Oregon Scientific DS9300 - Get what you pay for

...My Experience… I've had the Oregon Scientific digital camera for around 2 years now, and overall I have been disappointed. However I have a little relief in the fact that I paid very little for it through a TV bidding channel, Bid-up TV, I recall that it was about £100 along with an array of free image editing and gallery software. Ever since I received the camera it has gone down hill consistently. I know others have had good experiences with this camera, so it would appear to be on an individual basis, but do take heed. Also as other owners have reported the camera will often freeze on random occasions. To resolve, remove the batteries and replace them, this usually makes the camera work again. GO DIGITAL for FIFTY quid

...I am a proud owner of two Oregon products, and both of which I am pleased to own. Purchase number one was a projection clock! Now despite it’s rather ‘different’ title, the projection clock is a must have. How many times have you woken in the middle off the night, wanting to check the time? Holding the clock in all different angles trying to catch a little light to reflect on the face of the clock so you can view the time? I always wake up every night, and always want to know what time it is. Mainly to see whether it’s worth going back to sleep! Imagine my delight when I found this product. Now all I do have to do is press a button and the time is displayed in either AM/PM mode on the ceiling in good clear type. The clock retails at around £25 or so, and is an excellent buy! Great little snapper!

Advantages: Relatively inexpensive, easy to use, 3.3MP, lots of features
Disadvantages: No case included with camera, small and fiddly, short battery life

I dabble in Web design and needed a relatively inexpensive camera which could take high quality pics - after months of shopping around I settled on the Oregon DS9300 and am 100% satisfied with this fabulous little camera. Good, but could be better

...One of my main interests is web design, and so I thought that I should get myself a cheap digital camera, since a poor quality picture online is better than no picture at all. I browsed the budget range of cameras for a few weeks, but one day I found the Oregon Scientific DS 8238 reduced to £60, so I felt that it was worth the risk. When I got it home, I was pleasantly surprised. The initial pictures that I took were clear, and it was easy to use. However, when I started trying to take really close up pictures of things, it tells you in the manual that you should push the switch on the side of the camera to focus the camera. However if you are within around 6 inches of the object your pictures are blurry on either setting. This niggle is a great shame, since the rest of the camera is good. A fantastic camera for the price

Advantages: Price, 1.3 Mpix is enough for most people, excellent battery life, ease of use, flash, expandability, size, quality of images
Disadvantages: Quality deteriorates quickly in low light, occasionally you miss not having a playback LCD, long exposure times typical of cheaper cameras

...Oregon Scientific are known by most people for their range of electronic weather stations (as featured in the Innovations catalogue, among other places) and their projection and radio-controlled alarm clocks. However, something else at which they excel is the successful repackaging of electronic components manufactured by other companies. In this case, they're competing with Fuji (model @xia-100) in selling this little sexy box of bits to the public, and to be honest, they've done it very well.
