...A lava lamp is, in principle, very simple. It consists of a lamp, which heats up a glass bulb filled with a waxy solid and a liquid. These cannot mix together and must have very similar densities. As the solid heats up, its density is lowered, so it rises. This cools it down and it then falls to the bottom of the lamp, creating a strangely soothing effect. In practice, making one yourself would involve messing about with expensive and perhaps flammable chemicals, so I wouldn't bother trying. It is much easier just to buy one yourself. ...This is a really great projector, at a very impressive price (£529 on Play) - the cheapest WXGA I've seen! Many DLP projectors suffer from the "rainbow effect" but with this Optoma there is virtually no rainbow effect at all - this is due to the 4x speed colour wheel, which is faster than you would find in many other projectors. Out of the box, the picture is great. I found the yellows were maybe slightly muted but this can be adjusted by the on-screen menus. The actual projector looks very sleek - the black and silver case looks really classy - and it comes with all the inputs you could want, expect SCART, but don't worry - a SCART adapter comes in the box. I LOVE LAMP!

Advantages: Hilarious, quotable script and great performances
Disadvantages: A bit weird and silly for some

The film starts off as a standard 70s pastiche with some nice one-liners, but by the end it's an all-out comedy which rivals any in terms of the jokes-to-laughs ratio - a very important factor. The funniest character is not actually Burgundy, but in fact the scene stealing Steve Carell as Brick, the weather guy. People like him because he's "polite and rarely late", and he comes out with some of the funniest and most random lines, such as "I ate a big red candle", "I love lamp" and "Where'd you get those suits, the toilet store?". Carell is one of my favourite comic actors, and he's without doubt the best thing about this film. The rest of the cast are great too - Will Ferrell is very funny, and really suits this role, surely because he wrote it for himself. He's a whole lot better in this than in...
