"Salami smells like dirty socks" says Oscar
Advantages: Entertaining story with great illustrations
Disadvantages: might give kids ideas!
...Oscar by Torbjorn Lundmark and Dana K. Lundmark
ISN 0868962813
Published by Ashton Scholastic
Yet another of my children?s books brought back with us from Australia in 1989 so it is quite an old book. It was actually a birthday present from a pre-school friend of my 27 year old daughter! It has been read to many classes of children in school over the years and my husband read it to our grandchildren when they stayed the night a few weeks ago. All enjoyed the story and appreciated the humour which is expressed in both the story and the illustrations.
The story is about a nice, well behaved little boy called Oscar who hates salami (I question why anyone would force their child to eat salami) and his ingenious ways of avoiding eating the stuff.
The illustrations showing Oscar?s hatred of salami are wonderful and I love the way hid huge...

A Picture by Oscar Wilde
Advantages: Brilliantly horrific and satirical, written with a sense of the beauty words can construct that astounds, this is simply wonderful...
Disadvantages: Age has not stolen it's power to disturb - this is no charming classic...
...Oscar Fingal O' Flahertie Wills Wilde was an author and playwright whose range covered just about every genre in the book, and in life he was both amused and pained that many thought this range suggested superficiality. That is one crime of which Wilde can never be justifiably accused. The content of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', a work which is almost semi-autobiographical, works on a multitude of levels.
In short, this is the story of a man exposed, through literature given to him by one Lord Henry, to the darker side of life, the sins and pleasures of the flesh and the spirit. Throwing himself into these pleasures with vigour and enthusiasm, the once pure-hearted Dorian Gray becomes a black beast. He remains youthful, beautiful and saintly looking, while all the time the titular picture of him grows more and more repellent as...

Foxtrot Oscar - Sam Tyler wouldn't last a week.
Advantages: A lot of humour and great characterisation
Disadvantages: A bit of clumsy writing, gags petering out
...The 1970s, when everyone went to work on orange spacehoppers, and Slade were the coolest band in town. You could leave your front door unlocked as well. I might only have been born in 1979, but that's how it was, right?
In the last couple of years, Life on Mars has reminded us that the decade was really about cops driving through piles of cardboard boxes and wearing brown corduroy. Although the policemen work hard, drink hard and swear like troopers, though, they're always on the side of the angels. Aren't they?
Foxtrot Oscar by Charlie Owen tells the story of a police station in a troubled Manchester suburb (fondly known as 'Horse's Arse') during the long hot summer of 1976. The novel is a sequel to the recent Horse's Arse, and focuses on the exploits of a group of policemen with lurid nicknames like Pizza, Psycho, the Grim...

Advantages: Gorgeous Host, Great Awards Ceremony Awarding Everyone In The Film Industry
Disadvantages: Long
...and The BAFTA?s to name a few, however it all comes down to one night. All the awards ceremonies before this night are rehearsals almost to the biggest night in film history... The Oscars.
What Are The Oscars
Here is a short little explanation of what the Oscars are and why they are such a big thing within the film industry.
The Oscars or Academy Awards are annually presented by the AMPAS (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences), and they award some of the best people in the media world, from the best actress, actor to best cinematography in a film. The first ever Academy Awards was held in May 1929 in the middle of the Great Depression in America and was hosted by Douglas Fairbanks and William C. deMille.
Since then there have been 81 Academy Awards, the latest was at the start of 2009 and was held on February 22nd 2009...

Review of The Oscars 2009: How did you feel about this years winners?

Oscar Wilde's story of the victory of kindness.
Advantages: A story with a moral without being preachy.
Disadvantages: I personally feel the ending is a bit difficult to figure out for young children.
...the tree he is on. And from then the giant undergoes change of heart. The children are let in and the flowers bloom and the birds chirp. But the giant pines for that child who never comes again till it is just the right time for him to.
A heart warming story. Oscar Wilde is one of my favorite classical writers. This one is a real good read for smaller kids. Buy it for them but oh please don't leave them agonizing over the end. Explain it to them....

OSCARS EVERY PERFORMING ARTIST'S DREAM
Advantages: It proved that even low budget movies(like Slumdog)can make it big.
Disadvantages: Focuses on only the main positions of film making other important positions are sidelined.
...to me had to be third on the list which would be topped by Curious Case of Benjamin Button and MILK.But I really was awestruck that it was awarded Best Motion Picture of the Year. The Curious Case had a lot more matter, story and overall structure, the sets were altogether different and a bit better.
So according to me Slumdog was not the best film in comparison to others
In the Best Actor in a Leading Role category Sean Penn undoubtedly was my favorite for his work in the 'MILK'.He is a treat for the eyes when it comes to acting. However Brad Pitt was equally strong but Sean Penn simply was the best.
So according to me Sean Penn received a well deserved award
The moment that made me happy about the OSCARS 2009 was when TITANIC beauty Kate Winslet won the award. She was my favorite however I feared her having tough competition...

Creme de la Merde!
Advantages: This 'designer' cream will turn your bathroom shelf into a shrine.
Disadvantages: Your bank manager will none too pleased.
...' it on the palm of your hand by gently rubbing it until it 'melts', it does eventually become softer and so can then be applied much easily to the face. Apparently this process releases or rather activates the key, magical ingredients as well. To be honest, at this stage I was not all that amused, firstly I don't like to work this hard for a moisturiser, I expect to just bung it out of the tub and slap it on my face without all this heating malarkey. Secondly, my skin just looked absolutely greasy - Creme de la Mer takes a while to be absorbed so prepare to apply it way before you plan to leave the house. Unimpressed, I slung the tub in my discarded beauty products draw until recently...
... a month ago, still wincing at the amount I has paid for a moisturiser that was just collecting dust, I decided to give it a second chance. I admit...

Creme de la mer face cream
Advantages: You see results quickly
Disadvantages: Expensive
...comes with a spatula so you know how much you're using & you dont get bacteria from your hands into the jar.
Results:
Its been a month now & I have to say I have been amazed by what its done.
At first I didn't really notice what it was doing to my skin & I was getting a lot of compliments from people about how good my skin was looking. I hadn't told anyone that I was using this cream as I wanted to know if it really worked. Its given my skin life & gives it a very nice glow. As for my spots - what spots??!!! They've all stopped - I cant believe it. I noticed it took away a lot of the redness from the scars left by spots & now im just waiting for the scars to start diminishing. Which fingers crossed will be soon.
It has also smoothed out some fine lines I could see appearing.

Not the Creme De La Creme
Advantages: It comes in a nice green box
Disadvantages: Didn't live up to the hype
...this would be the elusive cream that would melt away all my bad skin days and leave me waking up each morning with skin so beautiful and flawless I would look like Da Vinci had airbrushed me himself! I am so deluded, easily led and gullible, I know, but I fell for it hook, line and skincare...
The packaging is definately not consistent with the price tag. Ok, the green bag and box it comes in are alright, and the actual pot is unusually heavy but the logo on the pot is so cheap looking, I told my husband it cost £4.99 from the chemist and he believed me! I should have spent £4.99 but on a pot of Nivea because Creme De La Mer is Nivea's more expensive snobby twin.
The actual product itself sat on top of my skin for what felt like an eternity, I was too afraid to put it on just before getting into bed and wasting a fivers worth on my...
