Disadvantages: have to meet with CPO staff who will want to sell you timeshare

...I bought a timeshare here about 20 years ago with my husband and we have been going here on and off in that time with our growing family so we've seen some changes in that time - mostly good, I have to add. One of the most significant changes is the addition of properties to the complex giving flexible accommodation visitors. This means that depending on your profile you will either be allocated the beach front CPO apartments (families with children), Hotel Oura Praia which is a about 10 minutes' walk from the beach (couples) and the newly aquired Hotel Oura which is just a few minutes' walk from the beach and I undersdand is aimed more the young clubbers. There is also 'S' block which is where we own which is just a very small block just outside the main complex and directly behind the beach. It may not appeal to everyone but we...

Albufeira (Portugal) 4 Star Self Catering Hotel

Advantages: Near all amenities. Good central Location.
Disadvantages: You cannot book the sun (pity)

...Flights: The nearest airport is Faro in Portugal. BA flies there as do the main cheapos. Ryan Air flies from Stanstead whilst Easy Jet flies from Gatwick, Luton and Stanstead. The earlier the flight is booked the cheaper the cost. Faro Airport: A smallish airport. Quite quick once landed but not too funny when flying back, as once you're through security, the shops and eating area is quite small. Expect long and slow queues when trying to eat or drink. Taxi's: Are available from the airport but I dont know their cost. If you're with a tour operator they will usually supply transport. If you've booked with the hotel direct, they can arrange an air-conditioned taxi for a fee of about 30 Euro's. Travelling time to Albufeira is about 40 mins. Albufeira: Imagine a road about 1 mile long, with a few roundabouts dotted along...

Mirachoro Praia Hotel

Advantages: Everything it is an excellent hotel
Disadvantages: Coffee at breakfast was awful

...We visited this Hotel in March 2006 and it was just brilliant, the room we had was spacious and very clean, with a lovely balcony. The bed was comfortable, the room had great curtains to block the light from coming into the room in the mornings, and there was no noise of a nighttime either - it is, without doubt, the best weeks sleep I have ever had on a holiday. The breakfast was adequate, nothing amazing, but there was plenty to keep you going. We took the B&B option, so I cannot comment on the evening meals, but there are restaurants and cafes within 100 yards of this hotel, so you will not need to go far to find something. Carvoeiro has many restaurants, giving different options, seafood is fresh and plentiful, but you can also have italian, thai, chinese, indian, plus there are lots of restaurants serving grilled steaks, chicken...

A surpisingly classy hotel in small-town Portugal

Advantages: Very stylish, surprisingly cheap
Disadvantages: Not a lot of reasons for most people to go there

...The last time I stayed in a hotel in small-town Portugal was nearly 20 years ago in the out-of-the-way north-eastern town of Braganca. It was a tiny hotel with a room so small you had to walk over the bed to get to the window and every evening the restaurant would fill up with men in blue overalls, drinking the local hooch, smoking cigarettes out of the corner of their mouths and waiting to see the latest Brazilian soap operas on the TV that was constantly on in the corner of the room. I loved it - the atmosphere, not the men in the overalls! So that was the image I had in my mind when I set off to Santo Tirso with a booking for the Hotel Cidnay. It was going to cost me around Euro70 for the night so I was expecting something pretty basic. I certainly didn't expect a stylish chic hotel that looked like it was straight out of the pages...

Holiday fun at this hotel

Advantages: the food, staff, the pools
Disadvantages: might be a bit too quiet for some person

...rules this hotel out for a few people but not to sound mean or anything like that but it was lovely have no kids around for once on holiday. The hotel is situated in a really quiet location. It does really depend on what kind of person you are on whether you would like it or not. If you're a party person, I do not recommend you stay here as you're too far away from the main cities of Villamoura and Albufeira. If you want a quiet relaxing holiday, it is definitely the place. Vila Alba Apartments, Albufeira, Portugal

Advantages: Fairly quiet area, good location, family friendly, rooms in good condition
Disadvantages: Quality of kitchen facilities could have been better

...I visited the Algarve last summer with a few friends and stayed at Vila Alba apartments during our two-week stay. I really enjoyed my stay here and would not hesitate to return - the apartment became a large aspect of the holiday! The location of the apartments is not in Albufeira itself, but just outside. Although the apartments are simply a 5-10 minute walk from The Strip (where there are many cafes, bars and little shops), it is a fairly quiet area, with little to no disturbance. The apartments are quite detached from one another, so this further lessens the noise levels. The apartments are around a 20 minute walk to the beach. The rooms themselves are of very good quality. The lounge area includea a TV with several channels; some in Portugese and some English. Even the CBeebies channel was available, which is great if you...

Review of Vila Alba Apartments, Albufeira

This is my 1st choice hotel for Albufeira.....

Advantages: Excellent Location, Clean, Good Food
Disadvantages: No fridges in rooms

...This is my third time staying in Albufeira (March 2007). I have previously stayed at the Paraisio and Brisa Sol which are also four star hotels next door to the Vale Gale Cerra Alagoa. Out of all three hotels this is my first choice, followed by the paraisio. The staff in the hotel speak good english and service was very efficient. I was also give an upgrade to my room. I was put on 2nd floor and got moved to the 3rd floor in a newer room. (the hotel are in the process of modernising all the rooms, so I would recommend you try to get one with at least the number 42 at the end i.e. 142,242,342,44) The hotel operate on a key card system as opposed to having to carry keys around. I also lost my key card and the staff did not charge me, nor seem unduly worried. The room itself was large with two twin beds pushed together...

Pretty Praias

...Bom dia! Good day! Learn some Portuguese with me, praia means beach, the plural -s is pronounced sh. I want to tell you about the ones belonging to Ferragudo, a village in the Algarve, the southern region of Portugal, situated opposite Portimão, one of the bigger tourist centres west of Faro (where the international airport is). Our hotel is at the outskirts of Ferragudo (I don?t know if a village can have outskirts) up on the elevated coastline. We walk down through the garden to a big beach ending in front of a high cliff just there. On the first day we climb up some steps hewn into the cliff and follow a path through the scratchy macchia, bushes and low trees, (although Portugal is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the flora is Mediterranean), every now and then we come to a vista point from where we can see the whole coastline...

Alfagar, Albufeira

Advantages: size. it has three pools, two tennis courts, bar, reasurant, shop...
Disadvantages: location its a 20 min walk away from the lively town

...Alfagar apartments Albufeira. We were on the coach from the Airport at Faro for about 1hr before being dropped off at the Alfagar Apartments. When we arrived at about tea time we went to the reception and were greeted by the receptionist who took our passports over night (we were later told by a English man living in Albufeira that due to passport cloning we should have refused to do this.) and he arranged for a member of staff to take us to our room in his people carrier. The room was only a minuet away but there were two ways to go, one was up stairs but with our cases that wasn't practical and the other was around the pool but it was the busiest time of the day when we arrived so the staff took us in there car the long way round which I thought was very nice of them. A far cry from the 4 and 5 star hotels I stay in when on business. Remember the latter … business! When I am paying my own way, it's usually considerably less favourable sleeping establishments involving hard floors, bugs, and occasional rocks! For those of you who don't know me from the site, well, I did set off camping with 7 mates (6 boys and 1 girl) via motorised vehicles, and travelled to a campsite just outside Dortmund in Deutschland for the World Cup. That will need to be the subject of an alternative review if I can find a suitable...
