, sharper and less forthcoming; compared to Tallinn, Riga has an edgy feel. And the Lithuanians? They are sometimes described as the Italians of the region, though I'm not sure that quite does them - or the Italians - justice. But they do seem more easy-going than their neighbours, and there is an offbeat, unconventional side to their nature. Why else would...

Republic of quality clothing.

Advantages: nice variety of quality clothes and mega fast delivery.
Disadvantages: Some of the clothes are too expensive

...I've been dragged into this shop on various occasions by my daughter but haven't ever wandered in here on my own. The shop is very modern an does actually sell some lovely clothes and shoes. Their dresses are my favourite as they're very modern and fashionable. My daughter has been going mad on these new block dresses (the new ones that are like a black vest top on the top with a colour skirt). She's been looking everywhere like Newlook and Topshop but they're all about £25-£35 because they're really fashionable at the moment. There's No Need to 'Apologize'!

Advantages: Some very good, mature pop songs on One Republic's debut album
Disadvantages: A few corny lyrics and repetitive tracks don't quite make it brilliant

...Although you may not know their name, I'm pretty sure that if you are a regular radio listener than you will have heard the song 'Apologize' over the past couple of months. Featuring legendary rapper and producer, Timbaland, the song in question is by a band called One Republic, an American five piece whose debut album 'Dreaming Out Loud' was released over in the UK on the 10th March 2008. I have to admit that from the get go I wasn't sure whether I really liked 'Apologize' or not; I thought it had a very earthy texture to the overall sound but lyrically, it wasn't as strong as the music. Plus there was the fact that it was a bit too 'poppy' for me; I like my music to have a bit more of an edge to it but I was pretty impressed, considering it was the bands debut single. ...I've had this album on my computer for awhile now, so I thought I'd finally review it. Please take the time to have a read. Who is One Republic? Formed in Colorado, One Republic shot to fame with their song Apologize in 2007 and went onto sell seven million singles of this song, and it became the most legally downloaded song ever. Brilliant device TomTom ONE XL

Advantages: easy to use, nifty features
Disadvantages: annoying voiceover

Cabarete - Dominican Republic (north)

Advantages: nice relaxing holiday, friendly people, great weather.
Disadvantages: hassle by the beach vendors, some shop keepers and time share people

...We have just spent two fabulous weeks in Cabarete on the North coast of Dominican Republic, and I want to tell you all about it. We flew with Thomson and it cost us approx £600 each. Spending money, we probably spent around £400, not including our diving course. First off a bit of geography, DomRep occupies one half of the island of Hispaniola. One of the larger islands in the Caribean. The other half of it being Haiti. It is approximately 8 1/2 hrs away from the UK, but is well worth the time taken to get there. Plato-The Republic

Advantages: Worth reading for anyone interested in Politics or Philosophy
Disadvantages: A little longwinded

...The republic is a unique and slightly unusual book in terms of written presentation. The book is academic in one sense, with Plato presenting his views and opinions on governance to the reader, yet he implies a more typically fictional style to do so. His ideas are presented through a conversation, veering on argument, where his characters talk around particular points. invariably the characters come round to Plato's (though his views are presented via Socrates) viewpoint. In some ways it makes the republic slightly longwinded, however it is easy to read, and not to heavy so I am undecided whether I like his choice of presentation. In terms of content, the republic is a key text for anyone interested in philosophy or politics and looks into the quest for a perfect society with perfect governance. Vive La Republic

Advantages: All those beers

...I had already read about The Republic Bier Halle on the net so, when doing a spot of Christmas shopping in Glasgow, I was thinking less about 'The first Noël' and more about 'Bush Noël' (it's a beer). The Republic opened in October 1999, a welcome change to the usual, ubiquitous, trendy bars in central Glasgow and is going from strength to strength. Recently the owner, Colin Barr (now there's a name to suit a chosen occupation!), opened a new bar in Glasgow's south-side called The Bier Stube. He has plans to open another in Sauchiehall St., and one in Edinburgh (can't come soon enough) with more to follow. The bar can be hard to find but it needn't be.
