Not one for the Top 10 of 2009!

Disadvantages: Not really griiping

...and philosophical fronts, but in essence 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' is a page-turner and a great read. The only consideration when reading this book is that ideally you should set aside plenty of time to read it, as names and places can become confusing if left for any sizeable length of time....

Oh Absolute Zero

Advantages: A couple of scene-stealing turns.
Disadvantages: Pitiful writing, direction and central performances.

One of Irving's best

Advantages: All the usual trademarks of an Irving novel
Disadvantages: If you aren't used to him you may find it a little odd

...wacky and just about wacky enough to get me interested in reading the novel. I have read just about anything that has been written by Irving (apart from 'The Fourth hand' but that is being reserved by my local library - use your libraries more, they are an invaluable source of reading material!). The only book I found disappointing was 'A Son of The Circus'- I just couldn't get into the tale of doctors on the subcontinent, dwarves and murder. Anyway, back to the review. 'A Widow for One Year' opens, as do many books nowadays, with sex. The one thing about Irving is that he doesn't make it passionate and steamy, he always tends to add a comic slant to it, in this case by the use of a lampshade to cover embarrassment. Not much has changed in a million years

Advantages: is this what we were realy like?
Disadvantages: why cant we look this good now?

...I saw this in of all places a shop, which is more at home selling clothes and not DVD's, (Ethel Austin's) they have them on bargain DVD racks for £3.99. As I remembered see-in this film many years ago, I thought at that price I'd buy it for my library. All though the film is titled One million years BC, after watching the recent showing of ' Walking with cavemen' I'm not so sure the portrayal of the human race in this film is correct, but it still made fascinating viewing. The film is based around two completely different human tribes, one a warmongering, meat eating, cave dwelling tribe, of very little intelligence, they survive by hunting and there way of life is basically survival of the fittest, and the strongest being there leader. Whilst the other tribe, is a lot more civilised, much more advanced, living of the land...

Most definitely one of the years best!

Advantages: High-quality story mode packs in a lot of thrilling and unexpected moments
Disadvantages: Campaign mode is much shorter than those of the average shooter.

...when you let these weapons go. So the only really knock against Call of Duty 4 is that its single player campaign is really quite short then an average first person shooter game today but a lot of that is acceptable due to the quality of the campaign which is really over the top. When you add in the multiplayer that just offers a ton of things to do and see and a lot of things to unlock your looking at a very high quality first person shooter that is most definitely one of the years best!
