Our Lady Peace not on fire yet

Advantages: OLP with a new album is always good, Raine's voice, More musical freedom
Disadvantages: Sounds like their missing some of the magic of their really early stuff

...Having been a long time Our Lady Peace fan I was quite surprised when I saw Burn Burn available for download on Amazon, having never actually even known of it's existence until I saw it (shows what a great fan I am) I placed it in my virtual trolley and purchased it without reading anything about it. In fact despite their being samples of each track on the site I decided that Canadians were good enough and I was a big enough fan to just go and get it blind. Our Lady Peace have been around for a little over a decade now, and probably scored their biggest hit with a non-album track (well originally it was non-album) called ?Whatever?, it was better known as Chris Benoit's entrance music when he was in the wwf/wwe before his death. Though what is perhaps lesser know (out side of North America) is that they are an incredibly strong band...

The 'Gravity' Of The Situation Is...

Advantages: There are a couple of good songs and promise for others...
Disadvantages: Just too many bland tracks to be a good album; repetitive and altogether dull

In the future we won't be able to hear music created machines

Advantages: Vocals, Music, Unique sound, Lyrics
Disadvantages: Might be a lil too weird for some

...Our Lady Peace are a band that originally I'd gotten into from their WWF/WWE track ?Whatever? which was done for Chris Benoit in the 1990's. After this thanks to illegal music downloads I'd managed to get a few of their other tracks, ?Not Enough?, ?Somewhere out there? and I can't remember the third track, were enough to get my hooked. Sadly however, despite many attempts to to try and buy their CD's they appeared elusive until whilst on a school trip to Manchester I managed to find an HMV store with ?Happiness is not a Fish That you Can Catch?, so with out a second thought it was purchased there and then. A few years later my mother got me ?Gravity? for Christmas and by then it was obvious the band had changed (for the worse) between the album I had. It was obvious the change had lead from the falsetto of the lead singer Raine Maida...

Dangling worms in the sunset

Advantages: Loads of great rock music
Disadvantages: Just shy of getting 5/5

...As I promised, ooh, ages ago – I’ll be reviewing all the Our Lady Peace albums, although at the rate I’m going at it’s going to take some time! Anyway, rather than go through Our Lady Peace’s background once more I’ll just direct you to my review of their album “Happiness is not a fish” (Yes really!) and charge on into the track by track run down. * The Birdman * Forgoing an intro all together the song just starts straight off with drums, guitar and vocals in what has to be said, is a fairly forgettable style although when it gets going in the chorus everything improves as Our Lady Peace transform themselves into a modern day Led Zeppelin. Somehow the song manages to avoid sounding like it returns to the starting riff and yet does! Dodgy intro but the rest is a foot tapping zep...

Has gravity been a fall from grace for OLP?

Advantages: Fresh, studio sounding, Raine's lyrics
Disadvantages: Sounds too polished, A lack of Raine's "paranoid" vocals

...The first song on this fifth studio album by our lady peace is entitles "All for you" and has the kinda sound associated with moodern Canadian rock (such as Finger 11), the heavy guitar sounds and strong vocals... hang on a minuite there...Our lady peace and "strong vocals", Raine (OLP's lead singer) has an amazing voice, but never would you usually describe it as strong, "Paranoid" and uniquie maybe but not strong. Thats the first thing that hits you about this album, it sounds like OLP whilst at the same time not soundinglike them. Sorry for that little rant, the lyrics although also sounding like OLP again sound different, too much form and too much commeercial appeal perhaps, as this for one seems to have a chorusey part thats very evidentally a chorus. Maybe I'm being harsh on one of my favourite bands because the song isn't bad...

A Spiritual Musical Journey?

Advantages: Some of the band's best tracks, their last really good album
Disadvantages: Some boring songs, I listened to my copy to death! (see review).

...Our Lady Peace, known by many as Canada's answer to the Stereophonics, are a band that have had limited success this side of the pond. It perhaps doesn't help that, up until their fourth studio album 'Spiritual Machines' was released, they revelled in the alternative music genre, with Raine Maida's vocals screeching up the air waves to create a far less melodic sound than some bands pride themselves on. Yet, their gimmick struck a chord with many followers of that field, with their three previous albums 'Naveed', 'Clumsy' and 'Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch' garnering respect amongst its listeners. The world's a Blister...but I'm ok with it!

Advantages: Some stunning lyrics and vocals
Disadvantages: The opening four tracks are all very similar

...As many of you can perhaps tell, music is one of my main passions in life; I simply love finding out about a variety of different artists, both new and old, in hope of broadening my once narrow tastes. Our Lady Peace were another band from across the pond which I discovered by watching WWE programming. Romantic, huh? Anyway, the first track that I'd ever heard of by them was a song called 'Whatever', which you can only purchase via the Live CD and DVD. Being extremely impressed with their angry guitars and drum beats alike, I was also fascinated by their lead singer's lunatic like vocals; they were certainly not anything like you'd hear on the commercial radio stations, which enticed me even more into finding out a little more about them. Gone Fishing Of Course

Advantages: A few great songs
Disadvantages: Quite a few dull ones

...I first stumbled across Canadian rockers, Our Lady Peace, when I went to see the Stereophonics live at the NIA in Birmingham. I have to say they put the rather dull Stereophonics to shame and made me feel that my ticket had been worth buying. Stylistically they can be thrown in the wide style bucket that holds bands like Nirvana, Everclear and the Foo Fighters. They?re not all straight forward grunge-o-rock though, there are hints of intricate Led Zeppelin moments along with a few that nod at Jeff Buckley. However, I?m not the most experienced of Our Lady Peace fans. I?ve got a couple of videos I downloaded, a smattering of mp3?s as well as my memories of them live. Just recently though, while on one of my regular quests for new music to listen to, it occurred to me to check out the band in somewhat more depth. A few days downloading...

Happiness may not be catchable, but is good music?

Advantages: Lyrics, vocals, music, story behind the songs
Disadvantages: None

...Our Lady Peace's "Happiness is not a fish that you can catch" Album is a fantastic album to buy and these are the reasons why, broken down into a song by song review. OLP are an alternative rock band originating from Toronto, and like so few of their contemporary's they sound fresh. A merge of heavy sounding guitars and a voice capable of sounding paranoid but also in control. Not quite mainstream music, but yet also not too far away from it to make it sound outlandish.
