Highly Attractive
Advantages: Visually inventive, great performances and a witty script
Disadvantages: Could be too strong for some
...The Rules of Attraction
I am a great fan of Bret Easton Ellis. In my teens ?American Psycho? was my favourite book and that?s probably why I was so disappointed with Mary Hallan?s film adaptation. Perhaps it?s because I haven?t read ?The Rules of Attraction? that I found Roger Avary?s interpretation of Ellis? work such a visceral delight.
I should start off by saying this is not a film for kids, the faint-hearted or the easily offended (the same can probably be said for my review). So if you?re a Daily Mail kind of a guy I?d just stop reading now cos you ain?t gonna like it.
The pre-credits sequence pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the film and neatly sums up its central elements. It immediately introduces us to Avary?s visual inventiveness and conscious ?film? style. We watch the same series of events three times, from...

Awesome Orlando
Advantages: So much to see and do, lots of things are cheap.
Disadvantages: Not enough time to do it all, some big costs.
...and changed, before resting a while. The next 13 days were going to be busy...
The Attractions.
We crammed so much in to the holiday I felt dead by the end, we had done more than I thought possible in 2 weeks and felt like we had had 3 holidays.
Universal Studios, Citywalk and Islands Of Adventure.
For me the jewel in Orlando's crown (but then again I am a movie maniac). Situated 5 minutes off International Drive the sprawling complex that is Universal Studios is actually 3 complexes in one.
Universal Studios.
The original of the centres offered by Universal, this is the place for all movie lovers. Entering, you will pass the giant Universal globe, making the first must have photo of the holiday, before passing through the gates and into what seemed like Hollywood. On the approach you are greeted by some of the most famous theme...

Orlando on the Cheap
Advantages: You get your photo taken with Mickey
Disadvantages: You get your photo taken with Mickey
...of wonga, provided you don't mind too much where you eat (most places in Kissimee are pretty good).
Another alternative is to visit an 'all-you-can-eat' place where, for a fixed fee, you can go bananas and pig yourself into oblivion. In particular, the 'Ponderosa' chain of restaurants do an all-you-can-eat breakfast for $3.99 and an all-you-can-eat dinner for around twelve bucks, depending upon what maincourse you choose. It is high quality and very good value for money.
The 'Orlando' area, where the theme parks are is not actually in Orlando at all but some fifteen miles south around an area called Kissimmee. The 'action' centres on five main places which you will get to know well during your stay. They are DisneyWorld itself, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, International Drive and Highway 192.
The first three cost money to visit so I...

I-Ride Orlando
Advantages: to many to list here
Disadvantages: you may have to walk a few yards to a bus pick up point
...One of the best deals in Orlando for non drivers, just has to be the I-Ride Tram-Bus ( looks like a tram but is actually a bus )
For under 10 USD you can take unlimited rides all week (7 days) along the whole tourist length of International Drive in Orlando, thats from the Bletz Factory outlet ( Shoppign Mall) at the top of Internationnal Drive to Seaworld at the opposite end ( about 7 miles)
These bus/trams run every 15 mins from 0700 to 2300 7 days a week in both directions and are excellent value for money. the drivers generally are very friendly some are even entertaining. the service is superb,I wish they would extend this tram service to the Theme parks brilliant idea but not very practical ( sadly !)
Nowadays you most definitely don't need to hire a car if you are staying anywhere along International Drive, the Holiday...

Orlando...Where Dreams Come True.
Advantages: Something to see and do for all age groups. Great for shopping
Disadvantages: The flight took nine and a half hours. :(
...holiday in Orlando.
First there was the Walt Disney Resort, which consists of the four main theme parks, The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom. All four parks were well worth a visit, offering something for every age group.
Then you have the Themed Disney water parks, which are Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, and River Country. Highly recommended for a fun filled half day or full day out.
Another great water park is Wet & Wild, which is ideally situated on International Drive.
An absolute must see attraction is Sea World, which includes some great exhibits and and wonderful shows.
You can also take a backstage tour, which gives you a insight into what goes on behind the scenes.
The last Main attraction that we paid a visit to was the Great... Universal Studios :), here you can go behind...

