Open University better than any conventional equivalent
Review of Open University Milton Keynes by
djhendra
Advantages: excellent courses, good support
Disadvantages: expensive
...I have spent the last three years studying for my BSc with the Open University. Having studied for a time at Lancaster University (in my much younger days) I would have to say that the standard of support which I have received from the OU has been far better than anything I ever received from a 'conventional' university.
Admittedly, when you are 'distance-learning', more of the material has to be delivered to you in the form of preprinted course materials. However, I believe the content of the OU courses to be of a far higher standard than that of other universities, and I know that this opinion is shared by many who have studied in both.
It has at times been suggested that the OU is some sort of 'sub-standard' alternative to mainstream university. If anyone still feels that way, I challenge them to undertake a course of study...

T102 - technology is FUN!
Review of Technology by
djhendra
Advantages: Excellent breadth - fascinating summer school
Disadvantages: Can't think of any at all
...T102 is the Open University's foundation level (Level 1) technology course: Living With Technology. It is by far the broadest course I have taken with the Open University - it covers Design, Heat, Electricity, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry and a host of other disciplines. Obviously this means that no one subject is covered in great depth, but it does give you a brilliant 'taster' of each topic and can help you decide which courses might interest you next.
The summer school was superb! Imagine cramming all the lab and field work you would do in a year at a conventional university into one action-packed week! Brilliant! Anyone who doesn't enjoy the T102 summer school needs a checkup from the neckup.
Well done, Open University! A superb course.

Sims go Universal..ity.. yeh....
Review of The Sims 2 University (PC) by
BrotherOfSwine
Advantages: great game, improves original sims 2
Disadvantages: none really
...work. It's best to play around with which ones you prefer.
As well as the new university aspect, this expansion pack also gives you many new items that your sims can use, such as new furniture etc. However the best new items are found in the nightlife and open for business expansion packs, so the best thing about this pack is the university.
This is a good expansion to get if you have the original Sims 2 game, as going to university makes your sims' lives more interesting and so makes it more fun for you to play. However I recommend that you get all the expansion packs if you really like the sims 2, as each one makes the game even better; you can get university, nightlife and open for business...

Leave my opinions
Review of Leicester University by
rosycn1979
Advantages: In a nice city, good campus facilities
Disadvantages: Not all accommodations have Internet broadband services at moment
...I just finished my one year Master course in University of Leicester. I chose University of Leicester as its good research and teaching reputation. It is now ranked in the UK's top twenty universities. It is famous for researching on Engineering, Physics, Medical and Genetics.
I like this university as well as the Leicester city. It locates in the middle of England and easy to travel to London, Birmingham and Nottingham. The university is near city center. I normally spend 20 minutes walk through New Walk to city center. It always makes me feel relaxed The Leicester city is famous for its curry food and special open market. I like go to market on every Saturday to buy some fresh vegetables, fruits. And there is also a big seafood market. I like the fresh fish there. The Victoria Park is nearby the university. You can enjoy playing any...

Why I think this uni is the best
Review of John Moores University, Liverpool by
xanderharris
Advantages: New friends.
Disadvantages: Lots of hard work.
...Ok, well here it goes, I have been at this university for a year now. At first I was apprehensive about starting, u know the whole starting a new school, with new teachers, and having to make new friends. But I found the university staff to be very helpful and friendly, which is quite important, I feel that if the staff are friendly then they are easier to talk to and to open up to. I have many new friends now and all of the are really funny I couldn't have asked for a better group of friends. Now onto the academic part, well the university offers a multitude of different courses so I would imagine that it has a course that will interest almost anyone, and new courses are being revised all the time. Well really that's about all I've got to say, but maybe I am biased about this university. But if u are reading this opinion please keep...

Open Uni v Traditional Uni's
Review of Open University Milton Keynes by
Grimsbygal
Advantages: more flexible, more organised, cheaper
Disadvantages: lack of motivation for some students
...I have just finished a degree at Wolverhampton University where as my fiancé is currently undertaking an Open University degree. The following is based on my opinion after experience with both. For arguments sake I have called the universities, which you need to attend on a regular basis traditional universities, as this is the traditional way of learning.
THE FACTS
Millions of people each year are entering university education. The Open University is Britain’s largest with more than 200,000 studying its courses. Thousands of students leave home each year to go to university.
The rest of this opinion is going to follow a scoring system. I am splitting it into categories and voting, which I think is the best.
STRUCTURE OF DEGREE
At a traditional university you have to start off with Level One modules and gain 360 credits over...

views from an undergraduate
Review of Biological Sciences by
kathryn
Advantages: science, city and fun
Disadvantages: hard work
...I have just completed my second year at Liverpool University studying biology. People should choose carefully before going to university when deciding where to go and what to study. Firstly, I chose Liverpool University because it has a good reputation particular in science, it is one of the true universities. Socially it is in a city so I knew student life would not be dull. I chose biology to follow on from my a level, which could be a good idea to other students and it is a general degree so options are open to what career to choose. I also think people should be more acredited for doing a science degree. From what I have witnessed in recent times a science degree is much more demanding in hours put in, work expected, examinations and knowledge required....

University of Surrey
Review of Surrey University, Guildford by
mematedave
Advantages: Location, atmosphere
Disadvantages: High living costs
...I am a first year management studies student at the University of Surrey and am having a fantastic time. The course is both interesting and challenging. I would reccommend it to any person who possesss a variety of skills and has clear ambitions about what they wish to do in terms of a career.
Me aside, the University is a great place. Surrey is one of the best campus University's in the South East. The campus has everything a student needs including sport facilities, shops, launderette, Union building and of course food outlets of great variety open almost all the time. THe library and computing facilities are also very adequate.
Guildford has claimed to be the most affluent town in the South East and the variety of shops and other retail outlets in the town reflect this. The essential pubs and bars also are plentiful in Guildford...

If no content then no users
Review of inUni.co.uk by
goldenray
Advantages: I cannot see any
Disadvantages: I think this is very new site with very very very little content
...store my personal details and my photographs. That's it. The end of the site.
If I am looking for University mates, then I have to enter my details and my success stories if any. I can also set my login reminder.
I would be able to enter my University or college if it is not listed there. But it opens my Outlook Express. They could have atleast provided a form where by I can post the details.
I don't see any pros unless otherwise it improves tremendously when many members have started posting their details.
It would be better if the ads are smaller and there is more content.
It allows photographs to be loaded but the photosize is limited to 100kb(only 4 photographs are allowed).
Just few minutes, I had browsed through all pages in the site (so only very few pages).
I think the site has been around for more than 2 years, since...

Brilliant atmosphere
Review of East London University by
tas1
Advantages: It has a very friendly atmosphere and provides a variety of courses
Disadvantages: It doesn't have one of the best reputations
...of staff and students.
Facilities are also very good. The libraries house a variety of books on a vast range of subjects and also have IT facilities. Apart from the library, IT facilities are also available in the purpose built IT rooms. Students are allowed to use these when lessons are not going on. Just recently, The Universiy of East London has opened its new campus which is in the Docklands. Many departments, such as IT have now moved over there.
The university of East London has a semester system which is something that most of the newer universities are adopting. This semester system allows more flexibility in your course and also has space for electives.
Life at The University of East London, is not boring. After classes, students either go off to the library to study, use the computer facilities, or just to meet up with friends...
