...What can i say this is an internal had-drive which obviously integrates within a computer system. Nowadays 80GB is not enough for anyone as programs are now increasing in size due to their complexity and what they have to offer. A hard drive is a non-volatile storage device which stores digitally encoded data on rapidly rotating platters with magnetic surfaces. Non-volatile storage is simply the name given to a storage device which can retain stored data even when not powered. With a volatile storage device being one that can not retain saved data e.g. RAM (Random Access Memory). I used to have an 80 GB hard drive in the past on my "OLD" PC, which was about 5 years ago. ...I had absolutely no need for one of these really but thought I would snap it up when a friend offered it to me for £40. As I travel between my mums and my own home a lot it was useful to be able to just unplug this and take everything I need with me and lug it straight into my mum’s pc. Advantages: fair amount of storage space for price

...with 80gb Hard drives being the norm in most entry level pc's the price of the 160gb hdd is dropping. If you are looking for a reliable Hard drive for storage of MP3s, video or even gameing then the 160gb will be up your street. The space on the Drive makes it ideal of an entry level "pvr" system. I am currently using one of these as a secondary drive. I have so far managed to record 8hrs of tv to it at decent quality and still have plenty of space left..... The drive Is sata 150 with 8mb cache and 7200rpm spindle. This enables faster reading and writing to the drive. You will need to have a System Board that supports sata 150 or purchase a sata pci card if you want to run the drive in an older machine. You can buy a convetor which will enable you to plug the drive into a normal 40 pin IDE port. Ther is a warning to this though... Read review

...I used many Hard Drives drives until this one and I'm finally satisfied. As a multitasking user i open many programs at the same time: antivirus, internet, multiple downloads, winamp and even gaming at the same time and often I even game sometimes and this hdd really does a good job. The 500GB (470 Gb actually) are sufficient for storage and comes at a very decent price. The wd are really reliable , I had a small problem but it was my fault, I've insanely overclocked the processor and I the hdd drive partitions didn't appear. I've recovered eventually the data without loss. It works still great. The transfer rates are insane: 80 Mb max at data read and 75 Mb max at data write, about 13 ms access time. The temperatures are pretty hot in summer, I recommend cooler. Stability: 4 full days of massive downloads, in summer is enough for you... Read review

Powered by USB/USB2 - with no requirement for a seperate power adapter, files can be effectively backed up quickly. Accessing files is also easy - a use the drive to store videos and music - it handles them both well. The device is no bigger than a hand and looks great. The neon blue light on the top indicates that the device is active. It is as simple as plug-n-play. There is no requirement to close/shutdown the device when finished - just unplug. Additional file storage space is useful - especially to laptop owners - laptops not generally having huge storage capacities. ...i have 2 of these hdd in my box at the moment and am very happy with them lets go into a little more detail the drive is a 3 1/2" form factor drive which will fit into 99% of pcs the ease of instalation is realy dependant upon the case its going in but in a quality case you could install one of these in less that 2 minuits. the capacity of the drive is aproximatly 80 gb a real gig is 1024 , drive manufactures discovered that making a gig 1000 meg makes a drive bigger . then there is the shrinkage factor when partitioning and formatting etc. so on average the drive will be around 76 gig. the drives are not the quietest in the world but for the price are very good i would recomend these drive to anyone that is either building a new system or just needs more storage space... ...I bought this 80 Gigabyte hard drive two years ago for £70, having filled up my original 8 Gig one with various junk (music!) from the Internet. I have been pretty happy with the performance of this hard drive. It is a fairly large hard drive and meets all of my storage needs. My hard drive has always performed quickly when accessing files on it, even when it is fairly full. It has always been reliable and I haven't had any problems accessing files on it or any bad sectors. This model works very quietly and is barely audible even when it is put under strain. I found this hard drive fairly easy to install as it comes with an installation disk and a very thorough step-by-step guide on how to set it up. The guide describes how to affix your hard drive inside the PC, which cables to plug into it and how to change its settings to slave... Read review

...I was looking online for a new hard drive, to replace my old Maxtor one, when i found some very cheap Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GB drives for sale, and bought 2, for under £20. They were bth fully working, and i fitted them straight away, as altogether it was a storage capacity of 8 times more than my Maxtor hard drive, and the spindle speed was higher as well. I installed Windows XP without any problems at all, onto one of the drives, and used the other as a secondary drive to put my work files on. For a couple of months, i was happy, as I had spotted a bargain and the hard drives were fully workin, until the secondary drive just vanished, and wouldn't boot at all, no power would go to it and I ahd lost all my work files. So i carried on with the one 80GB drive, and installed my 20GB again for extra storage space. And then about... Read review

...I bought this hard drive for use at university as my laptop only has a 30GB hard drive and with all the music and junk ive got, i needed more! This bad boy is great though, it cost me under 80 pounds and comes from a reliable brand, when browsing through possible hard drives, they all looked so boring and dull, something you would hide behind your desk so no one could see it, with this i have it on my desk next to my speakers cos it looks wicked! the black box with the rounded edges looks class, it can be placed verticaly as shown in the picture, or lying down on its side, (small rubber pads are supplied to stop it sliding over your desk). the centre of the green ring is a button which is the on/off. takes seconds to get going, there is nothing to install as it is an extrenal storage device. as well as needing extra space on my laptops... ...that this drive can deliver. It's crucial that your main storage is on a separate SCSI chain from the tape drive. Although SCSI handles device-to-device transfers well, you'll get more bang for your buck if you dedicate a SCSI controller for CD-ROMs, Tape drives, etc. Keep your hard disk storage segregated and you'll be a happy camper. Software compatibility is another issue entirely. Most enterprise backup systems will include a driver for this unit, assuming the software is reasonably new. There are drivers available at Quantum's website if not. Several tape manufacturers OEM this drive, so check the website of the manufacturer stamped on the front of the drive. -Kev-... Read review