Orlando declining
Advantages: Plenty to do and great theme parks
Disadvantages: Low standards
...My experiences of Orlando have changed my views during the past 20 years. My first visit was in 1987 and I couldn't fault it. However, I have returned several times and each time I notice it declining. The family restaurants that I once enjoyed have become dull and have reached poor quality. To enjoy a decent meal you have to visit the more upmarket restaurants which works out expensive. The atmosphere and appearance seems dull and dirty not at all as I remember on previous visits. My advice is to stay at one of the beach resorts such as St Pete's or Clearwater which remain just as beautiful as ever. I found by staying away from Orlando itself I managed to spread my sightseeing further afield. For instance a trip to Melbourne beach (about an hour's drive from Orlando) made a change too. I would avoid September in future as each...

Sea World Orlando.
Advantages: Interact with animals, great shows
Disadvantages: Cost
...I was a bit apprehensive about visiting Sea World. So many people had said to me about how cruel it is to keep animals in captivity.
Having visited Sea World in Orlando, my mind has been changed. I am convinced that these animals are happy to be there, although I did feel that some of the enclosures were a little small. Sea World rescue animals, and are keen to inform the general public on caring for animals, and our ecosystem. So, here is my opinion on the park.
We visited Sea World just after New Year, so we had the benefit of visiting at the quietest time of the year.
Where is it?
Sea World is easy to find. It is located near downtown Orlando at the intersection of Interstate 4 (I4) and the Bee Line Expressway.
The park opens at 9am, and closing hours depend on the time of year.
Car Parking
Well, on this holiday...

Whoah, I'm going to Orlando
Advantages: Hot and sunny, good family holiday, friendly locals
Disadvantages: Can be TOO hot in summer, need to watch for hidden costs
...-drive. Have a think how much time you'll be spending at the hotel. In Orlando you'll spend most time out at attractions, so you won't really take much advantage of a gym or spa, although it may be useful if it's not too costly. All hotels have at least one pool, for those lazy days in between exhausting yourself in theme parks! Other facilities that are useful are on-site shops. They can be a little pricey - I tend to stock up at the local supermarket or minimart - but are useful for those late night snacks you can't be bothered to drive out for!
Most hotels will have some sort of restaurant. Certainly on International Drive you'll be spoilt for choice locally! Not all hotel restaurants are great - I've had mixed experiences, but they're probably a good thing to look for if you're a non-driving vacationer.
Alternatively, you may choose...

Romance and laughter: Animal Attraction
Advantages: Ashley Judd and a great cast
Disadvantages: Bit slow at times
...Animal Attraction is a hilarious romantic comedy starring the brilliant Ashley Judd and is based on the novel Animal Husbandry written by Laura Zigman.
The star of the film is Jane Goodale (Judd) who is a talent scout on an a US talk show and as such she is slightly obsessed with what makes people (and in particular the male species!) tick. Introduce the character Ray played by Greg Kinnear whom Goodale falls head over heel in love with and when he dumps her to go back to his old girlfriend Jane Goodale assumes an alter ego and write a startlingly frank newspaper column accusing all men of being cheats and showing how all men assume the traits of animal in the dating (and mating game!) The film then charts Jane Goodale's ups and downs as she struggles to come to terms with the fact that she has been dumped but is soon rescued by...

More distraction than attraction
Advantages: Good actors
Disadvantages: Average and unoriginal in all respects
...Audrey Woods and Daniel Rafferty are the two top divorce lawyers in New York. As soon as they meet they hate each other, but circumstances conspire to bring them together and they slowly warm to each other. Whilst brokering a divorce between a philandering pop star and his odious wife they go to Ireland to divvy up the assets. After a night of drunken revelry, they wake to find themselves married. All Audrey wants to do is get an annulment, but Daniel wants to make a go of it. And that?s where the fun really begins.
Director Peter Howitt is responsible for one of my favourite guilty film pleasures of the past few years; ?Sliding Doors?. It was hardly the most original rom-com the world has ever seen, but it?s very enjoyable and so I keep coming back to it. So I was hoping for a similar treat in the shape of the ?Laws of Attraction...
