Dreamcast... why on earth did Sega call it that?

Advantages: Cheap, has some excellent games, rare console to own
Disadvantages: No software developer support anymore, obsolete console

Dreamcast Not Sega's Best

Advantages: great console
Disadvantages: not a wide range of games

...This review is about the console, The Sega Dreamcast. I will talk about everything roughly about the Dreamcast, and how useful it is. The Dreamcast is a small console, all white, it has 4 controller sockets. There are quite a few buttons that you can use, there is the switch on and off button, the reset button, and the eject button, which allows you to put your game disc in and out. There are loads of games for this console, but only a fair amount of them are good, like Sonic Adventure, and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, these games are now on the Gamecube also. I own the first Sonic adventure on dreamcast and Gamecube, I only got it for Gamecube because my Dreamcast has no where to be hooked up, so I'm pretty much stuck without it. Advantages: Powerful engine, internet access/online gaming

Advantages: Brilliant Graphics And Internet Capabilities

...Dreamcast is the brand new console out in the UK (Day I Wrote This Review Is 09/08/00) and it has a big reputation to fufill, I just received a dreamcast for my birthday present and I have not been disappointed, I had a special deal where it came with 6 games, and the graphics and quality of this console is amazing, the ability to go onto the internet is incredible, the only problem with this console, which will probably be fixed as time goes on, is the price of the games, a game costs on average £40 to buy. All six games are brilliant and the selection of extra components is great (e.g a fishing rod for sega bass fishing.)...

...Do you want to play all the latest games from the USA and Japan without chipping and invalidating your warranty on your Dreamcast, well heres how. Go out and buy the July edition of DCUK which comes with a demo disc of Action Replay. Insert the CD and select "Start game without codes" then insert the imported disc and it will run. the action replay disc by passes the territory lock. i wonder if the publishers of DCUK realise this because I bet when Sega find out they might be having a word with them. Grab the magazine quick before they pull it off the shelves....

Dreamcast 50 quid Games 5 quid at WH Smith

Advantages: Cheap (but good) console, cheap games !
Disadvantages: Consoles no longer being made, games may be harder to find after the current round of stock dumping

I`ve just picked one up and i`ve been pleasantly surprised by the price of the games - if you happen to have an "outlet village" near you and it has a WH Smith you may well find the games are selling for £5 (yes, FIVE) each, the consoles for £50, and assorted hardware like a steering wheel for £20. It would seem that the stock is being dumped at what it probably below cost price due to Sega stopping production of the console. The prices in Game / Electronic Boutique (essentially the same shop after a buyout last year) aren`t exactly cheap for a lot of the games, it seems like they abandoned updating prices on the Dreamcast games a while ago, I found several discrepancies in the Trafford Centre stores, where second hand items were priced higher than the same item new. ...Maybe this review will fall on deaf ears, but I must get this out. I'm upset, dear Ciao. I'm angry, bitter and confused, although not necessarily in that order. My Dreamcast is dying, it's wallet has been stolen and is lying like some poor sod whose been beaten up and left for dead. Many are to blame, most noticeably Sega, the unforgiving Parent Corporation, like a family who just doesn't need that extra burden. "Maybe it'll sort itself out" they (probably) thought, "maybe we can sit on our arses and see what comes up. The public will take care of it... Yes, yes of course they will! We ARE Sega after all!"
